Brighton v Arsenal Player Ratings – Koscielny was worse than Cech!

We all thought that Arsenal losing twice to Man City was a nightmare but then we have this ignonominious defeat at lowly Brighton. No one is scared of Arsenal any more, and is it any surprise?

For what it is worth here are my player ratings…

Cech 4
He took full responsibility, but was it really all down to him? Maybe the first one… Anyway it looks like its time to retire without getting his 200th clean sheet…

Chambers 4
Makeshift right-back, although that used to be his position. Maybe needs new partners

Koscielny 3
Rubbish! I’m sorry to say that, like Wenger, he has outstayed his welcome….

Mustafi 4
Is it him or is it the whole defence (including keeper!) Will take years to sort this out…

Kolasinac 4
Aggressive but hardly world-class. Could have left us with ten men through stupidity

Wilshere 5
A bit of fight but I’m not sure that’s enough any more. I doubt he’ll be here next season…

Xhaka 5
Was it a shot or a pass? Who cares. Otherwise as bad as usual…

Mkhitaryan 5
Still waiting for the flashes of supposed brilliance…

Iwobi 4
Not doing himself any favours, and why does Wenger keep picking all these losers?

Ozil 4
One great shot, but little else to show for his fantastic wages. Becoming a passenger again. Where is the drive?

Aubameyang 5.5
The goal wins him MOTM and he looks like he is trying hard. Best of a very very bad bunch!

Welbeck 3

  1. Hahaha… The ratings seem spot on

Actually Koscielny’s performances have been bad in the past few years, if you paid attention. Because his partner was the slow Mertesacker, he looked good, because he was more aggressive

But he often broke the offside trap with his lack of awareness and I guess that is why we conceded a lot goals in this season. We need a more commanding, calmer and quicker CD, and it is not easy to be found

  2. One more thing, @Konstantin was absolutely correct about Wenger. He could manage Arsenal vs Brighton from home, because he did not even give his players a single instruction in the field, when they did a mistake

He has been doing this for a long time, very different than the younger managers like Klopp, Conte, Guardiola and Pochettino. As if it was just another day at the office for him

I am afraid his mentality has infected the new players as well. For that attitude, I would give him 5 as the rating

    1. was Wenger and Bould actually at the match or was those two waxworks dummies? why do they seldom get off their seats and give instructions to the players?

      1. Because they know they will not get fired, despite of losing the matches

They just need to come to each match and collect their huge salaries at the end of each month, just like a blue-collar employee

  3. Wenger can’t even get basic motivation to his players… I still remember the match against Bayern Munich around 5-6 years back when we lost 3-1 at Emirates and then in return leg we won by 2-0…. Bayern were through by away goal…. In that match we didn’t have Ozil, We didn’t have Sanchez, we didn’t have Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan but we still managed to fought back and one the leg.. Though we lost the tie but at least we showed some great fight and character…. This all has gone now…. This really hurting thing…

  4. Wenger isnt going anywhere, its the sad truth and we all know this although many of us are praying he does. I cant remember the last time i watched Arsenal and was happy, imagine waking up by 4 or 5am in the mornings to watch our matches, I am currently in Japan and it hurts me so right now I support Madrid I cant stand supporting any other team in England I dont even watch other teams play only Arsenal well I know we arent getting to the Champions league anytime soon so I support Madrid. The Board, Wenger and the players have almost destroyed my Love for football. I read or hear people saying we should respect him like hes a world leader or he discovered the cure for AIDS or maybe hes feeding everyone in Africa, this may wad paid for doing his job unlike we the fans, no one has paid me or any of your for supporting the team all we ask for is good football that brings trophy and that is difficult to get these days from Arsenal. I rest my Case

  5. OT..No Auba on Thursday (unfortunately) Welbz will take his place? God help us! Plus Iwobi will be picked.. Not even sure I want to watch. Seeing loss after loss after loss really depresses me…… I can’t even see the light at the end of the tunnel! We hadn’t lost 4 on the trot since 2002…. Thursday will smash that stat… all we seem to do lately is re-write all these stats for all the wrong reasons ?

    1. its a shame @ Sue, from champions league football to thursdays and the thing is many of us saw this coming, we knew that failing to plan will lead to this but now see, painful thing is he keeps say he can turn it around turn it to where Wenger? we arent sure we can win AC Milan, I checked them on their league table and its not like they are doing very well. I sometimes feel like crying.

      1. If he can turn it around & he’s the man for the job etc surely we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place!!
Even if Milan aren’t doing very well in their league, you can guarantee we’ll make them look like Barcelona, just like we did with Brighton yesterday. I honestly can’t see us winning another game this season….. I have shed a tear here & there…. and probably will again in the family enclosure on Sunday against Watford… such sad times Odein

        1. Welbeck as our striker, how did he become a player? I am a Nigerian but when I look at Iwobi I wonder like how did this guy become an Arsenal player? and the funny thing is we have a lot of such players like that making the first team, am sure Sanchez, Chamberlain and the rest that left will be laughing and thanking their God they left. please are you in the UK and if you are @ Sue can you please visit their trainings and see if these guys train at all cos i feel they dont…

          1. Welbeck and Iwobi were talented players that did not have good guidance

Welbeck is getting older but he still has his chances in Europa League and Iwobi is still very young

            1. Wtf? Your lack of understanding and ridiculous issue with Wenger is damaging your cred. Welbeck was at Utd with Ferguson for years pre AFC. So don’t blame Wenger for Welbs lack of progress. Question the buy, by all means.

    2. No worries, Welbeck would pull-off an Adebayor and Ozil would do a Hleb, as long as our Supreme Leader could use his old 4-4-1-1 (not 4-2-3-1) ala Leicester City

In 2008, we used this roster to trash AC Milan at San Siro (Gattuso played and witnessed our greatness):

      ……………….Almunia
      Sagna . Senderos . Gallas . Clichy
      Eboue . Diaby . Flamini . Fabregas
      …………………Hleb
      ………………Adebayor

And it should be repeated in Thursday for Gattuso:

      ……………….Ospina
      Bellerin . Koscielny . Mustafi . Kolasinac
      Mkhitaryan . Ramsey . Xhaka . Niles
      …………………Ozil
      ………………Welbeck

      1. Looks like AC Milan are on a decent unbeaten run at the moment and judging by GotNoIdea’s last few predictions (e.g. ‘Tonight’s opponent is just Brighton, no match for Arsenal with their 200 million fire power’) I fear the worst.

  6. I rest my Case

  7. Players were embarrassing but Kos and Cech worst.
As much as Xhaka flatters to deceive, it was a pass and an assist. Didn’t think Mikki and Ozil were THAT bad. Chambers?? but Bellerin came on and got beasted. Kala was absolute toilet. Did I miss anyone? Well what can be said about Welbeck and Iwobi …. for goodness sake !!

  8. Who else is beyond the point of getting annoyed and upset any more? Once upon a time I’d be buzzing for each game and really bothered if we didn’t play well or got beat. These days I just expect a pedestrian performance of sideways passing, boring slow football and calamitous defending. Wenger is sucking the enjoyment out of football for me with this new brand of boring monotonous style of play we seem to have adopted!

  9. Might as well give the youngsters a run out, at least the there will be a semblance of an excuse if they lost, and I bet they would at least show an effort.

Like it has been said ability has nothing to do with age or expirience; if you are good enough you are old enough. I also think a lot of Arsenal’s Young players, more than most, regress under the non tutelage from Mr. Wenger.

I also think we need a new Manager who would at least be able to help young players fulfill their potential.

    1. Once we are done with Europe League, and we will be done with it soon enough. I agree that our youngsters should get a chance to show what they can do in the remaining league games.

AMN, Adeleide, Nelson, Nketiah, all have potential, let’s see what they are about. Let’s see if they can step up next hear and fill in from time to time. This year is lost let’s start rebuilding now and see if we have any youth capable of playing in the EPL next year.

  10. i know these ratings dont even mean much when everyone was so terrible, but I’d put Chambers higher than a 4. Or at least his rating should be higher than our entire midfield who are complete garbage. Chambers was nothing special but was at least not as terrible as Bellerin has been all season.
