Arsenal’s Odds on winning the Premier League this season

Odds of 4/1 for the Premier League outright look pretty tasty Arsenal odds, right? That’s what the Premier League betting experts have thrown our way in the pre-season, and with Petr Cech arriving to be, what many fans are calling, the final piece of Arsene Wenger’s jigsaw; Gunners fans could be in for a very interesting 2015/16 Premier League season.

Two consecutive FA Cups have, at long last, given Arsenal fans something to cheer about. It had been an age since any silverware of note, but although English football’s biggest cup competition is nothing to sniff at, the Gunners will be gunning for the main prize this season; the Premier League.

With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez last season, Arsenal became arguably most lethal attacking outfit in the land. With the likes of Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsay joining the Chilean, the Gunners boasted a sickeningly impressive forward roster. This will be crucial to their assault on the Premier League this season, but could the lack of a killer striker once again come back to haunt them?

Olivier Giroud, for all his holdup abilities and aerial prowess, has never hit 20 goals for a season in the English top flight. He had a superb second half of last season, for sure, but his talents really lie in bringing the attacking midfielders into the game, and isn’t considered to be a frontrunner for the top scorer award next season.

The same can be said of Theo Walcott, who still hasn’t convinced Wenger (or many Arsenal fans, for that matter) that he is the man to lead the line for the club. Quick as anything, and he has certainly improved his linkup play; Walcott remains, at his best, an explosive commodity out-wide.

The yearly rumours of Karim Benzema have started up again, and until they get a hitman of his calibre, the likes of Aguero, Costa, Rooney and Benteke will be looked at with real envy by Arsenal fans.

The aforementioned Petr Cech, however, is no longer yearned for by the Gunners faithful! Chelsea let him head over to the Emirates Stadium to take up the gloves for Jose Mourinho’s (current) arch nemesis. Bizarre.

But if you were thinking about taking advantage of the free bets on offer to back Arsenal to claim a first Premier League title since 2003/04, the arrival of the big Czech will surely have pushed you in only one direction. Arguably still better than his Belgian replacement at Stamford Bridge, and still only 33; Roman Abramovich has gifted something Arsenal haven’t seen in many moons. Yep, a dependable goalkeeper.

With Cech between the sticks, Koscielny and Mertesacker in front of him, and the mad-as-a-bee Coquelin storming around the middle of the park; a leaky Gunners backline is certainly not on the cards. If ever there was a time to bet on Arsenal for the title, it’s surely now.
