Crystal Palace v Arsenal Player Ratings – Wilshere and Sanchez top-rated

It was a great attacking game at Selhurst Park and Arsenal were set up to score more than Crystal Palace, and so it proved in the end, although we should have won much more comfortably. But luckily Alexis was on song at last and won it for us with two goals in quick succession. Our defending is still suspect but at least the ball is going in the net sometimes!

So here are my ratings….

Cech 6
Couldn’t do much about either goal, and didn’t have anything else serious to do..

Koscielny 6
Never looks very commanding any more. Maybe he just can’t handle this amount of games any more?

Mustafi 7
Brilliant goal and was by far our best defender on the day.

Chambers 5
Was thrown in at the deep end and found it hard to cope, but can only improve

Wilshere 8
Jack is back! We wouldn’t have won without him. Brilliant assist.

Xhaka 5
Still adapting it seems and rarely impresses. Surprised Wenger never rotates him…

Bellerín 6
Up and down performance sometimes looked threatening but many passes went astray

Kolasinac 6
Looked better after his enforced rest. Got involved more and will improve

Sánchez 8
His first goal was a potshot but his second showed he hasn’t lost his superb skill

Özil 7
Another top class performance. Sign Da Ting!

Lacazette 7
Gives defenders lots to do but sometimes tries too hard to do it alone

Subs
Coquelin and Maitland-Niles – not on long enough for ratings

  1. Glad we got the 3 points! I thought Wilshere played well. What has happened to our defence lately?? Mustafi had a good game, but Chambers?! What the hell!

    1. It was an excellent strike, not an easy ball to place with it spinning fast towards you at that angle.

      1. Do you ever get tired with your negativity? Brace yourself, Wenger is at Arsenal to stay for some more seasons. Get a life, a girlfriend and most importantly, a job.

  2. I think Jack could have easily be the man of the match. His pass ranges are getting better and the pass to Sanchez was was perfect, his work rate is very good as well. Am very happy to see him flourish again.

  3. Sanchez is not the biggest player that will ever pass through our dear Arsenal FC, but to the the way he behaves and the fact that he openly wanted a move to Man City is down to the fact that Wenger isn’t doing a very good job with the team anymore. We don’t play improved football, we don’t compete well, we get beaten by small and big teams and players refusing to commit to the club are some of the glaring examples of the fact that the club need a change. When he was asked about Jack Wilshere’s contract, I really don’t know why he has to say it is down to money (what a stupid answer) to someone that is willing to sign when he still has the same problems with Sanchez and Ozil, and other players too. Am tired of the way the club I running and now that he is breaking sir Alex Ferguson’s record, he should try and retire.

    1. Talking about Fergies record and AW beating it. Fergie only won about 50 more premier matches, however won 10 more EPL titles. When the going gets tough, the tough win.

    2. Would you retire from your 10 million annual salary?

      – no pressure
      – get to travel around the world
      – sign an extension at will
      – be so deluded that you think you are actually doing a good job

        1. Maybe not , but most of us would not have the nerve then to keep lying and say I only want what is best for the club, when it is clear that what is best for our club , excludes Wenger. Clearly, he stays for the huge salary and the power complex he gets with no one in power to tell him he is harming our club. If this dishonest and senile old fool REALLY loved our club and had a shred of reality about him – which he does not – he would have resigned years ago. Long ago , I stopped ever believing a single word he ever says. I learnt to do this from bitter experience.

    3. Fabulous post! Those who read my constant diatribes about removing Wenger, know he is a ditherer. Imagine his thoughts, if you will: ” Now I wonder if i should make a decision or not, sometimes I think I should, but then again perhaps I shouldn’t , so I will wait and see what happens. And then think about this possible decision i may or may not decide to take, some more. But not too long mind, cos I have to goto the bank each day and check my monstrously huge salary is getting paid. Now how shall I go to the bank? On line perhaps? Or I could drive there. But if I drive which of my many cars will I use. Perhaps I can phone them. Now shall Imuse the land line or the mobile. Oh , Decisions, decisions. aaargh!” Anyone heard the phrase, “I used to be uncertain but now I am not so sure?” Wenger wrote that phrase!

      1. Catastrophically bad news to realise that Wenger still has, albeit a tiny few, supporters on here. Odd though, that whenever Gooners meet in person at pubs and games, you rarely see anyone who wants him to stay. The vast majority of ACTUAL – as opposed to mere keyboard supposed fans – actively want him out ASAP. Get real and join those who want to cure our club, not keep it hurting us all.

    4. The contract situations of these plays is not down to Wenger only, they will be signed already if it’s down to him alone, the club owners are refusing to pay what the players demand.

  4. Jack is class player, only injury letting him down.he can drive from midfield and can pass long balls.he needs quality player around him to be more effective and play one to one pass like he did with Rosicky, santi and even with giroud.

  5. Being humans, we all have our own opinions on what marks players should have got last night. This time, I can find practically NO real disagreement with the writers marks. And being by nature, an argumentative and somewhat cantankerous old git, I promise you all that I tried very hard to find fault. But failed!

  6. I thought Xhaka had a good game, only thing that separated himself and Wilshere was Wilshere’s terrific long ball for the goal. Both of them looked organized, the first half we had an excellent shape about us, but these two still looked steady throughout most of the game. Down the wings is were Palace troubles us. I thought we might be a little lethargic going with these two, but they proved capable yesterday.
