Arsenal to reach top four at Watford? – And after that?

If Arsenal do not carry on from where they left off before the current break for the latest international games and come back from the Premier League away tie at Watford with all three points, it will not be the first time that the Gunners have proved me wrong.

Arsenal have already proved me wrong this season, though, because I thought it was going to be a season that lurched from crisis to disaster judging on the opening three EPL games. I still don’t think that Arsenal have hit top gear or even come close to our best form as yet, but I have liked the way they are fighting for each other and getting results even if the performances are not as good as they can be.

That new element to the Gunners make up is why I expect us to win at Vicarage Road on Saturday, even though the home team are no pushover and have been in good form so far. Arsene Wenger will have players back from injury and others like Wilshere having gained more fitness over this break so I think we have too much quality for the Hornets as long as the attitude is right and the effort is there.

The Gunners go into the next round of league games just outside the top four, but only by goal difference to Chelsea and a single point to Tottenham, so any slip ups there will see us break into the top four for the first time this season and if that does not happen this week it will be the one after or the one after that.

Arsenal have Watford, a woefully out of sorts Everton and then Swansea City up next and until we do get into the top four I think it will be full focus and maximum points. After that it is anyone’s guess which Arsenal we will see. What do you guys expect?

  1. I’ll be honest – it’s going to be tough without Mustafi. But we do have other world class players for that position so I remain hopeful.

    1. We have other world class CDers? Like who? IMO the only WC CD we have when fully fit is Kos. Holding has promiss but has a long way to go before he can be labeled WC, Chambers is a bit of an unknown given how few games he has been given in CD position, so which other CD do we have that is world class and can play on the right of a 3 at the back formation?

We might be forced to revert back to a back 4 with 2 CDers and Kolasinac and Bellerin on the outsides. Not the end of the world, but boy could we have used Gabriel at this point who was very effective on the right of a 3 at the back formation.

      1. When he says world class he either means people from around the world know his name. Or else he’s just arsing about trying to get Gooners to talk s**t about their own club.

  2. It would be the same movie that we have seen in the last thirteen years. Because we still have the same things for so many years:

    – The same obsolete system.

    – The board’s lack of ambition remains the same.

    – The lack of world class youth development.

    – The penny-pinching transfer policy.

Surely one of the richest clubs in the world could do better? If they don’t want to buy expensive players because of “financial stability” and more profit for the investors, why not improve the academy?

Clubs with less resources like Lyon and Monaco can produce better talents. For example, Lyon’s academy produced Lacazette and Martial, whereas Mbappe and Kurzawa graduated from Monaco’s academy. Why can’t Arsenal do the same thing?

    1. Same obsolete system? Changed this year and won two trophies with it

Boards lack of ambition? World class signing in Laca

Lack of world class youth development? Nelson

Penny pinching transfer policy? Broke club record transfer fee in the last window

      #trollresponsibly

      1. Trophies? You mean the Community Shield and the FA Cup? They are minor trophies.

Signed Lacazette at an expensive price and Kolasinac on a free transfer. Whereas other rich clubs have tried to address their weaknesses by signing more players.

Nelson? Far behind Mbappe, Dembele, Martial and Rashford.

Yes, the club broke its transfer record, but only purchased one high quality player. Why not address the other weaknesses in the team by purchasing more high quality players?

Arsenal is one of richest clubs in the world, yet they don’t have the budget to improve the team more?

        1. Just because Nelson didn’t cost £100m+ doesn’t mean he is not a good player. He is atleast as good as all those you mentioned

        2. I still consider the FA Cup a big trophy.
I was reading AFC fans saying it was a big trophy until we started winning it but not the EPL, then all of a sudden it isn’t so they can keep saying the same BS.

  3. It is sad that Mustafi has got injured but we can’t keep moaning about it. However we have other decent options including our captain Per Mertesacker and Rob
Holding and with Lauren Koscielny back we should be alright. What will determine our season is the players’ attitude and mental strength rather than what happens to an individual player. Soccer is a team sport and as long as we play as a solid unit with the determination to win we shall get the results. We, as fans, need to give our team maximum support. Let us not unnecessarily disparage them. Even if we lose a game let us not go overboard with our criticisms and boos because it may affect their morale. Let us be like Liverpool fans who always keep their spirits high regardless of the team’s performance in a particular game. Let us cheer on the team and then complain about management after the game.

  4. welcome to a makeshift defense that Wenger for you! another wasted season we always lack something,we are a Rich club but we operate like beggars

  5. Not sure why people are so worried about Mustafi? Poor first season, he has been poor this season, and doesn’t even want to play for Arsenal, or Wenger, or both anymore!

Hopefully we’ll keep winning our easy games like we have been, and then see if Wenger can FINALLY win his first tough fixture of the season.

  6. Marco Silva has done a good job at Watford. I can’t see them challenging for anything but I think they’ll cause some teams problems (right Liverpool?!)
Just hope Koscielny is back, now with Mustafi out. Holding & Mertesacker in the same back line….not exactly ideal. Yes they did well in the fa cup final, but haven’t been great since

  7. I was calling for Wenger to get another Top CD (especially after losing Gabriel who wasn’t that great too) but every summer he gets cheap in a few positions. He puts too much faith in his players.

Our Top CDs are Koscielny and Mustafi. Koscielny is 32 years old now. Holding is good but not a Top CD yet. Mertsacker can’t play every match due to age. He will retire at end of the season. Chambers is decent but not good enough to start PL matches. Wenger knew before the season started that Koscielny and Mustafi duo probably won’t last the whole season. He should have got another Top CD!

    Hope Mustafi gets fit asap.

      1. Chambers was one of the better cb in the prem based on performances boro also played with 3 at the back so he can do a job till January then we reassess

          1. To find a def that conceded less than them in the EPL you would have gone up to 10th place WBA. Boro only conceded 9 more than Arsenal.

They only scored 27… No team in the EPL scored less than them.

Do you think teams win games and survive when they score less than 1 goal a game?

I will point out the obvious just for you.

Teams who got relegated was also the only teams in the EPL last year to not score on average more than 1 goal per EPL game, teams who did managed to survive.

Still think it was Chambers poor performances that cost Boro EPL football or do you now think it may have been their poor attack that cost them?

    1. Chambers is good enough to start EPL games, it is frustrating that Wenger doesn’t trust him enough but we do tend to see that pattern in players which he didn’t truly back in a purchasing in the 1st place.

You can call for Wenger to do something and he might agree 100% but if Gazidis fails to get the player then that is not Wengers fault or Wenger not recognising the issue.

Remember that Wenger wanted Lemar, is he an Arsenal player?

Wenger has wanted CBs over the years and we have panic bought or waited till next transfer window.

Wenger can identify top talent but we need a board that will get the managers top targets, or at least more than 1/3 like it was this summer window.

I am not going to claim Wenger is perfect however to ignorantly blame Wenger for every issue at AFC… Frustrating. We are a business and we do have different departments. Or will you claim that Wenger also arranges sponsorship deals? Claim that Wenger sorts out the transport for the squad?

  8. Remember that Watford beat us 2-1 last season. I was so upset for my team and my bet ticket. Don’t think that it will be easy, with or without Mustafi
