Can Wenger get the trust back after Arsenal fans vote with their feet?

Despite Arsenal’s excellent win at AC Milan in midweek, the Emirates Stadium was yet again half empty when the Gunners took on Watford today, and Wenger thinks that he understands the fans frustration after our awful erun of defeats, and the only way he can get the fans back onside is to do his best to get his team to start getting the results again.

“Yes, of course I worry because I want our fans to be behind the team and happy,” Wenger said.

“But after what happened in that week, it’s a bit understanding – you know – we are in a job, we have to get the fans on our side and do absolutely everything to do it, to achieve it; that’s what you want to do after that.”

Wenger said he was aware that there was a “lot of negativity” before the game in Italy. “It’s like rain in England – it’s easy to get,” he said. “I focus on my job and I think I’ve shown in 22 years that I can do that, that I respect everybody’s opinion and do my job with total commitment.”

“It was difficult but overall it gets us out a little bit of that negative spiral we were in.”

Wenger suggested it was the weather that was partly responsible for the empty seats in the last home game against City, but there was no way Wenger could use that excuse again today, as Gary Neville sarcastically tweeted when he saw today’s crowd. He said:”Must be -4 and snowing again at the Emirates.”

So even if wenger wins every single game until the end of the season, will the crowds come back, and show the respect for our manager of 22 years? Let’s see what the crowd is like on Thursday and our next home League match, shall we?

  1. best way to look at it is like this in my beautiful eyes
    wasted under wenger
mesut ozil turns 30 this year
    pierre turns 29 this year
    mkhi is 29

lacazette kola an xhaka left there teams as amongst the best in there leagues
im most disappointed in xhaka cos he was courted by bayern juve – he really was brilliant in germany
holding was excellent when he got here
chambers at middlesborough was there best player

we are saying mediocre players- no not at all

    they need COACHING
yes we need a dm (2 prob) have done forever
    an probably a experienced cf
    so much wasted talent!!

pep klopp my gosh imagine allegri with this mob

    1. Totally agree……..Arsenal needs a new direction…….without Wenger……..the team has enough talent to challenge for any title………and that can only happen with a new younger and dynamic coach……..

    2. The only to get the fans back to the Emirates is for Wenger to leave because he is the reason the players are underperforming.

  2. The crowds won’t come back if we win a handful of games between now & the end of the season. Almost everyone wants a new manager, fresh ideas. Not dejavu season after season. This season has been by far the worst under Wenger… it’s time for change

    1. Absolutely 100% correct Sue, couldn’t use the excuse of the weather at today’s game. The fans stayed away because of Wenger, people are fed up with this man in charge. 90% fans now want him out and the board should take notice, Could possibly wipe the season ticket waiting list in one go if they don’t get him out.

      1. Mother’s Day? Just asking if it may have had some influence on the gate. Likely to get slagged off though ?

  3. Two straight wins and two straight clean sheets coming up on the heels of four straight looses….this NEW coach must be a genius for borrowing players from Man City and coming with ingenuous playing styles. Oh..it’s because AW is already on the way out. Oh no…..we prefer Sam Allardyce, David Moyes, Alan Pardew, Donald Kulman…..Poch…….(all zero trophies in how many years now?) Celebrate what you have and be objective with criticism. Go out there ans support your team.

    1. I , for one , have not a clue what you are talking about, other than support your team, in your final sentence only. I actually support Arsenal Football CLUB, which means far more than just the present feeble minded team. To cure the CLUB of its cancer, which is Wenger, I hope we lose every game til he is sacked. The CLUB and its future is FAR more important than just a bunch of half tryers who play currently. WE NEED A NEW MANAGER LIKE WE ALL NEED AIR, TO SURVIVE, AND IT IS VITAL WE GET WENGER OUT ASAP.

    2. So you think Wenger’s turned it around do yer, you a good judge, you’ve even managed to mix Ronald Koeman up with Ronald Macdonald.

    1. Feel free to give to Spurs…..zero trophies regardless….cant remember the last time they played a final. And we are still counting years

    2. I am sure you know we do not have a NEW coach anywhere. If we had changed coach in the last two weeks…and got exact same results with same line-up….we would have been deaf by now hearing things like “That’s the coach we have been waiting for; instant impact; great tactics; excellent players motivation skills; the players are happy now; they weren’t playing for AW” blah….blah….blah….Sorry we havent changed coach…they are playing for AW. Some fans need to move over to the other side of trophiless London…lol!

      1. What’s with the lol, you think that’s funny? No, it’s all pointless you are saying. You think sufffering for 10 years will be erased coz of winning 2 straight matches, remember we coming from losing 4 straight matches, your master is too old to do anything. Choosing a lineup and let them play the arsenal way shouldn’t be manager’s only job, he need to properly train them, motivate them, change tactics in the middle of games, standing up, shout and not just sitting down folding his hands when things aren’t going our way, so many alerts to change this pensionable gentleman than your st-***d two reasons as to why he’s better at Arsenal and we’ll miss him when he’s gone, NO

  4. I refuse to respect someone who doesn’t respect me! Respect has to earned, which Wenger did, but he has now destroyed it all, just because he’s too selfish, and arrogant, to walk away.

    1. 1. I am totally confused by this post.I am totally confused by a number of posts following today’s game. Are these people really suggesting we have now turned into a team that will be challenging for the highest honours (next season of course) due to us winning back to back games that we should have won anyway? We beat an AC Milan that are a shadow of the great sides that dominated European Football in the late 80’s and early 90’s.They are the Watford of the SeriaA.We then beat a Watford side who are the equivalent of an AC Milan of the Premiership.Get real for gods sake. Sixth Place and a Europa Cup won is not in my mind a successful season.Surely our expectation levels are better than this are they not?

        1. I agree Phil. Also I find it very disrespectful for posters to come on here with a throw away line “that they should support another club” to long term Arsenal fans/supporters, who criticize the current regime.
All of us hopefully want success for the Arsenal. As much it is appropriate to praise the team and manager for performances such as the win against Watford, it is also appropriate to comment on shortcomings in this and other performances. Our away record and goals conceded this season are not what’s expected from this club. The league table doesn’t lie.

      2. You have seen the game ? Average performance against an average team nice to hear from a new AKB though

  5. Fool me once, shame on you
Fool me twice, shame on me
    Fool me 13 times, ????

Seriously, Wenger is not a good enough manager.
He is not as good as Mourinho, Klopp, Guardiola, Conte, Pochettino. That’s why we are 6th place.

    Wengers faults
    1. Poor signings
    2. Cant recognise Top Quality (ie Iwobi, Xhaka, Eleny)
    3. Never completes a team (we still need a defensive midfielder and we finally got top striker this season). Now we need DM, 2 CB, RB minimum
    4. Poor starting lineups and match tactics
    5. Too loyal to average players
    6. Can’t motivate players
    7. Doesn’t know how to create a PL or CL winning team (relates to number 3)
    8. Very low expectations or ambition ie Top 4 trophy
    9. Hasn’t won CL ever and hasn’t won PL in 14 years.
    10. Has never actually built a top defense from scratch. Inherited a Top defense when he arrived. Viera came the same summer.

HE is a terrible manager actually. He was lucky to come here with Top players and a solid defense. He doesn’t know how to build a top team and won’t do it as long as he is here

    WENGER MUST GO!

      1. And he inherited DENNIS BERGKAMP. In all my years following Arsenal, without doubt, our greatest player.

        1. Kenny Rolfe,
When you say wenger inherited D.B. please enlighten those that may not know, how long the magician was at Arsenal before Wenger took over?
Also how many games it took him to score his first goals for Arsenal?
Finally, who the greatest player (in my lifetime as well) rates as the best manager he has ever played under?
When you have done that, the Wenger / Bergkamp history lesson will be complete.

    1. im suprise that

Cole, Campbell, Kolo and Lauren was inherited

Things people say just to get a new manager a new face….

      1. John, they players you name came to Arsenal when Arsene Wenger had David Dein as his right hand man. The departure of David Dein has been greatly detrimental to Arsene Wenger and Arsenal. Those players also came into the defensive culture instilled by Tony Adams, Steve Bould, Martin Keown etc. Unfortunately this defensive culture has been watered down, by the loss of physicality and lack of coaching over the last 12 years.

      2. Nobody can argue with the Defence we had in 2003-5/6.Nobody can argue with the defenders Wenger inherited Dixon Adams Bould Keown Winterburn. What we can do is seriously question Wengers subsequent signings in which there is NO argument.

  6. When things go right, another person is credited. But when things go wrong, it is always Arsene Wenger even if he left two years ago (smh).
