Arsenal v West Ham Review – Gunners come good after awful start

The second half was much more promising and it was a textbook Monreal goal from a Xhaka freekick, but the West Ham hitman Arnautovic equalized and it was time to get Iwobi off and put on PEA, but then Arsenal started playing and put immense pressure on the Hammers. Xhaka came close Welbeck came close, but as usual Arsenal startgoing for it in the last ten minutes.

Ramsey makes it 2-1 with 8 mins to go, then acazette lived up to the hype with two excellent goals before the end of the match. One assisted by Aubameyang, and in the last minute Ramsey finds the bottom corner to make it a great 4-1.

Game over and Arsenal have scored more than three in their last six home games. The first time since 1958…

  1. Great win, poor first half, poor iwobi, excellent Ramsey and happy for Laca with hope he will take it to Europa.

  2. Just what we needed ahead of Thursday. 2nd half was the performance we’ve come to expect and have missed most of this season. Thought Welbeck was very impressive and sparked a lot of our attacks. Ramsey had quality in final third, and Aubameyang is just class and opened up the game for us. We look way better on counters, and his movement around the box is much appreciated. Still need to be stronger in defense. West Ham had a good 5 minute spell and we concede. Overall though a good game, good atmosphere. Let’s do this Thursday. Hope Elneny gets fit in time for World Cup. Deserves to go.

    1. well not surprise of the empty seats….end of season…and we have got nothing to play for apart from Europa….

Previous seasons we were challenging for the 4th spot…hence the anxiety

  3. Pros
Wenger had a good send off
    Auba and Lacca quality
    Ramsey will always cause problems
Xhaka best game I’ve seen him have although see cons

    Cons
Mustafi will never make a defender as long as I have a hole in my backside
Welbeck has the touch of a baby elephant and some fans are happy because he runs a lot
    Xhaka is average at best
    Iwobi is shocking

    1. big difference if one of our 4 creative midfielders play

last week vs Newcastle, we were missing Ozil, Mkhi, Ramsay and Wilshere

  4. Laca, Mkhi, Auba and Ozil

    our attack are formidable

The new manager will just have to work on the defense

  5. “and in the last minute Ramsey finds the bottom corner to make it a great 4-1.”
LOL why are you Harry Claiming Lacazette’s last goal as Ramsey’s?

  6. Usual suspects as always…. Mustafi perhaps should be the first one to go. He was lost in his own world.

Iwobi certainly looks like trying to play his way out of Arsenal FC. Other youngsters should be given a run instead of letting him waste a space on the pitch.

  7. I really hope we keep this superb home record next season, coupled with a good away form we can challenge for the title even if we wont win. Big players want to at-least challenge for titles otherwise they leave

    1. He has been poor, but with him on bench or somewhere near there we can rest some players. He is not that poor to loan him. I am happy with him as squad player.

      1. i dont think he even cuts it as a squad player. Even someone like Welbeck tends to be useful now and then, but Iwobi really doesn’t excel at anything. He just loses the ball, runs into bad areas, can’t cross, doesnt assist, score, or drag defenders… I struggle to name his qualities. he wasn’t always like this either, but has become very bad after his debut season. He’s been given a lot of game time and more than enough chances. Surely the next manager will see to loan him till someone buys. A lot of other youth talent that are supposed to be better than Alex.

  8. Welbeck is like a different player, everytime hes on the ball you know something is going to happen. Ramsey is one of the most underrated footballer. Laca and Auba reminds us how much Arsenal have missed a good finisher.

    1. Welbeck seems to be getting better in terms of runs and also shots… Still a Bambi player but there is definitely progress from training with Laca and Auba especially

  9. Iwobi just need to revert to the audacious mazy dribbler who could sometimes deliver some superb final balls. He was a risk-taker at his debut which was refreshing from the boring slow -sideway passing. Now Wenger has forced him to fit in the sideway tiki-taka bullshit, he looks completely uninterested.
Many players in this squad would greatly improve from playing a direct football with more through ball, one-twos and more risk-taking choices instead of the safe passing crap.
xhaka, iwobi, welbeck, lacazette, aubameyang, mkhitaryan, ramsey, bellerin, monreal all these players look better when we play more direct.
Liverpool are doing it now and since their defenders are sitting deeper than the 1st half of the season they have more time to react to opponent attacks thus the same defense who looked as bad as ours is playing much better.

  10. wenger is trying to use the same tactics when we had fabregas, nasri, van persie. It’s incredible that the man who could change from direct football during vieira henry era to a possession football to suit fabregas, nasri rosicky couldn’t see that this squad needed us to revert to a more direct football.

By direct football i’m referring to fast quick passing with more risk-taking with a mixture of short and long passing. Not referring to tony pulis long ball football.

  11. I wouldn’t even loan Iwobi next season, because I see ZERO potential. I often refer to Welbeck as a headless chicken, but Iwobi has taking on his mantle. Sell Iwobi now whilst we can still get a bit of cash for him.

    1. Agreed, disgrace that some season ticket holders still aren’t turning up. So many people would give anything to watch Wengers last few games in charge.

      1. Admin
We are concerned here by ARSENAL
I personnaly dont give a f**k about former players or managers(Wenger when gone)

    1. Spot on Admin. I will so surprised that Giroud could take on and driblble 4 players even when he was impeded and was already going down, obeying the law of gravity.

His physocal strength is second to none. That bad tackles on him woukd have ended some players World cup’s dream.

      Whaoh! What a player !!!

      1. Yep. I don’t remember him ever doing anything like that with Arsenal… But then he didn’t haveMorata as a partner then

        1. Giroud scored some pretty special goals for us and was also involved in some beautiful team goals. He was never short on skill, just pace.

  12. Iwobi almost lost is the game. Difficult for some on here to accept but the game changed with the sub.

  13. Iwobi is absolutely shit. The guy doesn’t create, doesn’t score, doesn’t assist, doesn’t cross… Nothing. He can dribble, but only to lose the ball to an opponent. Mustafi should be sold asap, had hopes for him when he joined us but he’s a joke of a defender. Other than that, thanks to the lads for winning the match.

  14. Ramzy waiving at the fans… Hmmm
? It might be AW is not the only one leaving at the end of the season.
    Just saying.

  15. Football is a funny game; Welbeck has a great shot on goal result in a great save by Hart, Ramsey has a shot/cross score a goal due to miscommunication between Rice and Hart. I agree that Welbeck appears to be improving each game, since his return from injury.
The game changed with the introduction of Aubameyang and the combination with Lacazette gives Arsenal a potent goal threat going forward, with additional contributions from Welbeck and Ramsey.
Ospina was solid (very little chance to save goal) and Monreal was back towards his best indefending, crossing and a great volley to open the scoring. Bellerin needs to take lessons from Monreal, because he can’t seem to keep the ball down.

  16. Nothing changes ,Mustafi second rate, Iwobi frustrating but real pace and skill up front with Ramsay and Maitland Niles powering on from mid field.Hope Elneny recovers quickly .He has done really well recently.

  17. At times I wonder why some of you here bash Iwobi, is it cause he is Nigerian? Every game you all look for a scapegoat whether we win, draw or loose it ain’t fair at all. No coach will put in a player in his lineup without believing he does well, no arsenal player bar Wilshere has better close ball control than Iwobi currently and mind you the lad is always direct in his play. You all bash our players for sideways pass but praise Kroos when he does the same. At times I wonder if people here like Jon, Phil are even arsenal fans
