Breaking News – Arsenal to sign mediocre free-agent striker

Now I am totally confused. Arsene Wenger has made it clear that he is not going to buy a new striker to cover for Olivier Giroud, but now it seems he is in the process of bringing Nikola Zigic to Arsenal.

The Serb’s agent told the Metro: ‘Wenger called me on Tuesday and stressed his desire to sign Zigic.

‘He was offered a contract until the end of the year, with a view to it being extended to 2015 – we’ll see what happens.’

It is probably a simple knee-jerk reaction to Giroud’s injury, but is Zigic going to be of any use whatsoever, except as a target man when we get corners and free-kicks.

The 33 year-old came to the end of his contract with Birmingham last month and most people thought he would retire until the call came from Wenger. It remains to be seen if this will be of any help to the Gunners, but if he suddenly improves on his 7-goal tally (from 35 games) in the Championship last season then we will just have to admit that Wenger is a genius yet again!

    2. Much doubt the truth in this rumour, as, I can not believe Wenger would select him ahead of the options already available.
      He will NOT buy anyone, except MAYBE Remy, but, I do believe he will look to loan a player, just any ones guess who, but certainly a cut above this guy.

    4. @Budd.. this is a case of an agent drawing attention towards its player. I am 100% sure he will NOT join Arsenal. also I am around 90% sure Falcao will go towards Real Madrid before the window closes… abuse me if I am wrong later on.

    5. According to the daily telegraph, falcao is willing to join us on a season long loan….£20m for the year long loan but that does cover all wages and bonuses…..to me that makes sense as he is the type of player that could win us the league and if he likes it here sign him on a permanant basis

    But imagine being a world class and world renown manager and believing you can win the toughest league in the world with a ligue 2 striker with 0 goals leading your line for half the season.
    I dont usually criticise wenger but if he believes our Strike force is good enough then we are in serious trouble.

It is amazing to think that we get practically zero information from any authorised spokesperson at AFC and we are almost wholly dependent on second-hand, fabricated, mischievous, unofficial and re-hashed junk info from the media. It is quite scary when you think about it – knowing absolutely nothing about the workings of this great football club. Problem is people tend to treat this info as gospel and proceed to layer on their own interpretation and things go from bad to worse. Bottom line is we all make it up and fill in the gaps to bolster our own view on any given AFC issue.

    There is no smoke without fire, am sure the agent wasn’t drunk when been interviewed and for sky to publish this, they must be something there. I feel like throwing up!!!

  11. Welbeck wouldn’t even look bad on Arsenal in all honesty, but doubt Man U will sell him after what we did in the Vermaelen-saga.

    I know Welbeck hasn’t been great last year but I think he’s a player that could do wonders for us. Same goes with Bony and Llorente, who were great last year and can provide the hold up play we are used to.

      if you were a player who wanted to join Arsenal would you not wait a few extra weeks?? even if for arguments sake a player wanted to come regardless of CL football or not, do you not think they’d potentially use it as a bartering tool in a potentially 3-5 year contract?

  35. I love seeing the armchair brigade panic over some bullshit rumours and I bet next month Wenger will be praised for sticking to his guns and not panicking. The last thing to do as a large corporation is to panic, chop and change then throw a load of money at your problems. Wenger has an economics degree and won 3 league titles so I think he knows a bit more than people on Justarsenal.

  39. Its not about signing a mediocre(an overstatement) player. It is about sending a message to the World class players out there , this season or the next. It shows club’s intention and ambition and the real star players are a sucker for that. How do you think City made such a monster team starting from the year when they were not even in the CL. Of course they offered sh*t load of money, but there the world class players saw an opportunity of a strong team capable of winning things and so many followed to Etihad. It is like a chain reaction. One embarrassing link and its all woosh. I would not be surprised if United manages to get Vidal and you know what would accelerate the process : Signing of Di Maria for British records transfer. Vidal will see its only one season without CL but the club is ambitious and they are willing to break the bank to build a top top team so why not. There are numerous examples.

    Before this i thought Wenger has realized this too and is now signing top class players only and spending money. But Alas! I was wrong maybe. Imagine us fighting with Liverpool for Sanchez after signing Zigic. I would have bet my house that he would choose Liverpool. This is the truth and it happens. Hope you are getting the drift.

  57. Old habits die hard…Wenger still hasn’t gotten it into his skull yet, even though after signing Ozil we won the F.A cup. Clubs who win, cough up the cash. It’s as simple as that and I am surprised that Wenger would mess around like this by signing this dinosaur. All we really need now is a decent DM and a world class CF and we are title contenders, even CL contenders, but Wenger always makes it tough on himself, his players and especially the fans who have had to sit over the last DECADE with bs like this. I wish Steve Bould would knock some f*cking sense into him really.

  58. Relax this is a AW buy. He won’t cost much, is a perfect cover for Giroud and this way were still in the market for a top class player (who won’t be a striker, i admit..). Looking at this guys stats:
    AIK Bačka Topola: 68 goals in 76 games, Red star Belgrado: 64 goals in 100 games, Birmingham 36 in 148 games, that’s shit again but overall career stats of: 470/241. Giroud: 313/132. I’m just saying that if you give this guy a ball he can reach for, he will put it in. Don’t judge him before he played.
