Belief in Premier League title bid to keep Giroud at Arsenal

It may be a bit too simplistic to say that just one thing is going to make the France international centre forward Olivier Giroud happy to stay in north London and play for Arsenal FC for at least one more year, because there are all sorts of different factors, but I for one am happy that the big man is no longer actively seeking a transfer away from our club this summer.

Whereas previous comments from Giroud towards the end of last season and this summer have suggested that he will not be happy to spend much a time on the bench as he did during the last campaign, The Mirror has reported the Frenchman suggesting that as long as he is appreciated he will play whatever role the boss sees as right. More telling for me, though, is the way Giroud talks about titles and that suggests to me that he believes that Arsenal have a real chance of being crowned Premier League champions next season.

The 30-year old striker said, “I won a few titles in my career, that is an important thing, but there is another thing which is important for me.

“And that’s the people [see you as a] loyal warrior on the pitch – that you always give your best for the team.

“And that’s why I want to carry on my good journey at Arsenal and I always want to give my best.

“I would love to win another title, or maybe more until the end of my contract.

“The motivation is here, always doing your best to make your family proud.”

Giroud must be aware that the Gunners are about to sign his international teammate Alexandre Lacazette and that most people expect him to be the first choice starter, but perhaps the France national team and the way Didier Deschamps selects it also gives Giroud belief.

In 2017 Lacazette won just one cap and did not score, while Giroud scored six times in his five games. The year before he scored eight from 14 while the Lyon forward did not appear once. So there should be strong competition up front for Arsenal and could that be the key to finally claiming that EPL title as Giroud seems to believe?

    That’s 57 mill

Put that towards a Monaco raid

    1. We need Giroud Muff. Welbz is too similar to Lacazette without the dribbling or finishing. Giroud is the only genuine plan B strike option we have. Walcott and Perez are both similar to Sanchez in terms of pace and positioning. Giroud’s link up play is also without rival among our forwards.

You want a fire sale to buy more players?
      Campbell £3m
Wilshere £15m (prob only £10m up front due to injury record)
      Gibbs £8m
      Szczesny £10m (1 year left)
      Jenkinson £3m
      Debuchy £2m
Perez £13m (I like him, but he’s no 4th choice plus kids need opportunities)
      Total £49m saving £375k a week…

      1. Amazes me how such a well thought out opinion merits so many thumbs down.

Of all the players listed for sale, which actually have a future @ Arsenal?

        1. May be not the players, but price.
I would keep Jenkinson, may be loan him at most.
          Campbell/Szczesny will fetch more.
If we get Mahrez, cash in on Theo too

      2. Lolz this is so accurate:

“Welbz is too similar to Lacazette without the dribbling or finishing.”

        Welbeck: ‘Bambi on ice’.

  2. Nice words from Lampy but actions speak louder than words. I got no problems with Giroud starting in the Europa league games, but wouldn’t it be bare jokes if he started the Premier league games upfront with Lacazette on the wing? ?

  3. He has the kind of mentally that many more of our players need. “Loyal Warriors” are what a club should be made of. Fight the good fight Oliver!

  4. For me I think the two can play together. And there are some games where we might the need either of them in the starting team. For those of among us who blame Giroud for the failures of the entire team, Giroud goals per game greatly improved last season even when the team wasn’t playing to his strength. There is nothing wrong with having different CFs with different dimensions in the team. CFs like Giroud feast on balls placed into or close to the 18 yard box. With the signing of Sead and the recent crossing ability of Ox(if he stays) I see Giroud improving. And he seems not to be bothered by competition.

  5. Crunch talks:
Round one, Wenger tells Bellerin to STFU & texts Barcelona to Jog On!

Round two,’ knock – Knock’ …. “Enter” ?? “Take a seat Sanchez” as Wenger rolls up his sleeve….. ??✨
    To be continued…

  6. I’m happy for Giroud to stay
But Lacazette must start over Giroud in Premier League matches. Lacazette is much better finisher and they can’t play together in same team. They are both strikers.

Lacazette should start PL and EL matches
    Giroud needs to be SuperSub
Giroud can start when Lacazette is injured and Fa Cup / League cup matches.

  7. Everton scout Carlo Jacomuzzi is quoted as telling Italian radio station Radio CRC that ‘we are going to sign Giroud for £20 million”

Mahrez has arrived at Arsenal’s training ground, ?? apparently he’s turned up to give Lacazette a hand in completing his medical. ?

  8. I was hoping to read an update on here. Not sure if it’s a wind up or not. Just read lacazette failed medical deal collapsed arsenal now eyeing josh king. Wtf is this a tease? I think it was David ornstein though

    1. Hahaha that’s some funny ? ? ?& I suppose Greizmann wore him out on their hols in LA?

    1. Breaking …my neck for a dump, must dash ?

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE has reportedly completed his medical at Arsenal and paperwork is being completed.

  9. Giroud will go. We can’t make it work having #1 and #2 French strikers playing for the same spot. Egos and lack of support for each other will come into play.

    1. We did it with keepers for a while. Don’t see the problem

Be mad to let Giroud go. With exception of one player had best goals to time ratio in prem’ship!

Won’t get rich by selling him!

And gives us different option – has to stay!

Only time and experimentation will show if can play together or not. Either way both in team makes sense to me

      Sell Perez / Wellbeck instead

  10. Finally i can read it with my own eyes on sky sport news…. Lacazette has completed Arsenal medical. Pliz Wenger redeem yourself. Get Mbappe and Lemar the sale off that sulking son of a bit*#ch calling himself Alex Sanchez. Hez making us look like we are smaller than Man City Bayern etc. We are the Arsenal Damn it

    1. The best comment I have read on this site. I like Girud more than Alexis by far because he loves my FC Arsenal. I hate Alexis attitude towards Arsenal

  11. It will be a done deal from any minute now.. Not last week or the week before that .. but TODAY! ? Welcome aboard Lacazette ????
