It would appear this week that the punters are growing in confidence that Arsenal will beat their great rivals Tottenham in the famous North London derby and in fact they are now less than 6/4 with the UK bookie Mr Green (29/20), while Tottenham are now out to 37/20. At the beginning of the week, both teams were nearly equal in the betting so you can imagine how much the punters are pouring on the Gunners.
The draw is also very popular, with the last three meetings between these sides at the Emirates ending as a 1-1 draw. Considering that the Gunners haven’t beaten Spurs in their last 6 League encounters (4 draws, 2 losses) the draw looks like extremely good value at 5/2. Both sides will be desperate to not lose this game, for their fans as well as their League positions.
Arsenal are on an amazing run of 10 home wins in a row in the League, so their confidence will be sky high at the Emirates and the fans will be right behind them all the way. As Petr Cech said: “It’s always a special game, the north London derby,”
“With the atmosphere and the electricity in the crowd, obviously you look forward to this game and you need to make sure you win a game like this, not only because it’s a north London derby, but because it’s a rival that challenges us for a top-four spot. You need to make sure in these types of games that you get all three points.
“You are always aware of that [they are rivals] and as I said, going into Saturday’s game you can feel how much it means to everybody at Arsenal and with the fans the rivalry has always been there.
“It means so much to everybody. There is a lot of passion, a lot of emotion and when you have 60,000 people with these emotions and with this passion it transfers on to the pitch.
“That’s a little bit of extra pressure on players as well and I think it’s the kind of situation where your performance usually rises because it’s that feeling as a kid – you always dreamt of being involved in big games. The atmosphere makes it more special to players as well.”
There is no doubt that Tottenham are in great form with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen at the top of their game, but Arsenal have the prolific Alexandre Lacazette scoring for fun, and with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil providing the backup they should have no trouble getting past the weakened Tottenham defence. If Lacazette starts the game he is definitely worth backing to score the first goal at 17/4.
In my mind Tottenham will be very dangerous opponents, but as Arsenal will have the crowd as their 12th man, my favourite bet must be Arsenal to win and Both teams to score which is a very reasonable 3/1 with Mr Green.
