Cazorla confirms Arsenal stay is wanted but no contract on table

Santi Cazorla has confirmed that he is hoping to continue his Arsenal career beyond the summer, but has not been offered a contract as of yet.

The midfielder has proven to be a vastly consistent performer in recent years, and is one of the first names on the team-sheet so far this season.

Cazorla is into the final year of his contract, and he has now revealed that he has not been offered an extension as of yet.

He said: ‘No, I don’t have any news from the club regarding a new contract.

‘My focus now is on playing and to be able to enjoy playing football following a season when I had lots of injury problems.

‘I hope I can stay here and continue to play. I am happy here. What a player wants is to play and to feel important.

‘Fortunately, since I arrived at Arsenal, I’ve had the confidence of the coach and of my teammates. I’ve played a lot of minutes. In the end, that is what every player wants.’

The Spanish international turns 32 in December, and our club are not big on offering long-term deals to people of that age (excluding goalkeepers), but Cazorla is already proving that he is still at the top of his game.

I would reward our first-team star with a two-year deal without issue, despite the wealth of options at our disposal, with him proving he deserves to be a first-team regular with a number of impressive performers.

I find it hard to believe that Santi will not be offered a new deal, unless a long-term injury disrupts his playing career during the current campaign.

Does Wenger’s lack of a new deal interfere with a potential deal for Cazorla? Will Santi be able to hold onto his first-team spot for the remainder of the season?

  1. Santi in his final year of his contract and no contacts made for a new deal? What the hell. He is the most technically gifted player in the Arsenal team and I think a 2-3 years contract should be given to him.

    1. I know, right?
Cazorla is awesome. It would be crazy to let him go especially if he wants to stay.

  2. I can understand the club’s hesitation. As they made mistakes with other players that have suffered injuries arteta, rosicky and most notably diaby.

But Santi is slightly different he is usually a starting x1 player, So I agree with everyone else give him a new 2 year deal before the January window when he can sign a contract with a foreign side. I am almost every team in Spain, all in Italy and all in France will have their eyes on this one right now.

  3. Wenger gave Arteta and Flamini an extra one year contract even though we knew they would hardly play at all, so giving a fit Cazorla an extra year should be a no-brainer. He has vast experience to pass on even if he just helps train our youngsters

  4. Wenger will definitely agree a new deal with Santi. There is no rush as both sides know it is a certainty. And when he hangs up his boots I agree he should be passing on his skills as a trainer.

  5. AW might slip about this contract thing a bit but he’s not blind. We still need Santi until someone younger and BETTER replace him. Moreover, my opinion, Santi deserve to be legend at Arsenal. I think that’s all said.

    1. I second that. One of my favourite players mainly because he seem to be one down to earth lad and he is humble. Just look at our training pics, he’s always laughing with his teammates. Great guy
