BFG says `Bring on Dortmund` Arsenal are ready!!

There were some really good signs for Arsenal at the weekend, as we outplayed the Premier League champions for large parts of the game, scored two cracking goals and were a bit unlucky not to come away with all three points. But it was another step in the right direction for Arsenal who have not quite hit top gear yet this season.

Despite that, our German defender Per Mertesacker reckons that this is the perfect time for the Gunners to go to his home country to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, as he explains in an Arsenal.com report. Tomorrow’s game and the return fixture at the Emirates are likely to decide who finishes on top of the group and our BFG thinks that a weakened Dortmund are there for the taking.

Not only are they missing some of their key players, but they have had to replace the likes of Robert Lewandowski this summer and the new players have yet to bed in, which is why they have had a pretty poor start to their own season in the Bundesliga. And the centre back is taking a lot of positives from the City game, especially the fight and determination we showed in difficult circumstances.

Mertesacker said, “”I think you could see that we gave absolutely everything so we are really proud. I think they deserved the draw because they pressed up and pushed really high at the end. It’s a bit disappointing but I think the team is in a good shape. We have good players and potential.

“I think we have to give absolutely everything again to get something out of Dortmund,” he said. “They have a good squad, have suffered a few injuries and I think it’s good to have them at the start [of the group]. We’ll try our best and try to deal with the pressure they will put on us.”

And there is the added factor of confidence, which should be in our favour after we managed to beat them on their own turf last season. So can Arsenal make an early statement and take this group by the throat?

LOOL so monreal is now injured, chambers missed training and gibbs is barley fit. Looks like it will be a back two of mert and kos against dortmund.
    ————-szcz————
    ———mert——-kos——
    Ramsey—-flamini—-wilshere—-OX
    Sanchez—-welbeck—-sanogo—-campbell.

    DECENT.
well done wenger for neglecting the defence in the transfer window.

    1. Ks-Gunner

If that is true. Flamini is going to play LB and Bellerin Rb. And the Bvb are going to Rape us. In Wenger i trust.

      1. muffdiver

i still remember that 5-7 game with reading. not the scoreline. chamakh scoring two..in one game…an it wasnt a dream…and i wasnt high…

    2. Wazzzimbo

Alexis played exceptionally well when played on the left Vs City

      Szczesney
      Bellerin – Mertesacker – Koscielny – Gibbs
      Arteta
      Chamberlain – Cazorla – Wilshere – Sanchez
      Welbeck

  2. muffdiver

worried about u per, you had like poldi and ozzy alotta time off- an u barely played in world cup, slow and poor positioning, i expect a solid performance from you tommorow.

excited to see how dortmund cope with jack alexis and ramsay- we have some exciting players – good times 🙂

  3. Ronny331

    Back 4 tomorrow of:
Bellerin, Steve Bould, Wenger, Gibbs. 🙂

Defensive players dropping like flies, Kos will be next then we are screwed.
    Free agents anyone?

  4. alexhare

    Team for Dortmund:
    Szczezny
    Bellerin Mert Kos Gibbs
    Flamini
    Alexis Wilshere Rambo Özil
    Welbeck
This is how we will line up tomorrow. Guarantee it. I like the team apart from Özil out wide. However, if he’s allowed to go and find the ball and swap with players throughout, it’ll be alright.

  5. Young Gun_AFC

    The team we need:
    ——————-vito—————-
    Djouro——-senderos—squid——santos
    Chamack—frimpong—kalstrom—gervinho
    ————–bendner—–park————
    UNSTOPABLE.

    1. muffdiver

that defense couldnt tackle a cheeseburger in mcdonalds
ahh santos, the defender that thought he was roberto carlos…

remember denilson…not that one…our one…the good one- those were good times !!
frimpong is dripping in denchness….somewhere north of siberia

      1. Young Gun_AFC

Hahaha, the line up shows why we have been unsuccessful in recent years. Now there is less deadwood but not enough defensive cover… Peak times.
        Frimpong is always dench

        1. Ks-Gunner

I apolegize, i forgot about him having issues with his heart. I said it in a way of him giving us one, but neverless i am srry.

    2. Wonder

@Young Gun_AFC I dnt think this was our worst. I would replace Djouro with Eboue, the Sendoros with Cygan and Gervino with Jeffers

  6. Ted Drake

I think Ozil should be given one more chance to prove himself in the big game tomorrow. Another poor performance he should be dropped and forced to earn his way back into the team.

    1. NY_Gunner

      @ergs
Thats what i say. These guys are chompin at the bit and full of energy and technical skills. Unleash the “Young Gunz…

i just watch this individual camera on mesut ozil vs city did he really have such a bad game or is wenger right when he says if ”you go back watch games again only then do you reliase what ozil brings” im just putting the question out there and here is the link have a watch
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZyH0ZveRTk

ozil is a very intelligent player but the bad thing for him is the majority of the pubic wont understand what he truly brings to a team he plays the game so simple that its not catchy to the general public eye. people might react angryily to me saying that because they will feel im insulting there football know how . but thers a reason behind why wenger rates him why lowe continued to play him in world cup while he dropped gotze and thers a reason why mourinho says great things about him

      Simple= safety valve passing
Football is based on so many more variables more then ozil keeps the ball well.
Di Maria scores sets up goals all be it against weak opposition also did a lot of poor things but I’d rather have a player like Sanchez ornDi Maria in my side as the X factor is there Ozil brings not a lot let’s be honest.
He is way out of form and a position change I feel won’t change his form as moving him 10-20 yards right if playing of the left isn’t much of a change and it’s not like Wenger doesn’t give him license to roam centrally at times.

      1. gamer

be honest do you play football in real life i bet you dont because if you think moving 10-20 yards from the left to the middle wont make a difference clearly you never play football so you wont understand , also him having a free role being allowed to move to the middle is not the same since there is 2 of our players also in the middle so the space wont be available. di maria is better than ozil but guess what man utd have him so what you wana do about it .alexis is great player i love him as a player but he is poor in possession each player has their strong and weak points its up to the manager to get the best out of them and utilize each players strong points

        1. ergs

So you basically believe that Ozil will suddenly be brilliant when he plays in the hole!?!?!?
          Sigh delusional.
I think your missing the point Ozil has a lot of weak points and he isn’t showing much of his strong points which are very little anyway.
Cazorla Ox Wilshere and Sanchez are all far better at playing to a level which is respectable and good enough fir the team when played out of their so called “favoured” positions Ozil is woeful at times.
Absolute apologist for Ozil bore me.

        2. goonerretic

Moving 20 yds left or right makes a difference but not the black and white difference you are trying to imply. Its not like he is being asked to play as a GK or a CB for Christ sake.Plus giving the ball away or misplaced passes when not being pressured has little to do with playing right or left of midfield

  9. Sumo

    I hope Bellerin starts tomorrow.
UCL is not as physical as EPL so i think he will have a good game.
    Jenkinson did against Brayen away.

  10. leo

now calum chanbers could be a doubt for bvb game due to tonsils

wenger knew and did nothing! Arsenal are without defenders. A kid knows the number of defenders ,but Wenger doesn’t, he knew we were short u can’t expect a 19 yr like chambers 2 perform consistently 4 entire season

  11. leo

Shocking preparation for the season. To only have 6 defenders at the start of the season is unbelievable to be honest & what will happen If kos gets injured

    chelski CB’s – kurt zouma/ivanovic/cahill/terry
    city – mangala/company/demichelis/nastasic
    liverlool – skrtel/lovren/sakho/kolo toure
    arsenal – per/kos/chambers

  12. SAGunner

The season is barely on the way and we are already reaping the benefit of Wenger’s pig headed attitude – not bringing in defensive players, having screwed up yet another tfr window.
we have the great Ozxil of course who is an absolute demon in helping the defense – the lazy bastard. Leave him at home where he belongs. He is not worthy of an Arsenal football jersey.
Yes wenger will defend him… so would all of us if we had paid 42.5 for him – Wenger has to save his bacon and hope to hell Ozil will do a little running to help his mates- He clearly wants to be a spectator, so don’t use him on the pitch – let him watch the game on TV. We cant take on BD with ten players like we ended up doing against MC becuse we had a spectator on the park!

  13. leo

Wenger is speaking in Dortmund. Confirms Debuchy, Monreal & Sanogo are all injured. Chambers is fit

no sanogoal no party looks like he is diaby version 2 he has already been injured twice this season
A German journalist asks Wenger a question in English and asks him to reply in German, Wenger: “Why do you ask me in English then?” lol

  14. DennisTheMenace

i think wenger has achieved nirvana…….

he is happy even when we don’t get players we need
he is happy even if we throw away matches
he is happy when we don’t win the league
he is happy with any payer in the world… even if its squillachi or santos

see, always happy, no sadness…. complete nirvana

  15. leo

Gary Neville on SKY analyzing the last 8 minutes of the Arsenal-Man City game: “this is why Arsenal won’t win the League. Some players aren’t looking at the ball, some are talking, some are stretching.”

    1. muffdiver

…some are reading jane austen..some are painting their nails..give it a rest gary ….we know we wont win title ,

      1. goonerretic

“we know we wont win title ,”..Are you sure we know that? Many people here are still convinced we can win the quadruple this year

  16. mark

    It’s a conspiracy I tell you…someone’s knobbling our defenders….

Either that, or the God of transfer windows is wreaking his wrath upon our lack of defender signings…

Either way, the youngsters will be blooded soon…

  17. Ronny331

@muffdiver. If only we could have kept that header out, did Flamini give Schez a shout to “leave it” it was his for heading out easily. Lack of concentration 🙂 Don’t need Neville to tell us that, bloody pundits.

  18. Ted Drake

Reports in media that Bayern will offer £32m for Özil. If we get Götze in return I would take the deal.

  19. Ronny331

@teddrake. Keep that thought in mind for discussion in November, it’s too early to start talking about selling Ozil now. If at the end of Nov nothings changed I’d be inclined to agree with you.
I hope that Ozil will come alive and start pulling the strings soon.
Wenger wont sell though especially at a loss, it would be admitting defeat.

  20. ergs

We have bellerin and garden who are decent I believe they can step up when required.
Please PSG pay silly money for Ozil of us

  21. Moreno

If wenger plays ozil and ramsay I’ve had it with this man. He needs to give them both rest and since santi was on the bench the entire city game for no good reason he must start in the middle. chambers for debuchy of course and gibs for monreal i reckon, i would also choose arteta ahead of flamini. OX ahead of ozil who must be dropped for this game. Ox will give more of an all around effort around the park for ffs give rosiscky/pod a go at it.

  22. Ronny331

Kondogbia for Ozil, hmmm now there’s an idea.
At what point would Arsene admit defeat and cut his losses with Ozil?
I’m starting to feel that the PL is just too physical for Ozil, he never goes in for tackles or any form of physical encounter. Maybe this just isn’t the league for him?
I’m not an Ozil hater or lover the juries out for me. His apparent lack of effort frustrates me but I do see moments of magic. Come Christmas I think I’ll have made my mind up for sure.
