Can Barca REALLY stop Arsenal poaching `new Fabregas`?

After Arsenal apparently turned down the chance to sign the real Cesc Fabregas this summer, leaving our former captain free to join Premier League rivals Chelsea, it seems strange to hear that we are now trying to sign a young player being dubbed the new Fabregas, as reported by Metro.

But 19-year old Sergi Samper is one for the future and Arsene Wenger is ready to meet his release clause of around Ā£10 million to sign him from Barcelona. Another report by Talksport suggests that Arsenal were trying to sign the young Spaniard this summer but the new manager of Barcelona, Luis Enrique, persuaded him to stay at the Nou Camp as he was firmly in his plans.

But with Barca not able to sign anyone for the next two years, they spent heavily this summer and Samper could well think again in January if he has not had many playing opportunities. And the way Arsenal made the player he is being compared to into a star after bringing him from La Masia academy, could just make his mind up.

At the moment, the youngster is playing as a defensive midfielder in the Barca B team, so Iā€™m sure that Wenger will be keeping a close eye on him and whether he gets a chance in the first team.

  1. Metro and Talksport?
I wish some football fan would sue the company for compensation due to the amount of fabricated stories they make up.
That person would be doing the football fraternity an unmeasurable favour.

  2. From what I have seen from the guy, he plays more in a role like Arteta, Modric and Kroos (Bayern) do/did at their respective clubs. Seems to me like he’s a holding midfielder, but Spanish prospects in general make me wonder if they have the phyiscal potential to be good Premier League midfielders. His passing ability and creativity seem very good although a more physical talent would appeal more to our requirements (needs) in my opinion.

Don’t punch Bambi you might kill him, or have you been listening to the sex pistols again šŸ™‚

  3. Well we’ll see what happens with this one even thought I would mind a new promising DM, would go at the same time for a proven (Carvalho) for the ned transfer window along with a CB!!On another note I’m starting to think that Welbeck could be the best signing of our summer even thought I had mixed feelings at first; but that will all depend on the next 4 months and how well he improves his finishing touch close too or in the box (Wenger and his trust in him will be as well) and increasing is G/P average!! After seeing a couple of games where he featured and also the one for england he’s got it all for me…1)He has the physical ability to offer the kind of game that our Giroud offers (back to the net: deflecting, relaying passes and 1-2 touches) but also 2) Pace, mobility and technical agility to offer so much more: dribbling past opponents(creating space) ,running/turning over defences either to lay down the killing pass to a better placed player or finishing a through ball from our over talented midfield and all that with speed and 3)Tactical awareness, willingness to defend players if asked (like the game Man U-Real Madrid in the CL) and could provide support not only in the air on corners!!He also offers options to interchange with the front 3!!We have good striking options(Walcott,Campbell,Sanchez,Welbeck,Chamberlaine) if he makes his case and give food for thought for Le Prof when Giroud comes back!! He just need to be more selfish and understand that he’s the one who finishes!!

  4. If it’s a true report, knowing barcelona they will try and hamper this especially that it is said that samper is a future prospect replacement for xavi!

  5. The FA has announced that the fine/money paid by Man City (Ā£50millions) for breaching the fair play will be redistributed amongst the teams that qualified for European competitions last season Those teams are Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs (sh*t), Swansea and Wigan.

  6. Stop looking for the new Fabregas. We are overloaded in midfield and buy players we really need at the moment.

    1. Hey there mate..
      How’s the bread knife…?
And life in general treating you..
Recovered from the trauma of deadline day..?

      1. all is good thanks mate and you ?

as for the transfer deadline day its just shows how little ambition wenger hs because if he was serious about going all out for the premier league he would have added a CDM and CB as well as Wellbeck

        1. Yes not bad mate thanks..

Transfer deadline day seems to be split 50/50..
Some actually thinking we’ve added quality and improved on last season and others thinking we’ve stood still while our rivals around us have strengthened ..?
I wrote an article called the nutty prof.. On Friday – and I’m still seething at Wengers lack of desire.. But I won’t go over old ground as I knew Wenger wouldn’t change his spots..
Sad we won’t be challenging much of the league or champions league again.. What realistically can we hope for other than a similair season to last..?? Top 4 at a push and last 16 in CL ..?

          1. agree with you top 4 (4th) and with a lucky draw maybe a cup win ? as for the CL last 16,this is poor with all the money the club has but with AW in charge it will not change which is such a shame but hey who knows so for now I will support AW and judge him in May

            1. Agree to support..
And in a strange sense of irony..
Wellbecks signing could be a master stroke after manure let him go.. As I see manure to be our biggest challengers for 4th …
. Wellbeck is a million times better than what we currently have up top and although he’s not cavani or Suarez.. It’s with optimism I see our season panning out..
The problem is the CDM and defence like you said.. We can’t realistically beat Chelsea or Bayern with Wenger not rectifying these holes but we will certainly cause more problems with wellbeck and the soon to be Walcott returning..
I certainly think we can beat city on Saturday..
However one thing is thinking and hoping as a fan.. But if the players don’t believe it then we won’t..

                1. I believe you can’t get a feel for the league until about 9-10 games in,
so we must be patient and allow the team to gel then we will see where we are at..
In all honesty, we peaked too soon last year and fell away after January.. This year the fixtures don’t seem too difficult ALL AT ONCE like last February/march we had too many injuries coupled with horrendous fixtures against top teams game after game..so who knows with a bit of luck (and the odd player added ) and we could be there..or there.. Abouts..?

            2. How have we stood still
              Is welbeck better than bendtner?Yes

              Is Sanchez better than park/ryo?yes

Is chambers any worse than having an under performing vermaelen? Not really

Is debuchy any worse than Sagna? No, he is arguably better and approaching his peak were as Sagna is past his best.

Has monreal been any worse than Sagna as emergency centre back? No

Is ospina better than fabianski ? Most likely

Also Wiltshire, monreal already look better than last season.diaby and Walcott should play more and podolski and Rosicky have a point to prove.

Verdict; we have improved allot offensively and we have kept a good defense with arguably more pace so we should be able to react better to opposing counter ATt whilst posing a significant threat the other direction

#a faster, more dynamic arsenal for this season
