Do Arsenal fans now have to convince Wenger to go?

I will say one thing for Arsene Wenger, as the Frenchman has proved that even if his Arsenal side do not have the resilience and mental toughness that he often talks about but which the football experts on TV seem unable to detect year on year.

After one of the most painful and humiliating nights of his long career on Wednesday when the Gunners fired blanks while being mowed down by the big guns of Bayern Munich, Wenger looked a beaten man and we all thought that he finally accepted that his time as the manager of Arsenal was coming to an end.

Just a few days later, however, a report in The Guardian shows that the boss appears to have bounced back and not only is he hinting about possibly staying in charge for next season but suggests that there is no reason he could not match the former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in working until he reaches the age of 71, which would mean four more years.

Wenger said, “Ferguson has some other interests in life and he was older [when he retired] than I am today. He was four years older. He retired at 71 and I’m 67.”

Asked whether that meant he planned to carry on for another four years, Wenger replied: “Maybe more, maybe less, I don’t know. Everybody is different. I do not want to take anything away from Ferguson, he was an absolutely unbelievable manager, but he had enough. He had enough. And I’m not at that stage.”

Worrying words for the long suffering Arsenal fans there, so does this mean that Wenger needs to know that the fans have had enough and want him to go. I respect him for what he has done for the club and would much prefer him to leave without being forced out and protested against. But if he is thinking about four more years, what choice do we have?

  1. If Wenger really cares for the club as he claims, then he should just do the needful. Anything else means he is just a deluded, self-centered egoist.

  2. For those who fear for life after Wenger, my question is – how do clubs like Bayern, Real, Barca, Chelsea, etc manage to stay competitive and win trophies despite changing managers regularly?

Wenger thinks he does Arsenal a favour by continuing to manage the club, when, in fact he knows that no other big European club (except Arsenal) would tolerate his failures.

For me, personally, I just want to see a different Arsenal. I’m tired of seeing same tactics, same type of players, same failure.

  3. I respect Wenger but he is no sir alex . To be fair there is no manager who is like sir alex . He won the league with anderson and cleverly. He could motivate a crap player and make him competitive. Wenger does not have that quality. He has become weak, naive and deluded. Sad part is we fans have become like him, deluded naive.

    1. Its even shameful that he tries to compare himself with ferguson.
Ferguson was a master tactician and a motivator. You could see how well and fast rooney matured under him.He is a football genius and by far better in everything than wenger at football

  4. The only deluded ones out here, are the guys who’ve been ranting, moaning and whining on here for far too long, thinking that AFC board, or AW gives a rats hole about their what they think.
Keep hope alive though Y’all. At least you have each other…Lmbao

    1. Nobody here gives a rats hole what you think either. SO what have you been doing posting here for years? Do you think Wenger cares how much you love him? or how valiantly until the bitter end you protected him? You are so delusional, so detached from reality and so afraid to admit that you have been wrong all along that all you have left to do is troll Arsenal supporters. I said Arsenal supporters not Arsene supporters. We are not here to support old, delusional, senile fools who over stay their welcomes. We are here to support The Arsenal, either do the same or go troll a Spurs board.

      1. @jimbeam
looks like I struck a nerve there jimbo. I don’t have to defend AW. He can do that himself. But I don’t come here and whine uselessly like a b*tch about the same ish day in and out. Grow some balls and take your gripe to the source or STFU already…

        1. do you know that Wenger will die one day? what are you going to do? you are so obsessed with the old man, people woke up a long time ago and now they know what a deceiver the specialist in failure has been, and you are here advertising your romantic attachment to him.

          1. Bran69… It would seem you don’t even read his comments. It is YOU who is obsessed with Wenger and have no respect for a lifelong servant to our beloved club. It doesn’t matter what he writes because you will always twist it and relate it to Wenger. So who is the obsessive one?

    1. Arsenal fans protest like kids. unless something is prepared seriously, Wenger will have a laugh again like he did last season after the soft edge-less protest

  5. A fan revolt leading to Wenger’s departure would be the worst and saddest possible outcome, bar Wenger staying another year.

The man “deserves” to be carried out on our shoulders. The fans deserve Wenger to leave at the end of this season.

For me, the best case scenario would be for the team to finish in the top 4, to win the FA cup and see Wenger of with a big parade and to have Simeoni start immediately following that.

  6. I hope he wins the FA Cup this year, so that he can leave Arsenal with a trophy.
And if he is still eager to manage, I hope he continues as a manager of France/England national team. But he definitely needs to quit managing at club level, he is past it.
