Arsenal WILL be up for Tottenham but is that enough?

One thing that has been plaguing Arsenal and our challenge for the Premier League title all season, and for quite a few years now to be fair, is the tendency of the Gunners to not really turn up for a match. Whether it has been on an individual player by player level or whether the whole team as a unit has been lacklustre for some reason or another, and boy have we been punished plenty of times for it.

At least that is not something we Arsenal fans have to worry about later when we take on Tottenham in the latest version of the north London derby, in my opinion anyway. The Gunners are always up for this game to be fair to them and the importance of this one makes it even less likely that any player on either side will coast through it.

So I reckon we can expect full commitment and effort all over the White Hart lane pitch, but will that be enough? I think it is a massive factor because that has been the cause of most of our problems this season, but because it has been so bad for so long for Arsenal I am worried that the players may struggle to find their top form no matter how hard they try.

Our fluent football has not really been much in evidence of late, even in that great result against Man City in the FA cup semi-final. At the same time I think that the pressure may well affect the quality of the spuds as well, because they know that any dropped points now will pretty much end their own title race.

So will Arsenal being up for it be enough to get the right result and mash those spuds once again?

Bob.

  1. Tottenham has conceded the least number of goals in the premier league. Infact, across the top 5 leagues in Europe only Bayern have conceded less goals than Tottenham, and thats probably because they play less games in the Bundesliga. Adding on to the fact that the spuds have lost only 3 games in the league while we have lost almost triple the number at 8 games, they have also outscored us at 69-64 goals. The numbers indicate they are better than us both attacking and defending. It really doesn’t look good for us and if we win it will be down to good luck like a fortunate deflection or offside goal.

  2. Off course not. This is Wenger we are talking about.

  3. For me it will be good enough if they are up for it for 90+ minutes. I realize this doesn’t mean we will win, although we could. But far too often, as you rightfully mention in your opening paragraph, the team doesn’t show up. I think this is the main reason we are where we are in the table. Not because of a lack of talent but because of a lack of preparedness to go each game 100% for 90+ minutes.

If we lose, we lose so be it. To me the results are not as important as the efforts. But not making an effort is what kills me. Spurs are a more disciplined, more consistent and better managed team so I won’t blame the players for losing but there is no reason Spurs put in a better effort.

Leaving a manager in place for 10+ years without any meaningful progress, who has lost his touch with the modern game is the same as not making an effort. Saying Ramsey is the future of this club (with Ox) is the same as not making an effort, are there really no better players than Rasmey to carry our hopes for the future? To say you want to keep Giroud despite the blatant obvious truth that the player has never been top drawer, is not making an effort, are there no better strikers we can reach for? I think there are many.

To me burdeneing the club with this silly game about the manager’s future is not making an effort.
When was it February? Early March, when Wenger said you will soon learn about my future? We are practically in May and everyone is still speculating. I am convinced this uncertainty and the negative attention from press and fans that comes with it has grately contributed to our worst season in Wenger’s history with club and that is his own words.

But if the lads give us 110% today and we lose, I will still be fine with the result because with today’s set-up (owner, manager and waste of space – Gazidas) we can not reasonably expect much more.

      1. Haha whatever I tell you you wouldn’t believe me. Just prepare yourself for the hurt in the next week or so and the same old BS from Wenger in the next 2 years

  4. We have been fudged by Chelsea, City, Liverpool and United in the past 5 years, but not by Spurs so I think this will change today.

    6-0, 6-3, 5-1, 8-2 and possibly today 6-1

  5. Tottenham, It pains me to say, have a better group of players who have been formed into a naturally balanced and fully functioning team by a top young manager who inspires them.

We on the other hand have a handful of skilled but individual players who seem to be un-inspired, incohesive, and out of ideas under the direction of Wenger.

This barring a freakishly good game coupled with a huge can of fortune is why I see us only being able to manage a draw at the very best.

    1. I would be happy with a draw because it would end Spurs’ season. A draw hurts them more than us, unless of course you think we can get top 4 and we will have new manager. But if Wenger stays, which I think we all know is likely, a draw doesn’t hurt us so much because it well have no serious impact on next season.
