Asano set to follow Campbell or Park’s Arsenal path?

Arsenal fans may not be too surprised to hear that we will not be seeing much from one of the transfer additions of last summer yet again next season, because when the announcement was made about the Gunners signing the Japan international forward Takuma Asano it was not exactly met with delight and excitement by the Arsenal faithful.

In fact, even though Asano was just 21-years old and had won the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award in the J-League with Sanfrecce Hiroshima, a lot of us felt that he could well be another Park Chu-Young, the South Korean international star who spent three years on the books with Arsenal but only made a single Premier League appearance.

Park did at least have a work permit to play his football in England though, and he was given the number 9 shirt by Arsene Wenger and some chances to play in the early days, unlike Asano, who Metro reports has yet again been denied a permit and so will continue his loan spell with the German club Stuttgart.

Perhaps this suggests that the path of the Japanese player through his Arsenal career might be more like that of Joel Campbell, who had to wait three years for his own chance to play for his parent club. Asano did impress for Stuttagart last season and helped them gain promotion to the Bundesliga so if he carries on it might not be too long before he gets that permit and a chance to show us what he can do.

Campbell’s time as a Gunner since getting permission to play has not been a roaring success but with 40 appearances to his name over two seasons it is much better than Park’s, so which of the two will Asano follow in the footsteps of?

  1. Why is Debuchy still at the club?
    Jenkinson?

Why haven’t we spent any money yet on players?

Most importantly why on earth haven’t we sorterd out Alexis, Özil and Chamberlain new deals yet?

I honestly thought the club wouldn’t be messing around once the season had finished. Yet here we all are listening to Arsenal being close to signing a Russian kid and some Norwegian kid. I’ve been on sky sports since the window opened only to hear city want Alexis and are keen to get him and now Chelsea join the hunt for Chamberlain ?

    Yet what are we doing….?

All the big clubs are readying big bids for top players.
We can’t even keep hold of the decent players we’ve got let alone sign some other decent players to improve our team.

Oh to be a Gooner ?

  2. I’m thinking why mbappe didn’t like the picsof real’s cr7 or modric or PSG’s rabiot or matuidi’s pic but only Sanchez’s and the Jeff’s…..
    Where is Wenger’s smirk?

  3. 4th place finish next season so predictable. I’m sick of the same old bull.

I’m sure the pundits will get bored of us soon.

Get me thinking positive for once Arsenal!

  4. I don’t really know enough about the player but I hope he has a good head on his shoulders and works hard, from what I have read about Campbell makes me glad he is on his way out, non of his loan coaches have had much good to say about him and he keeps getting dropped.

wonder how many posts totally avoid the article and what the article talked about…

    1. Campbell was one of the most hard working lads on our pitch back then when he used to get game time. He was scoring and assisting and quite frankly everyone was shocked when Wenger just woke up one day and decided to bench him the same way he woke up one day and decided to bench hat trick hero Lucas Perez. But sure, am certain you and your merry band of AKBs will always find articles out there to vindicate the foolish decesions of your precious specialist of failure Wenger.

  5. Park
    Campbell
    Vela
    Miyaichi
All players we signed with great hope who, ultimately, flopped.
Letting gnabry go was a huge mistake. He’d have done well in our new formation, push Alexis up top and stick gnabry on the left.
Alas, one can dream. He’ll probably hammer us in a couple of years in our customary raping at the hands of Bayern Munich.

  6. Perhaps it is not conscious, but Wenger cannot see his predilections. Young boys who will not play for the club also freebies aka….Sanogo, who waste time and resources. So far this window we have signed a freebie. This is not the way a club can win the English Premier League. Asano, Park. were cheapo’s/panic buys. Is it not clear that Wenger is misguided at least, probably deluded. His anal retentive character could be used as an example to prove Freud’s theory of Psychoanalysis. His disrespect and vocal criticisms of supporters are a distraction to avoid responsibility. My heart is with the supporters who care about this club. Wenger is Arsenal’s ‘General Franco’ and we are his enemy. So far it seems that at around 10.55pm on transfer window deadline day we will be building a panic driven football team to get fourth place back again. I am sick of it and I am sick of groundhog day.

  7. Asano’s performances next season in the Bundesliga will help to determine whether he has the quality to make an impact in Arsenal’s first team squad. I have no problem with AW signing unknown players as these types of signings have proved successful in the past, and unsuccessful of course. However, my problem is that alongside such gambles, we need to be signing world class players, this is something we have done few and far between recently.
