Blame the Arsenal Players, not Wenger!

Its more the players fault than Wengers! by AH

Now, firstly I just want to point out I am not a Wenger supporter, I am an Arsenal supporter and shall support whoever plays for or manages the club. When the time gets tough for a club, the manager is often criticized and he is seen to be the blame for the failure of a team, when it is in fact all down to the players and how they perform.

I will go as far to say, I think Wenger has lost the winning mentality and he does seem to have been manipulated and turned by certain people in the club into thinking of the club in a business type manner, rather than the idea of winning again, however I wouldn’t sack him because realistically there is no better managers available. Yes the man who took Barcelona to new heights – Pep Guardiola is available but do you honestly think he would want to join us at this time. And before some people say, what about Josef Heynckes? Or Jürgen Klopp? Do you honestly think either would want to leave the likes of Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund to join us half way through the season? No… so despite the way things are going, in my opinion we should stick with Wenger until the end of the season and see the stance that other realistic candidate managers take then.

Back to the reason of why its player performances that have been letting the club down rather than Wenger in recent weeks is clear. Wenger put out a first team squad against League 2 side Bradford City! Never mind about losing on penalties as there is always going to be a 50/50 chance in that no matter who you are playing but the fact we couldn’t beat a team in League 2, – not scoring till the 87th minute, with a first team squad is ridiculous. It’s obvious to me that Wenger WANTED to WIN the Capital One Cup, otherwise why an earth would he play players that were on 50k+ a week?! The players haven’t been performing and we should all recognise that Wenger isn’t completely to blame.

Now I’m not saying he has nothing to do with the struggle, maybe leadership, support and tactics aren’t working in the dressing room. We just don’t know, it’s not possible for us to witness what’s going on in there, however what we can see and take note of is the performance on the pitch and I think we all know that the players haven’t been performing as well as they most definitely should.

If we win a game, the fans act like nothing is wrong with the club even if it’s a bad performance. However if we lose, fans act like the club is in meltdown. It’s true that the manager will have something to do with the failure of a team, but overall it’s the players on the pitch that do what they need to do to win the game. Di Matteo won Chelsea their first Champions League in May 2012 as well as the FA Cup, securing a double winning season. 7 months on the team is still doing relatively well in the league, and good in English competitions, however poor performances from players in the Champions League, got the Italian the sack.

All im saying is, don’t be so quick to jump at Wenger next time we put in a bad performance. It’s the player performances that get managers sacked not the position of the club.

I fully agree. Some of our players just don’t seem bothered. I mean to be getting £50k plus a week and not bothered is just repulsive.

I blame wenger bcs of his selfishness and being stuborn.
I think he is completly deluded , bcs of latest comments that he said everything is fine and we will win everything and players are all fine and so on…

He’s completly lost it this season.

The manager is always the scapegoat, especially in Arsenal’s case. He takes all the heat for the board’s failures and greed.

Also, Jupp Heynckes is retiring anyway :<

The boys need to really come together as a team, fight as a team and show some heart and passion. There’s only 3-4 players with that mentality but the whole team needs it if we’re going to turn this season around.

Wenger should spotted the players who aint cutting already!
He needs to stop trying to prove us wrong by playing them and hoping they turn into the invinsibles bcoz it won’t happen!!
If he was honest to himself and said “ok, gervinho, ramsey, santo just aint good enuff and poldi is not a left winger n arteta needs a rest (buy a DM) and ill have to use walcott as a striker to beat a defence’s off side trap” then he start getting some results! Then sell players he isn’t even using like Djourou,Arshavin n Chamakh and strengthen what we have with Isco Wanyama/Strootman n Zaha then sign Walcott up for another 5 yrs all in Jan Transfer Window and use 433/4231/4132/4312 as and when needed oh and almost forgot get a utility def like M’Biwa and get that forth spot. THEN I will say WENGER IS THE RIGHT MAN

i think Santos trying to swap shirts at half time just about sums up the attitudes of the mojority of the players have seen over the past few seasons.
Just bring my wages in a barrow and i’ll be happy sitting on the sub’s bench counting it.

Playing players out of position at aren’t even good enough in there preferred position. Only one person to blame for that! Manager needs to accept he’s wrong sometimes and stop playing twats like Gervinho.

Wenger choose every player on the squad so he is to blame for the players prefomance he know who he was bringing!

But after all i think arsenal will finish 3 or 4 in the end of season and wenger will get another season like allways……….wenger should go at the end by himself leve the place for gaurdiola……

Completely agree. I myslef wanrted Wenger out, but first: WHO do we bring to replace him…but really, no Pep nonsense.
And second: a coach work ends in the practice pitch, he can just do as far as that, I do believe the players need a psychological coach…

Wengers job to motivate the players, if they ain’t motivated then get rid of them! You don’t stick with players who don’t wanna do a days work, but want a days pay!

Wenger runs the club his way, so he is the one responsible! but our gutless board ain’t got the backbone to tell him his time is up at Arsenal, and leave him to get it right! but after 7-8 years of building a new team, he is way off the mark that he himself has set at Arsenal.

Bradford City’s manager can get the same results Wenger is getting at Arsenal given the job! so what does that say about Mr Wenger!

Wenger makes decides what players to play and what formation to play them in. He also decides what players to buy and how to spend our money which he doesn’t. Therefore its wingers fault. U know he’s lost it after playing Ramsey on the wing when we have ox or even get Ryo back. He needs to go I’m sorry. I hope he does well at psg

The manager must take responsibly but in all fairness the players seriously have to look at themselves. You can blame the manger for not getting the tactics right in the big games but its still the players responsibility to play well. Against Bradford it shouldn’t really matter what tactics we played but the players just didn’t turn up! The blame has to go solely on them! Unfortunately though its too easy to blame the manger and forget that all of the team has been under-performing barring a couple. The problem with Arsenal in my eyes is still the greedy board. Wenger has proved on many occasions not to underestimate him and I’m sure we will come good again this year. However I will re-evaluate things at the end of the season and see where we’re at.

All those players we are mentioning or talking about HAVE BEEN HAND PICKED BY WENGER AND WENGER ONLY…

Some of them have had their contract extended when they were clearly not good enough and others had to wait in order to have discussions… Everything always been calculated, so the talks will or would stall and the player will end up leaving. STRANGELY ENOUGH THEY ALWAYS WERE OUR BEST PLAYERS AND THE ONES WHO MIGHT COMMAND HIGHER WAGES…!!!

Anyway, players performances are always questioned when we are down the table, but the manager is supposed to rally the troops…

It is clear now that Wenger does not have the skills to manage anymore… WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING THE SAME SYSTEM FOR YEARS WITH NO SUCCESS ( EVEN FERGUSON SAID THAT IT WAS EASY TO GUESS ARSENAL TACTICS ).

Substitutions do not make sense, NEVER MAKE SENSE AS A MATTER OF FACT…!!!

PLAYERS ARE SET UP OUT OF POSITIONS BECAUSE THE “DELUDED ONE” DOES NOT WANT TO SPEND.

HE ASKED WALCOTT AND SAGNA TO MAKE SOME FINANCIAL EFFORTS, BUT HE IS THE HIGHEST PAID INDIVIDUAL IN THE CLUB !!!!! WE ARE THE ONLY CLUB WHERE THE MANAGER HAS BETTER WAGES THAN THE PLAYERS ( EXCLUDING REAL MADRID )…!!!

They were talking about a new contract before we were pushed aside by Swansea…!!!

SO THEY WERE READY TO EXTEND HIS CONTRACT DESPITE 7 YEARS OF NOTHING… UNBELIEVABLE !!!

We HAVE TO TAKE SOME OF THE BLAME BECAUSE WE HAVE SUPPORTED THAT BULLOCKS FOR YEARS…

when you buy average players, you get a mediocre team & when u buy proven world class players, you get class; I don’t blame the players, coz they have BIG shoes to fill, I blame the coach who bought mediocre players; Squid, Chamark, Gervinho, Santos, etc hoping to make them invisibles one day. Now he is reaping what he sowed.

Yes to some extent obviously Wenger isn’t out there playing so I do agree.
However would you say it’s the players fault that we put GERVINHO upfront ahead of PODOLSKI? And have Podolski on the wings instead of Arshavin playing. And is it the players fault that RAMSEY actually plays when he should be playing for Bradford!!!!
So both need to take the blame, but mostly the board for running AFC as if it’s just a business and that silent Stan. I want Dein back in!! COYG!!

The problem is that Aw has sold top top players and replaced them with onlt top players although not all are top players just above average and our famed academy has not produced very much at all, that is for AFC. So Aw is to blame for the quality or lack of it he has signed and for not reducing the numbers in the academy to just the very talented and buy the best young players from other clubs, our acedemy just isn’t working, and trying to get lesser players to improve to levels they cannot achieve is the real cause.

Who signed mediocre players and paid them ridiculous salaries, way beyond their values? Who selects them? Who decides on formation? Who consistently plays players out of position? Who coaches them (but not how to defend though)? Our best players have been sold and who bought cheap replacements from bargain basement year after year?

we need proven premier league players in january. Baines is the best left back in the league, and can actually cross, meaning we can get the best out of giroud, and can be a direct replacement for Santos. Fellaini can create chances out of nothing. Demba Ba is one of the top strikers in the league with a £7.5 million buyout clause, plus he has shown interest in joining the club. Michu should be a top priority-a goal scoring midfielder? This guys the top scorer in the league (no goals coming from penalties). Its all about strength in numbers. Every title winning side has a bench that could form a mid table side. None of these signings should amount to more than £12. Eisfield looks more than ready to be promoted. Gervinho needs to be sold, so himself, chamakh and bendter (possibly theo) will free up space for the fowards. Now in terms of splashing the cash, a CDM is desperatly needed (players like podolski are constantly defending to fill the void), but the perfect replacement is a bit far fetched: Yaya Toure. The mans an absolute train, a proven leader and will bring steel to the midfield we have been missing since Viera. Finally, we need a proven superstar i.e. Cavini-seeing a player like that coming to help will surely bring positive morale to the squad, which we desperatly need right now. We balanced out our accounts in the summer (bought only as much as we sold)-the money shouldnt be a problem.

FIRSTLY SANTOS IS A SHIRT COLLECTOR,HE ISHOPING TO MAKE A BIG BUCK WHEN HE RETIRES FROM FOOBALL. YES IT IS TRUE WE CANNO BLAME WENGER ONLY FOR THE FAILURE.PLAYERS MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FOR ANY POOR GAME.THEY NEED TO FIGHT FOR EACH OTHER,CHASING ALL THE TIME.THEY GET PAID A FAT SALARY EVERY WEEK.I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO EARN THIS SORT OF MONEY IN ONE YEAR,AND YET I HAVE TO PAY A COSTLY PRICE FOR MY TICKET EACH GAME. NEXT A PLAYER WHO IS EARNING AVERAGE FIFTY THOUSAND A WEEK DOES NOT KNOW THE SIZE OF THE GOAL POST,MOST OF THE TIME WHENEVER THEY ARE NEAR THE GOAL POST THEY SHOOT THE BALL MILES AWAY FROM THE GOAL POST.WHERE IS THE TRAINING FOR SHOOTING.DONT THEY KNOW WHERE TO KICK THE BALL TO MAKE THE RIGHT LEVEL OF FLYING INTO THE POST.OF COST WENGER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR BUYING CHEAP QUALITY PLAYERS. HE IS HOPING BY BUYING A CHEAP CAR, HE CAN TURN IT TO A ROLLSROYCE AND SELL IT TO MAKE A BIG PROFIT. GERVINHO,, RAMSEY,,WILL NEVER BE TOP PLAYERS. YOU NEED TO BUY A RR TO. FUNCTION AT TOP LEVEL.

Break the team down into specific players –

Back Four – Sagna, Ver – would these players play on City, Unitied or Chelsea? I believe they could. Gibbs and Per would likely start for Spurs, Everton, NewCastle etc. Based on how poorly United’s back four have been perhaps Arsenals back four is actually better on paper. It’s at least a debate.

Mid Field – Wilshere, Cazorla would these players start for Man City, United or Chelsea? I believe they would. Walcott, Arteta, Rosicky would likely start for all the team except Chelsea, City.

Strikers – Podolski, Giroud – These are Spur’s level players at worst case.

My point is this – on paper this team would be third in the league. The mid field alone should be amongst the best in European football with the exception of the two big clubs in Germany and Spain. The players are not performing. Wengers tactics are questionable sometimes – but the real puzzle is why the players aren’t performing. I believe that by January the teams midfield should begin to dominate games again – there is simply too much talent. This team is better then last years on paper. Yes RVP and Song were big losses however adding Cazorla and having Wilshere back should be a bigger boost when you factor in replacements in attack with Giroud and Podolski.

As long as the likes of Gervinho play for Arsenal we will never be in a position to compete. He is utterly hapless. Wenger is a brilliant coach and has to be applauded by trying to run a financially efficient, self supported football club.. and he clearly loves the Arsenal. I just wonder what he sees in some of the players we pay. Who else would even consider paying the likes of squillaci, chamakh, gervinho to play football??? All we need now is Downing added to the squad…

I actually felt nauseated after reading this article. Are you sure you are not a Wengerite? You try so hard to be objective but fail miserably.

Ar$ene is definitely to blame no matter how you try to sugar coat it. As most people have commented in here, he is the one who brought ALL the players into the team and he is also the one who decides the tactics, who to play etc etc. So when a military leader executes a poor strategy, his troops are to blame? That’s just delusional.

A good example is definitely Arshavin and Podolski. Arshavin was placed on the LW by Ar$ene – was often critized and substituted out after 70 mins. Podolski is an exact replica of Arshavin. Placed on the LW and majority of the time substituted out after 70 mins (without contributing much even). Something is obviously not working out there and yet, Ar$ene plays them in that position majority of the time.

You probably tried to formulate an article with the assumption that it is the players fault based on Jack Whilsere’s comments. Do you honestly believe that the players would come out and say “it is the manager’s fault and his tactics are rubbish”!? There would be severe consequences for them if they did!

You happily bring in Di Matteo and mention poor performances from the players got him sacked. That just about sums it up pretty well, doesn’t it? The manager is to blame hence he got sacked INSTEAD of the players!

the bradford game isn’t the right starting 11. Maybe in Wenger’s books, not mine.

arteta was rested, and coquelin played instead.
that’s already 1 major experience gone. As well as the core of our playmaking.
ramsey started ahead of OX instead on the wing. That basically means our right flank is totally nerfed by playing a player who can’t cross out wide.
giroud and walcott was injured, and girvinho get’s the cf position ahead of Podolski. That’s the most baffling decision. Girvinho scores because of walcott. He’s also only a poacher who doesn’t help create chances much. or if he helps it’ll take too long and the defense is all back.
Podolski was also subbed off for chamakh, then plays girvinho on the left.

that’s just taking out 1 useful player out and put another 1 that’s useless in.

Its no excuse to lose to a league 2 club being a PL club, but with a lineup that looks good on paper ONLY before the front 3 is counted…It’s no surprise we struggle with scoring.

if it was Girvinho and ramsey off for ox and rosicky at 60-65mins, push podolski into the centre and Cazorla in the wing for rosicky in the centre, i think this game would’ve been 2-1 sooner.
And yes, i do mean keep coquelin on the field to play as DM instead of Ramsey. He is our much needed physical defensive mid, be it a not very experienced one. If it was Coquelin’s problem, we should c the back 4 suffer more, but we didn’t.

only 1 goal from bradford and it was a nice one that has very little to do with sloppy defending.
our problem is fire power, and we need better wing and strikers.
But the reason y we need a DM even more is because then we can free Arteta to atk, which is just as valuable to us if not more than another top class signing up front.
