Can Arsenal now forget Premier League title?

It does not look good for Arsenal Football Club and the fans right now. We always knew it was going to be a huge task going to Stamford Bridge to face a super strength and in form Chelsea, but the 2-0 defeat leaves the Gunners languishing down in 7th place in the Premier League table and a massive nine points off the league leaders. Is there any way that Arsenal can realistically keep our title dreams alive?

Well yes there is, but it is going to take a big turnaround in form for us – and for Jose Mourinho’s team to come unstuck, because at the minute they look like they will walk it. But then again, look at the run that Liverpool went on last season to make everyone think the title was theirs. Then once knocked off their stride they faltered and the same could happen to Chelsea. It does look unlikely at the minute, but a key injury or two could also have a big effect.

What is more important for Arsenal, however, is our own form, because even if the title hopes are fading into the distance, the Gunners still need to get our season back on track. There have been promising signs and the international break comes at a good time so we can start again with key players like Walcott and Ramsey returning.

But one look at the table, with Man United and Tottenham sitting above Arsenal, and you realise that it is vital that we do start well after this fortnight. A home game against Hull City gives us a great opportunity to start again with a bang but we need to build momentum and start winning the games we have been drawing to put pressure on the teams around us.

It is not too late, but it soon will be if we don’t hit the ground running in a couple of weeks.

  1. We are still in the title race but we need to start taking points of the big teams and also we need to stop drawing to teams like spurs…
My team for next game would be….
    Szc
    Bellerin Mert Kos gibbs
    Coq Diaby
    Campbell Cazorla Podolski
    Sanchez

You’ve gotta keep your players happy and rotate the squad and so far stubborn old wenger ain’t doing that so much talent getting wasted on the bench…..

    1. WTF are you smoking???
We are not in any title race, 9 points behind the leaders after 7 games! We are never pulling that back.
When will Arsenal fans stick together and oust Wenger from this club so we can move forward and start rebuilding the team.

      1. it’s too early to count us out of the league. at this point last season, we were on top of the league and liverpool and man city were below us by quite some distance and ended up finishing 1 and 2. out next run of games look very winnable so lets get back to work and tart building some momentum

        1. that is indeed the short-term solution : to win our upcoming games.
but the long-term solution is for AFC to get rid of itself of what has now become its biggest liability: a manager that well past his prime that
          * is ultimately unambituous (not buying the best players),
          * ineffective in transfer windows by not paying enough or having enough backups,
          * passing on players like fabergas & getting kalstrom,
          * unable to motivate his players up for the big games,
          * unable to get the best out of his team by putting them in weird lineups,
          * favoritism to certain players, shuns others (like pod/roz until they lose their skills),
          * inability/unwillingness to adapt formation for big games,

thank you for the memories wenger : all good things must come to an end.

pls leave the organization at end of season, dont be greedy, let AFC have a fresh breath of air.

AFC needs to be brave and go out and get a world-class modern manager like klopp.

          1. 100% agree with you #almostawinner.

Wenger clearly can’t keep up with the changes of modern day football. We won’t win the Premier League or Champions League while he is in charge. I like Arsene, he has done so much for the club and I think there is a roll for him at the club but just not as manager. We need a fresh start and imagine the motivation and energy someone like Jurgen Klopp would bring to the club.

            1. Klopp and Wenger are the same coach. Klopp is younger so you think he is “fresh.” You are wrong. I am a Dortmund fan as well. The similarities are frightening at times. Playing odd lineups that do not work against a teams weakness, stubornness to swap out players. I would love Klopp because he is fun to watch, but to talk like he is a huge upgrade is just dumb

          2. FYI, Klopp either hasn’t been good in Bundesliga yet, not to forget they have lost from small teams. Are BVB fans asking him to drop him also ?

        2. 2 games against top 4 teams = 1 point.
          4 games against top 6 teams = 3 points.

Continuing a pattern in place for several years. Arsenal beat bad teams but cannot beat good teams. You don’t win titles that way. This year, we struggle to beat the bade teams settling for draws instead. We have zero chance at the title. If it were mathematically possible, we would have less than zero chance.

    2. Well for me am no longer pushing blames to the lads, i know our problems is our Manger.
A Good Manger should know his Team , when to play who and the position to play and also so the kinds of players to stay or leave and tactics to beat his opponents, that’s what Wenger isn’t doing, he has the right and money to sell and buy who is needed, but its clear he’s just after funds for the club and himself why the Fans are worried about trophies he is worried about saving funds for the club and himself.
the same players that left Arsenal are making waves in there individual clubs, i still blame no player for leaving Arsenal, until you decide what you want , you wont get it.
      the earlier the better .

  2. Just got back from LUTON, did not watch the whole game, just watched the first 27 minutes when Hazard scored..

Was there any improvement in our play and attitude? All we now pray for is not to get humiliated in big games anymore..

How sad and low have we dropped.. smh

  3. Honestly to me yes! It seems slim now although its still early, but the way chelsea is playing it will be hard to catch up to them! Unless a dramatic slide happens!

  4. The last straw for Wenger, would be for Mourinho to build an invincibles team of his own.. Wenger won’t look so special after that .

  5. We never had a chance. No DM, No CB, No tactics, No motivation, No bite.

Wenger will never win us the EPL again.

When he won the 3 titles, EPL was a 2 horse race, us and United. He also had a super solid defense that he inherited. And Bergkamp who he also inherited.

Wenger did a lot of good things but 3 titles in 18 years and none in 10 is not a great record and it really is past time for a change.

  6. Bob wrote ” a massive none
    points off the league leaders.
Is there any way that Arsenal
can realistically keep our title dreams alive?”
Well “none” points off the lead is a positive start Bob 🙂

  7. Unless Costa or Fabregas or even both get injured pretty soon Chelsea will win the league easily. Their squad is ridiculous, overall what it comes down to is the fact that they have better players. For whatever reason that is, the fact remains. Us utd and Liverpool will fight for 3rd and 4th and it’s going to be pretty close. I just hope we can win our Champions Leage group and win a knockout game, that will be progress – not at the rate we want but progress still.

    1. Fabregas is being overhyped. The key players for Chelsea are Costa and Hazard. Fabregas plays a role and is a cog in their system but they can win without him. He did nothing against Arsenal other than a hand ball missed by the ref and one good pass, which any quality CB pairing would have dealt without trouble.

  8. do fans actually expect us to win the title??

    same shit every year…

fans are still living in denial…….

i will be happy if we can hit our annual target 4th……

not to mention every team is strengthening and improving

    1. Given our defensive woes plus the fact that we fail to score enough goals (or even create adequate chances), 4th place is far from secure. That’s what we should be worried about. 2 wins in 7 games is pathetic!

  9. The results so far are actually
    better than last season.
Our team is better than last season
Our run till feb is quite soft
so yes we can still win the EPL

    1. Agreed. Haven’t faced, what, 7 of the current bottom 10 teams yet? I’ll withhold judgment for another few (i.e 5-6) games until deciding whether this team has the credentials to give it a good run or being anxious about qualifying for next year’s Champions League. We’ll get stronger IMO.

    2. david, if we cant beat the top teams at home and loose to tham away from home we can NEVER win the title. So far we tied with Spurs and City at home and tied with Everton and lost to Chelsea away so it is looking just as bad as the years before,

    3. I agree with you, our team is better this year and we are better positioned.
2-0 vs any good team as visitors is not shameful.
I insist, we need to take points from other games and stop this “big Four”fever.

      1. well, lets F**ing improve the team : get 2 world-class CDMs FFS mr wenger.
u want to win, but u dont want to do what it takes to win.

    4. Chelsea’s run looks just as easy as ours so I don’t expect them to be dropping points whereas I could see us continue this draw mentality.
Also some of the managers of the lower table teams know how to give us trouble, Wenger’s style of football is not strong enough to sustain constant pressure.

    5. No we can’t. Not with our defense. Not without a CDM. Not when the other top teams will score 30 plus goals more than we do. We are not in the same category as Chelsea or Man City and will fall behind United once their players get used to playing together. Anyone who cannot see this needs to take the rose colored glasses off.

    1. i like wilshire and want him to succeed & get better.
      but team comes first.
bumping ozil off center when he did so well v gala – insanity.

what do you get when u have 6 cams, 1 winger , 1.5 strikers and 0 CDMs ?

  10. Stop buying into the hype that Chelsea are unbeatable. Chelsea had 2 shots on target including a penalty. The second was the deflected cross off Flamini which does not count as a Chelsea shot. You could argue that the third was a result of Arsenal sending every man and his dog forward. It was one moment which really decided this match and the lack of a threat from Arsenal was matched by the lack of a threat from Chelsea. Arsenal needed someone to do something special as Hazard did for Chelsea, we are talking about small margins. Add to that the fact that Arsenal were missing their star player in Aaron Ramsey. I’m not saying we should be happy with what happened and a proper midfield enforcer is definitely required but people are too keen to jump on the bandwagon of turning a narrow defeat into a humiliation.

      1. yeah, that Cesc hand and all those excuses.
We should fire thestarting XI for thathand….excuses ha, pppfff.

    1. Chelsea didn’t attack because they didn’t need to attack. I am sure that if Hazard hadn’t scored, they would have created more chances and “shots on target” till they eventually scored.

      1. Exactly. And Chelsea won most of the 50/50 balls in the middle of the pitch. We got out muscled by the likes of Oscar.

  11. i felt we actually matched Chelsea most of the game. our midlfield was unusually strong beside the last 15min where we got back to our usual bad self.

we could have also scored 2 goals if sanchez and whilshere first touches in the in the box were not heavy in the first half. it was two huge chances. they were alone with just the keeper to beat.

the only difference in this game was the individual genious of hazard and fabregas. they showed up the right moment.

Player wise i retain quite a lot positives but coaching wise… well still the same. Wenger does not have much clue at the moment. why take off cazorla who’s having a much better game than Ozil. why?

  12. As I have been saying since August, Arsenal were never in the title race. Chelsea and Man City are each 15 points better than we are. Chelsea is probably 20 points better. We are in the race with Liverpool and a few others for 4th place. Man U has probably bought themselves enough goals to secure third (and will buy defenders in January).

Arsenal dropped any pretense of being in the title race when Wenger failed to buy a CDM and another CB.

  13. I knew before we were not going to win a negative tactical side from arsene prospective would have ensured our safety by playing Coquelin, the first goal could have been avoided had Wenger not asked his team to be static and with such precision allowed hazard to run at us.
mistakes by our team and other scenarios
    1>NO FUNCTIONING CDM
2>WILSHERE’S FIRST TOUCH WAS BAD SHOULD HAVE CONTROLLED IT.
    3>CHELSEA’S GARY CAHILL WAS LUCKY
4>THEY COMFORTABLY WERE QUICK OUT OF THIER BLOCKS AND AGAIN INJURIES ARE KILLING US
    5>ARSENAL ARE BETTER WITHOUT ARTETA
6>SIGNING A DEFENSIVE MID AND A CB IS IMPORTANT FOR THE TEAM
7>WHEN YOU HAVE A SUMMER TO PREPARE FOR THE SEASON KICKOFF YOU DON’T WASTE IT BY NOT SOLVING YOUR PROBLEMS
8>ARSENE WENGER WILL BE IN THE SHADOW OF MOURINHO ALL TIMES.

  15. I’m getting tired of all the “we played well” comments. The game plan seemed to be “don’t lose by 6 goals” so we succeeded I guess. We can either play defense or we can attack but we can’t seem to do both in the same game. And truth be told the defense was only “good” if you ignore several serious defensive lapses, two of which resulted in Chelsea goals.

The reality is that we were completely outclassed by a superior side that was content to protect a 1-0 lead because we were never a threat to score. If Chelsea had need to score 4 goals, they would have scored four. For most of the game, we need to score only 1 and could not even get a shot on target.

  16. We were never in any title race, we’re just in 4th place battle which now seems to be far out of our reach with 2 wins in 7 games.
The only salvation for us is for Wenger to carry his raincoat back to france ( or where ever he feels there could be a need for a business manager) and allow guys whose thirst for Glory will match MORONho’s am-the-best mentality.
About chealshit winning streak being similar to that of Looserpool last season, I disagree. Chealshit are no Looserpool, Hazard is no Sterling, fabrigas is no Gerrard (although Costa is Suarez to some extent); so, u don’t expect Chealshit to drop to third position.

  17. Some fans here a better off supporting Chelsea. Stop ignoring this facts:
    1. We played a good game. Most teams in the epl would been dismantled by our play.
    2. Chelsea is strong team. they are yet to lose to any team, the current champions included.
    3. Arsenal played better in this much than in the last 6.
    4. Our midfield was better, lots of improvement from Flamini.
5.Arsenal wil have a big say on the title race.

  18. Wenger still believes that because you have most of the ball possession, you are supposed to win the game…lol 🙂
Just shows how backward and not in tune the guy is.
64yo and stubborn, what did you expect.
He still believes Diaby is a “football player” and that Wilshere could be Arsenal and England number 10 (No he cannot. He is just a fluke and nothing more… He will give very few good performance and even when he plays well the team does not function).

  19. We were never in a title race……. Instead we were in a race for Survival (4th). I don’t care if wenger buys 10 beast like CDM, 5 Top strikers or even if he brings back the invincibles… He must go now or at the End of his f**king contract.
