Could Alexis’ wage demands favour a move to Man City?

With the FA Cup final just around the corner, Arsenal’s transfer saga surrounding Alexis Sanchez has taken a surprise turn, or so it seems. According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Bayern Munich, who are supposedly leading the race to sign Sanchez, do not want to meet the player’s £300,000-a-week wage demands and talks are understood to be at a standstill between the two parties.

Reports in Germany claimed that the Chilean’s agent Fernando Felicevich touched down in Bavaria to negotiate personal terms after Arsenal reportedly accepted a bid in the region of £50 million for Sanchez, despite the player having only a year left to run on his contract at the Emirates. But while earlier reports claimed that personal terms had been agreed, the latest news is that no agreement is in place, with reliable German outlet Bild also claiming that Bayern will not meet Sanchez’s wage demands.

For me, the news is somewhat reliable considering that the German giants are not known for offering players enormous wages. The highest-paid players are Ribery, Robben, Vidal and Lewandowski, who all earn around £150,000-a-week and although the Bavarians are prepared to make the Gunners’ talisman their highest-paid player, it appears as though £300,000-a-week would be too much.

In my opinion, the biggest concern here is whether the situation will play into the hands of Manchester City. It is no secret that there is interest, with Pep Guardiola even admitting not so long ago that he would be interested in signing Sanchez for the Sky Blues. Another worrying aspect is that Guardiola and Sanchez have history, considering that it was Guardiola that bought the diminutive forward for Barcelona, with the player being a regular inclusion in the Blagrana’s starting-eleven during Pep’s tenure.

If no club outside of England are willing to meet the wage demands of Alexis and the club are not prepared to lose him on a free transfer next summer, there is no denying that there is a distinct possibility that Alexis Sanchez may be the latest of a long list of Arsenal stars who have traded the red half of North London for the blue half of Manchester.

  1. Do Robben, Lewandowski, & Ribery earn around £150k/week? That’s quite reasonable for players of their quality these days. And Bayern Munich ticket prices are incredibly low compared to English teams, especially Arsenal.

That’s really impressive. Especially when you consider players expecting £200k and £300k per week at clubs like Arsenal and Man Utd, neither of which are anywhere near Bayern’s standard at the moment.

Although (Unfortunately) I expect Man Poo to be much better next season. Same goes for Man Sh*tty. If we want Champion’s League next season we’ll need Spuds to have an injury crisis, Liverfool to have some kind of melt-down (Which is possible because I still think that Klopp is over-rated), and pray that Everton don’t overtake us using their newfound money and quality manager.

    1. Yeah, man, we’re in for a rough ride. It really seems that decades in front of us will be filled with mid table finishes. I don’t see Arsenal crawling back up to the top four anytime soon. So, next season we’ll be sixth most probably, season after it seventh, once Everton gets progressively better. I reckon that the likes of Claude from AFTV won’t even live to see another St. Totteringham’s day. The downfall is imminent and it will be a painful one. We’re slowly becoming the same as all other kroenke-owned clubs.
And to think we were once the invincibles. RIP Arsenal.

    2. Cos the Arsenal team don’t have a poor record when it comes to injuries I guess….Every season you lose your best players to injury and while you haven’t found a way to solve that you wishing another club the same curse…mind you they were able to rush back their top players to full fitness before their supposed comeback dates…what do you think would have happened to Arsenal if Sanchez spent the same time as Harry Kane on the sidelines in the 2016-17 season…We have always been praying that others have poor performances so that we can scoop the “top four trophy” every season but we fail to solve the major problem which will make us strong contenders for both domestic and European Cups.

  2. All these man city players being released concerns me, I’ve a feeling they’re going to invest heavier than United after a disappointing league challenge… this window is do or die for us we MUST break the 100m barrier that is just to play catch up to the leagues top 7 lol Everton going to be spending big too apparently to convince players of their ambitions

    1. That may concern you but I bet Wenger is rubbing his hands whilst licking his lips, at the thought of all those freebies available from City.?

  3. It wouldn’t be the first time that we sold players to Man City, in fact their money went a long way in paying off some of that Emirates debt lol.
And I wouldn’t be surprised if Arsenal sold both Sanchez and Bellerin to City during this summers transfer window.

    1. I personally think, he would rather join Chelsea over City. Its in london, he doesn’t have to take his family and move, he craves ambition he will get it at Chelsea. And I also feel Chelsea Fast Counter Attacks will suit him better. He would rather wana play alongside Hazard and co then Sterling and co. Any day.

  4. I don’t think we will be offering anywhere near that figure. That would be breaking the wage ceiling by a ridiculous amount and force the club to pay other players even more with new contract demands from agents.

I could see us going to maybe 175k a week at a push, but not 300k, that’s a work of fiction.

  5. Sanchez to City??? That would be devastating to say the least…like we haven’t had enough
But i used to believe Sanchez is not motivated by money…300k/week?? only very few players get that in Europe…
Anyway, it could be just one of those rumours BUT if is true, then the original plan might be to move to City, and not Bayern

  6. Alexis is worth every penny
We wont go broke by paying him that amount

I want Ozil to stay but he isnt worth that amount. Alexis is

    1. We should offer Lewandowski and Aubemeyang big wages

      Aubemeyang earns £50000 per week
      Lewandowski £160000

      We can do better

    2. We should be concerned, Pep first season was a transition and he demanded 200 millions two months prior to the season ended. He has started a cull and wants 4 big players and 2 good players adding to the 5 good ones already settle. this is a Coach with ambitions and demanded the board the support needed. Our Coach got 90 millions last summer and we ended up 5th . Buy marquee signings and he will stay. Show some ambition you clueless board and thigh manager. Lose our star player and we will end up battling 6th next season .. Pay 50 for Bernardo Silva or Lacazette and Get Bakayoko for 35 job done but do something soon. Another deadline day heart attack as usual.
