Can Danny Welbeck improve if played more regularly in Arsenal’s starting line-up?

We all know that Danny Welbeck is really Arsenal’s third-choice striker behind Aubameyang and Laczette, but with Lacazette out injured Arsene Wenger had no choice but to play Danny Welbeck in the Europa League game against Ostersund.

We won the game 3-0 but Welbeck did not have one of his best games in an Arsenal shirt but we have to take into account that the game was played on a plastic pitch and was also in minus degrees on the thermometer. Another factor is that Welbeck has hardly had any competitive minutes on the field since he went out injured after scoring lots of goals in first couple of months of the season. Could he possibly get back to that level?

Wenger was asked if he would be playing again against Ostersund in the second leg, and the Boss replied: “Yes Danny Welbeck will play on Thursday.

“He’s getting sharper every day. In the last week he has moved forward and I think the game at Ostersunds has done him good. Since then, I believe that physically he is getting better.”

To be fair, he was in the best form of his life earlier in the year, keeping even Giroud out of the team, but if he really did get his form back do you think he could actually challenge Auba or Lacazettefor a starting spot?

  1. In answer to your last question it is an emphatic no

I think Welbeck is another who needs to move on to “save” his career.

As it is we have 8 players competing for the “front 5” positions. Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Wilshire, Iwobi and Welbeck

Yet we have 13 players competing for the “back 5” positions, giving the squad a somewhat unbalanced look. Mustafi Koscielny Mertesacker Holding Chambers Mavropanos Kolasinac Monreal Bellerin xhaka elneny Niles and cazorla. I think we are all certain that cazorla will be joining Mertesacker in retiring this summer and it is looking increasingly likely wilshire will be departing. I cannot see any of the loan players forcing their way back in with the exception may be of martinez.

Welbeck looks quite certain to be in any match day 18 at least until the likes of Nelson or nketiah really step up. If everyone is fit welbeck would only be getting minutes as part of the rotation process.

I would say that at least 2 of Chambers, Holding and Mavropanos will be sent out on loan this summer and I expect a top drawer right back will be brought in to challenge bellerin or indeed 2 if the latter moves on? The defensive midfield options are currently poor. So I would probably turn Niles into a right back and replace elneny, xhaka and cazorla with 2 strong options.

  2. I should not even respond to this article as it is a moronic dribble of nonsense.

NO NO AND AND NO. Not in a million years can you put Welbeck in the same class as AUba or Lacazette

wenger;s love for second rate obedient servants has been demonstrated in many sub-par
    acquisitions: Wwelbeck/Walcott/ etc

  3. We have Adeleide and Iwobi on the left who should be given chances in the league as we have nothing to play for. On the right we should bring in Nelson from time to time as well, and maybe try Nketiah up front in some games, just to see if they can be relied upon next season.
For me Auba/Mkhi/Ozil/Laca can not play together, unless we use Laca as a left Winger. And for difficult games we should use a DM instead of Mesut when and if Wenger finally buys one
Wellbeck as a fast left winger may work – but we shouldn’t offer him a contract until we see if he works or not.

  4. Never has he scored more than 10 goals in a season. Has he ever scored concecutively in three matches? I think not.

He’s average AT BEST, yet he will be here years to come. I don’t understand how he gets the nod ahead of Nketiah. The latter one at least could become something.

  5. He is extremy poor finisher and always fuff .. His postining is also poor. May be a lon move or a guidence from legendary players like Henry may help

  6. I cannot see him as being above our two £50 million plus strikers and the emergence of Nketiah will push him further away.
There is a clear effort being made to move average players such as Walcott and Coquelin out of Arsenal and I see the same happening to Welbeck as we rebuild for the future.
So I don’t think he will even get a real opportunity to improve…

  7. Danny Welbeck needs to follow the steps of some other english players departing from Arsenal asap. Ramsey next, Wilshere we should keep forever.
