Have Arsenal Really Tabled A Bid For This Former Liverpool Star? by AT
As Arsenal look set to finish the season on a high note, there is no denying that Arsene Wenger still has to bring in reinforcements for the next campaign to have a more realistic push for the title. But while a defensive midfielder and a prolific striker may seem like the priority, the Metro are reporting that Arsenal have tabled a £3.6million for the Real Madrid right-back Alvaro Arbeloa.
The former Liverpool star is said to be unhappy at the Santiago Bernabeau and looks set to leave the club in the summer with a move back to England on the cards. Though primarily a right-back, the Spanish international can play in central defence and in midfield as well, making him a very versatile and experienced addition to any squad. But do Arsenal really need him?
Personally, I don’t think so! Arsene Wenger already has three right-backs in the squad in the form of Mathieu Debuchy, Callum Chambers and young Hector Bellerin, and let’s not forget, Carl Jenkinson is having a fine season on loan at West Ham. In addition, the current Arsenal squad is already blessed with so many versatile players that I really don’t see the need for another one to come in.
Quite honestly, the story doesn’t seem to have much credibility, it seems to be a case of the media getting wind of Arbeloa’s unhappy situation in Madrid and trying to sell a story based on that. But in the off chance that Arsenal’s interest in the player is indeed genuine, I’m sure that most Gooners will agree with my opinion that we simply do not need him.
