Confident Iwobi expects to be fit for Atletico rematch

Alex Iwobi was left on the bench for Arsenal-s first Europa League semi-final against Atletico but despite picking up a hamstring injury against Man united on Sunday, the Nigerian international believes he will be fit and ready to play on Thursday. He said: “I am still being assessed but to me it is good and I will be okay,”

“We will have to wait and see but I believe I will be okay and fit.”

It was unfortunate that Mhkitaryan also suffered a recurrence of his injury on Sunday as well, so there is still a chance that Iwobi could play as the boss will have to choose between Wilshere, Maitland-Niles, Xhaka and Iwobi for the midfield spots alongside Aaron Ramsey. On Sunday’s form I would probably choose AM-N and Iwobi, but the Boss has never listened to me!

If Iwobi does get picked he thinks that the Gunners are very confident we can get a result in Madrid, especially with the added incentive of it being wenger’s last chance of a trophy with Arsenal. He said: “We are really motivated – especially by what he has done for the club,”

“We are trying to make him end the season on a high.

“And not just for him but for ourselves as well so we are doing our best to get the result.

“We are very confident. We were unfortunate not to get the result we wanted against them in the first leg but we are very confident and believe we can go to the final.”

It’s good that the players are in fine fettle and confident mood. We certainly bossed Atletico at the Emirates but in Spain with eleven men on the field it could be a very different game. But then again, we have nothing to lose…

  1. Get Julian Nagelsmann and let the future of arsenal football club be blessed….please Gazidis…i plead with the arsenal board to this for arsenal fans

    1. Nobody from the board is gonna hear you even though you post this on every thread

Nagelsmann is unproven, never worked at Arsenal and never got major trophies

I prefer proven managers like Allegri and Enrique, or the one has worked at Arsenal like Arteta

  2. I don’t think Iwobi would be chosen ahead of Ozil and Wilshere for the upcoming match at Wanda Metropolitano

If he does get selected, I will be happy for him, because he usually works harder than those two

Arsenal need players that can pressurize the opponents, to force Atletico to make mistakes

  3. U ain’t playing thursday son . Sit down
Be grateful u will get another shot with the next manager .

If iwobi gets gametime in our biggest game in years – then what’s the point ……

    OF A.N.Y.T.H.I.N.G

  4. Iwobi just like Ozil slows our counters n thats the tool we need away. I would put Mcky at number 10 bcos we need fast movement of the ball n penetration thro the middle, silly dribles cant do when atlet can regroup so fast. Mav and Niles should work, drop this issue about experience Monaco does it with youngsters, just do the right motivation

  5. I believe we can get this result away with Mhiki present. We desperately need his penetration. With a solid defensive display and Laca on form we could score 2 goals away

    1. Perfect
That’s all, the defence is just the problem
      We will outplay them again
      But that defence…
Imagine the number of Errors Mustafi and Kos would have committed against Man Utd with that amount of attack
