Beat Hull and Arsenal should be set for top 4 spot

I know that a lot of Arsenal fans are currently thinking that the top four is a sad second prize for the Gunners after we blew yet another attempt to be crowned Premier League champions, but you can bet that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United would snatch your hand off to be assured of a top four finish and a coveted place in the Champions League.

The Gunners may not have won the title in 12 years but we have always been in Europe’s elite competition in that time and I do not agree with the Arsenal fans who think it would be a good idea for us to drop out now, just on the off chance it might convince the club to part ways with Arsene Wenger.

If we do get embroiled in a fight for the top four and it looks dodgy then you can bet the boss will prioritise that, whereas a comfortable race to the finish line would allow him to focus more on the cup games and for me a trophy win is very important for us this season, or at least a longer run in Europe than we are used to just to show some sort of progress.

That is why I think that a win over Hull City on Saturday could be huge for Arsenal. With Liverpool and Tottenham facing each other, while Man United face in form Watford and Man City travel to Bournemouth, all three points for Arsenal should see the table looking much better for us next week, so come on you Gunners, get this win and get out of the top four dogfight.

  1. What’s the use of a top four if we can’t get to even the quarter finals of the champions league?
Top four makes money for the greedy board and an 8 million a year for a manager that has no clue as to how to win the league.
The only good news we can take is the manager resigning.

  2. I don’t know. May be it would be good that Allegri could focus just on the league in his first season in charge

  3. Based on our present form that’s going to be the big question…what a state we’ve got ourselves into, worrying if we can beat Hull at home !!

  4. When Leicester won the trophy , Wenger said they did not playing in any of the Europe elite’s competition. Wenger has said the same about Chelsea.
To Wenger, the winning of the premier league is not down to the team’s performance but because they did not play in lots of competitions.
Why don’t Arsenal do the same and focus on the premier league and win it too?
I think it spoils nothing cos we don’t win it anyway even if we qualify.
Wenger never run out of excuses. He is a failure in disguise?!!

  5. Man U and Man city won at least a premiership within the last 5 years so them being happy for a top 4 is ok.
Arsenal did not win a major trophy for more than a decade so top 4 equals to zero…

  6. Cannot believe some fans still care about Champions League football. We are a complete joke in that competition. We need to miss out to hopefully remove Wenger.

  7. I’d rather miss out on Europe altogether this season, so that it will be an awakening for all involved with the club. We are on a slow downward spiral and something drastic like this must happen to halt and jolt us upwards. Fingers crossed.

  8. to play in the champions league is good, but to be eliminated always in the last 16 isn’t good. but i prefer to play in the elite competition then play in the uefa cup. at the moment is seems hard to finish in the top three, but even if i am againt aw, to stay i like to finish in the top three and above the spuds = gooner for ever

  9. Is this article a wind up? Seriously? Be happy with 4th place? Really?

Also, let’s be clear, 4th is not guaranteed this year.

  10. tis funny what a couple of weeks means in football . it was very recently that there were , what, can only be described ,as juveniles,on here, and on other arsenal sites, crowing about how much we , the arsenal , would win the premiership by !!.and low and behold, a couple of weeks later , we are wringing our hands at the thoughts of us winning the fourth place trophy, once again .this is what is wrong with our glorious club, no ambition ,right from the fans upwards , all the way up to the boardroom.we will once again be praying that spurs slip up on the last day of the season again . or worse still , can spurs finish above us this season .with attitude like this then we deserve what we get me thinks.

  11. theres nothing to gain from this season besides an FA Cup maybe, and were finished the moment we run into Chelsea/United/City in that competition. And Sanchez is certain to leave next window too. Bleak times folks, hard to care about top 4 when we will just be back in this position no matter what next year unless things change.

  12. Of course we need to beat Hull to ensure we stay in the race for a top 4 place but I think our remaining games against the other top 6 teams are much more crucial.

For example, we still have to play Man U and Mourinho is not in the habit of losing to Wenger. On today’s table where we are only 2 points ahead of Man U a loss to them would see them ahead of us. We have not done well agaisnt top 6 teams and there are lot points left to play for against those teams, in fact we could even consider Everton a tough game.

A win against Hull although important won’t mean much in terms of securing 4th.
