Arsenal v West Brom preview, line-up and score prediction

West Bromwich Albion make the trip down to North London to take on Arsenal tonight in Premier League matchweek six.

The visitors have lost the last six of their previous trips to the Emirates Stadium, with their last win coming in 2010, and also come into the match without a win in their last three in the league.

Arsenal have plenty to be happy about coming into this game, having seemingly turned a corner after a rocky start to the campaign, and will be keen to continue their dominance over the Baggies at home.

Our side will have to try and gain all three points without Danny Welbeck, who picked up a groin injury last week, while Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Calum Chambers are also ruled out. We should be able to welcome Mesut Ozil back into contention for the match however, but it remains to be seen whether he is ready to play the full 90 minutes.

Predicted XI:

Cech
Mustafi  Koscielny  Monreal
Bellerin   Xhaka   Ramsey   Kolasinac
Walcott/Ozil      Alexis
Lacazette

A win tonight will see us force our way back into seventh position and keep us within six points of the leaders, and I can’t see us failing to do just that. We are not into full swing as of yet, but we are definitely playing with enough confidence to see us through comfortably today.

I expect Alexis to come into the side with a point to prove, and have a feeling he will open the scoring, setting us well on our way to a comfortable win. I’m going with a 3-0 victory, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see us get one or two more.

Should I be more worried of the threat posed by Tony Pulis’ side? Is this the best selection to take on the visitors?

    1. Cannot believe how many has disagreed with you. I thought 1-1 myself, or we scrape a victory with a desperate last min goal, like always seem to do in these type of fixtures.

People seem to have already forgotten that West Brom went toe-to-toe with City the other day, and only just lost 1-2, and West Brom missed some sitters! City have been destroying every team of late, but West Brom held their own. It will be a really tough game tonight.

I just hope we FINALLY see Lacazette, and Sanchez start together, and let them play 90 minutes Wenger!

      1. Should i remind you Stoke went toe to toe with Man U after scrapped a win against us and was. destroyed by Chelsea who was lucky against us. You can not say because they gave a second string man city tough time in their home that they have a chance at Emirate though in football anything can happen.

  1. I agree with the formation above as I think that’s the obvious selection to make except if Ozil is not 100% fit, then we can expect to see Iwobi in his place again…

We should win this one comfortably…..4-0……coyg!!!

  2. I don’t think we should take WBA lightly they are very dangerous at set pieces, and we are hopeless at defending them.I cant remember the last time we scored from a corner so while WBA are great at them we on the other hand are very poor.

  3. Iwobi for Walcott. I am optimistic for the fact that the back 3 of Mustafi, Koscielny & Monreal are yet to conceive a goal this season. If we can be more ruthless and add speed in our attack, we will go places. COYG.

  4. Arsenal can always play the same top X1
in League games because the “B” team
can play in the weak Europa league.
    With this advantage Arsenal should
be top 3 by mid Dec.
Next week Chelsea play City so Arsenal could be
level with Chelsea after next round.
WBA should be a cake walk.
    Should be…

  5. Put Ramsey in the advanced position with Sanchez if Ozil is not available and play with someone else alongside Xhaka.

I can’t believe after 11 years people still think Walcott is a viable option for Arsenal. Only Wenger would let him stay 11 years. Any other manager would have got rid of him and his high wages by now.

    I predict 2-0 to Arsenal.

    1. Playing Ramsey in Ozil’s position sounds interesting to me, but only Elneny is available to play alongside Xhaka and that will be too defensive IMO, especially as we play at home and West brom MAY NOT attack…

Having said that, we all know Ramsey will bomb forward anyway, he will always be in advanced positions and that could work if W/brom sit deep, so no matter where he plays, he will Ramey is Ramsey…

      1. I agree Ramsey forward is much better.

Playing Elneny is perfect (or Jack?) – I don’t mind because my ‘defensive’ it distributes our players over bigger area on pitch (and therefore does so with their players) gives us more room to play through, and we have enough pace to break easily from defence or deeper midfield

  6. I have a feeling we will deliver. Normally we concede late in the game when we have a convincing victory so I wll go with 3-1 or 4-1 for the good guys.

(my prediction is predicated on a sensible starting line-up, so no Kolasinac as CD or no Laca out on the wing and no Giroud as starting striker)

    1. My man Giroud, you know he could be our saviour against West brom, but i hope it does not come to that….*smiles*

  7. Guys, seriously – this will be an extremely tight game. Despite having beaten WBA for the past few season the games have always been difficult and we’ve always been lucky.

0-0 or 1-0 is the most likely outcome.

WBA will sit back and defend well and hit us on the counter and set pieces. Also, its likely that many of the arsenal players will go into the game with their heads ‘having already won the game’ or thinking it will be easy. Another common trait of falling whim to a false superiority, imbued by Wenger.

Sometimes i’m gobsmacked by the delusion of Arsenal fans: we are not the invincibles anymore and very rarely post 2011 have won league games comfortably.

  8. Hmmmm, my prediction:
    Cech
    Kos ……………….Musta………….Monre
    Bell Kola
    Xha Ramsey
    Iwobi Sanch

    Lach

Sub: Xha……….for Wishere, Iwobi…… for Girou (need to score his 100 goals in Arsenal)
Prediction Arsenal 4: West Brom 1
