Could Arsenal get the best from Man United’s Martial?

I think it is safe to say that the reported Arsenal transfer target Anthony Martial did not enjoy the best of seasons at Old Trafford, although the new Manchester United manager did not give the young Frenchman as much game time as he saw in the debut year under Louis van Gaal.

With Arsenal being linked with a possible summer transfer move for the former Monaco star, what do you guys make of it and would you be happy if we were able to sign him?

On the face of things the 21-year old’s tally of just four Premier League goals last season, with eight in all competitions, is not what you want from a possible signing, but he managed more than twice that amount the year before.

Arsene Wenger does have something of a reputation for getting the best from pacy young French forwards who tend to play out wide and we all know that his style of managing players is a lot different to that of his old rival Jose Mourinho.

Martial may have lost his way a little over the past year but he did win the Golden Boy award given to the best young player in Europe just a couple of years ago, so do you think that Arsenal should go for him and see if Le Prof can work his magic once again?

  1. Martial likes to come in from the left, and we have plenty of players in that department. Not sure if he’d be a huge upgrade to Welbeck. The team really needs an upgrade to Giroud, i.e. someone who can spearhead the attack through the middle and run behind the opposition defenders.

  2. If Ox or Walcott leaves, Martial could be the best replacement. His got the physique and potential to better than the two. But at the moment, Martial is unecessary.

However, I agree if he were to be trained as striker, I think he has everything you need to be a good striker. From his speed, inteliggence, first touch, aggresion he can be quiet a strong fast striker. Only football experts can see this.

  3. martial is better than any winger we have now.and alexis is leaving so yes we need him

  4. No, he is not consistent. He cannot even compete with Rashford (a junior forward) and Ibrahimovic (an old striker).

MU has taken a huge gamble on him and Depay, and they failed. Martial’s playing style is simply not suitable for MU. I reckon his playing style is not suitable for Arsenal’s current system either.

Like what @dave said, Arsenal needs an upgrade to Giroud, a striker that is good in the air, quick, willing to take on the opponent’s defenders, has good dribbling and can score more than twenty league goals in a season. Strikers like Aubameyang, Lewandowski and Cavani.

If Arsenal will assign him behind a striker, he does not have good playmaking skill and usually can only possess the ball for maximum two touches. This position needs a player that does not play safe and willing to chase the ball back, like Thiago, Rafinha, Neymar, Messi and Sanchez.

Unless he is available around twenty millions, Arsenal had better chase another striker like Aubameyang, Lewandowski and Cavani.

  5. You see how everyone is writing off Martial here yet they think Mbape is the real deal. Let me tell you, Martial only had a poor season and part of that is down to his manager, Mourinho. Martial’s goals are more technical than Mbape’s. Many of his goals came from taking on defenders and dribbling past them to score. As for Mbape, he’s got a lot of his as tap ins from crosses, rebounds and goal mouth scrambles (yes, great positioning you may say). Martial has good ball control and retention in tight spaces. He would be a great acquisition at reasonable price unlike the overpriced Mbape.

  6. If Martial sign for Arsenal, surely he will prove Mourinho wrong. He is more technical than all the wingers we have at hand in the same position except Sanchez. If Sanchez stay, he will take the usual right wing and Martial can take the left wing and Lacazzete/ Aubameyang the center forward role. Think of it how much the opposition defending area can be terrorized.

    Agree with you guys 100%

On how much price would you guys think we should be willing to buy Martial?
Potential fee for United is already around £60m I think.
