Did Alexis and Ozil perform for Arsenal or transfers away?

It would be fantastic news for Arsenal fans if the theory about our two big stars and contract rebels possibly signing new deals to stay in north London beyond the period of their current contracts, especially if in order to get the best possible deals from the club the attacking pair are going to keep putting in performances of desire and skill like they showed in the north London derby win over Tottenham this weekend.

Arsene Wenger suggested that agreeing new contracts with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil may just be a matter of getting the wages right, but t5hat swings both ways. So if the Chilean striker and the German playmaker think that they deserve huge pay packets they will have to keep proving it and that can only be good news for the Gunners’ chances of trophy success this season.

There is another, more worrying, reason why the dynamic duo played so well, of course. It could be that in a big game like the derby which will have been watched closely all around the world, Ozil and Alexis were putting themselves in the shop window ahead of the winter transfer window or possible in preparation for their free transfers next summer.

The Arsenal stars may be trying to secure the best possible moves for themselves by showcasing their talents now. That would not be such good news for us in the long run, but if it means they keep performing this season I for one will take it. What do you think their motivation was? New contracts or transfer moves?

  1. Just stop it now.I’m sick and tired of all this crap.If we lost them(which I don’t want) then that will mean we lost 2 of our best players. But if they are intending to move on,we can’t tie them down with a rope.I love MESU-LEXIS but if utd can cope with the departure of CR-7 why can’t we hope to do the same???But for the moment just enjoy the beaten spuds and their terrible excuses.

  2. Let the guys leave, no man is irreplaceable. Great players left Arsenal, but the team is this competing at the highest level. Imagine Henry, Vieira, Bergkamp, Overmars, Pires, Cole, and Anelka. All of these players were better than Ozil, so why people make too much noise about Ozil

  3. All players would perform to promote themselves and for their club. If they have more support than critics from their fans, they would love their club more.

    1. They both had plenty of love here, right from the start of their time at Arsenal. What they reap now, they have themselves sown.

  4. The whole team played really well, far better than ever this season. Does that mean they all want to leave?

  5. After many weeks of idling, the two “superstars” took the chance to show their true talent in this key and globally televised game, watched by all top clubs and managers world wide. Sorry to be realistic, which I always am and sorry to disillusion the naive among you but the word “SHOPWINDOW” IS THE RELEVANT WORD.

    1. Sorry I disagree. How many times have I heard and read on this forum that Ozil disappears in “Big Games”? Were those games not globally televised and watched by all top clubs? Wake up mate….and be a realist!
