Bordeaux boss admits club ‘almost lost’ Arsenal target in January

As has been mentioned many times, the player most linked with Arsenal this January, before we acquired Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, was the young Brazilian Malcom, but Bordeaux refused to accept any offers in the winter transfer window despite rumours saying that the 20 year-old had even handed in a transfer request to persuade the Ligue 1 side to allow him to leave.

Now it has been confirmed by the Bordeaux manager Gus Poyet that Malcom was ‘nearly lost’ in January and they are going to have to prepare for the Brazilian’s exit in the near future. Payet said about Malcom: “He is a special player who can win matches on his own. He is often double-marked because his talent is that special, and in January we were nervous because we almost lost him to the Premier League.

“We must prepare for this because sooner or later he will leave.”

Even Malcom himself recently revealed that he is still keen on a move and told them that he would definitely be considering offers in the summer. He was quoted as saying: “Yes, there was a promise that I will be negotiating in June. I will choose the team, and Bordeaux will let me go.”

This agreement was later denied by Bordeaux’s club president Stephan Martin, although he was happy to admit that Malcom had made no secret of his desire to join a bigger club. The Brazilian is obviously too talented for the French League so should Arsenal be making Malcom one of their first targets for the summer?

    The talent is in England.
    No need to go overseas.
    Just use the academy players.
    A top manager and coaching
    staff is the key.

Sorry OT but aparantly it’s been decreed we must wear red shorts against City at Wembley because they are wearing white shorts! Since when has that been a problem when our shirts are red and their’s are blue?

Bloody right we should, he’s an Alex’s replacement, a top top talent, and if we don’t go for him, then the spuds will be getting a better player than dell Ali. Plus defenders and DM, and we’re off after the prem crown, believe me, fill the holes plus Malcolm and were f….king laughing

I think Malcom was being looked at as an option if we couldn’t get the top one or two targets, a safety net for fans that would explode when Alexis left and no replacement. His agent could be the one making the noise because he knew Malcom was only an alternative. I could be wrong but that is how I see it. Unless he was looked at to fill Walcott absence but then decided to wait til summer and take a deep breathe.
