Do Arsenal fans want Jack Wilshere to accept new contract offer?

Jack Wilshere and Arsenal have been talking about terms on a new contract at the Emirates since Christmas but there has still been no progress despite Arsene Wenger continually saying that there is an offer on the table and he wants Jack to accept it.

But the Englishman could still be going to the World Cup with England, and if he gives some top performances he could be inundated with offers from other top clubs in Europe. But there is a question mark over his ongoing injury problems and if he gets sidelined again he could find himself out of work next season, so the longer he takes to make a decision the more risk he is taking with is future.

The latest rumours are saying that Jack has been offered one last improved deal this week, and the ex- Arsenal star Perry Groves believes he will accept it because he loves the club so much. “I think Jack Wilshere will definitely stay at Arsenal this summer,” he said.

“The hierarchy is trying to cut his wages but they should put him on a pay-as-you-play deal now that he’s got over his injuries and he’s getting back to his best.

“There’s not many players who have the vision he has and everything he does is about moving forwards.

“Jack Wilshere would be a big miss because his soul is at the club and the fans love him.”

I am not so sure that the Arsenal fans are as keen as Perry believes, as his form has not been very inspiring at all lately. In fact the only rumours we have heard lately is that the promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers are trying to sign him, which won’t be much of a step up will it?

So do you think he is good enough to become an Arsenal legend or should he go and find another club?

  1. Nooe not really. We can do better. He is a squad player at best. Never lived up to his potential

    1. He needs to move on we really need a huge surgery in terms of players him, Ramsey,Ozil, Mustafi,Kozy,Cech need to move on and bring fresh blood we can’t leave with overhyped season after season who are underperforming and that’s was Wenger’s downfall and management decided to take a different route

      1. I agree with the rest but Ramsey & Ozil? Ozil in particular will benefit next season having a runner like Aubameyang unlike the static Giroud and Ramsey does score important goals. I would suggest adding Iwobi to the list.

      2. @Arnold
Ramsey and Ozil? Ramsey should be our next captain.
Watch out for him on Thursday.
It seems you don’t know good material if you say Ramsey and Ozil should leave.

        1. Let’s see what Ozil would do on Thursday

Would he disappears or creates predictable passes again? Or would he be as sharp as Iniesta

          1. put ozil in barca squad he us as good as iniesta.put iniesta in arsenal squad he will disapear also. barca have good combination play we dont

        2. Ozil time is past need an upgrade I would say Nabil Fekir from Lyons we need to get lid of Wenger’s players if we need to improve the squad same thing Spain big two have been doing when you come to Re-building the team Wilshere/Ramsey one good game and 3 out they are fragile

          1. Agree, he had too many chances already

We had Podolski, Giroud, Walcott, Welbeck, Perez, Sanchez, Lacazette and now Aubameyang worked with Ozil. None of them really clicked with his so-called chances

Fekir is a great option, but explosive wingers (like Salah, Mane, Sane and Sterling) and a good false nine (like Firmino) are more needed

          2. agree on Ozil needing to go but it’s not going to happen after that mega contract he signed. And there are other areas we need to improve first so I’m fine with his position being dealt with later on.

        3. Yes. I also thought it rather odd to include Ozil and Ramsey. These arejust two of around 6 I would certainly keep of the established players. I would aslo keep all the as yet unproven one way or the other youngsters. I include AM-N in that first 6 and think he must now be a regular.

    1. Jeremy demerbay from Hoffeihaim will be good signing we need to start looking for good players like Liverpool do with Salah, mane, firmino and now Naby Keita yes we have been names but they are very average in terms of efforts

    1. squad players shouldn’t be on 100k, which is what Wilshere wants around. And squad players should still be able to impact the game. Jack can barley do that as a starter. I say cut him loose. His career has stagnated and club would be foolish to make him a high paid player. Especially when the new manager may not even see a use for him.

    2. Not in crazy wages they are demanding good example was Walcott over £100,000 plus? For what football? And that was Wenger’s biggest mistakes keep a player who is not good for over 10 years and the most embarrassing give him a captain armband was an insult to Arsenal fans

  2. Technically brilliant but he seems to have lost the short distance pace he once had. Maybe all the injuries have taken their toll. I prefer Ramsey maybe he hasn’t got Jack’s technical ability but he’s much more effective, and he scores goals, we must offer him a new contract.

I know Jack is Arsenal through and through but I can’t see him becoming a ‘great’ and we should let him go.

  3. Holding has just extended his contract.

And there begins a new era of mediocrity. Run by a new manager of mediocre players, but still lost in mediocrity.

    1. Sorry, disagree with your assessment of Rob Holding given his age and what he cost Arsenal.
With regard to Jack Wilshire, given his playing statistics for goals and assists during his career at Arsenal and Bournmouth as an attacking mid fielder, if he was on the open market would Arsenal come knocking?

  4. Jacko is YEARS too late to now ever become an Arsenal legend, other than for his undoubted love for the club to date. The word legend is so misused and abused. If we leace aside it’s true meaning , which is for such as The Loch Ness Monster, King Arthur and that sort, its application to mere just above average or merely good players is ridiculous. I now list, in no special order some of MY Arsenal legends: Sir Henry Norris, Herbert Chapman, George Allison, Cliff Bastin, Alex James, Eddie Hapgood, Reg Lewis, Jimmy Logie, Tom Whittaker, Leslie Compton, Joe Baker, George Eastham, Frank McLintock, Charlie George(who only scrapes in for that 1971 Double Cup final goal), Pat Rice, Chippy Brady, David O’Leary, that entire legendary George Graham defence , Michael Thomas, David Rocastle Bob Wilson, Ian Wright x 3, most of Wengers 2004 Invincibles , Wenger, David Dein and Nothing since Sol Campbell left. I leave out the likes of Perry Groves, great bloke though he is (and I have met him personally) and even MERSE. Let us stop using the term legends for anything OTHER than players who have stamped their name on our history for posterity. Apologies to many others whom I would also certainly call legends but have not included in this short list of examples. As for King Arthur…. well I prefer Merlin!

    1. Jon, you can’t leave out “the Romford Pele” Ray Parlour and George Armstrong!

      1. I did not exclude either. I merely did not include them in my short list of EXAMPLES, which I clearly stated in my post. I DID SAY most of The Invincibles, in which Romford Pele played. Geordie Armstrong would be firmly in. I used to know him personally and he was a great Arsenal man and IMO our best player, by far, never to have an England cap. Any of us older fans would fondly remember how he could play on both wings at the “same time.” He worked harder than the whole present team put together and was a TRUE LEGEND!

  5. Wilshere is a top player and Arsenal should try and keep him. His form was very good up until his injury while training with England. He again had a good game against Athletico. If anybody is to blame it is the Arsenal wage negotiating team who should have offered him a sensible contact many months ago.

    1. Ozil time is past need an upgrade I would say Nabil Fekir from Lyons we need to get lid of Wenger’s players if we need to improve the squad same thing Spain big two have been doing when you come to Re-building the team Wilshere/Ramsey one good game and 3 out they are fragile

    2. So pleased to see Joe Baker get a mention. In my younger days, he was my all-time favourite closely followed by George Eastham. Baker had a fantastic goals-to-games ratio and yet is hardly ever mentioned. Terrific player and goalscorer who at only 5′ 8″ decked big Ron Yates with the best right-hander ever seen at Highbury. That was worth the vast half-crown admission money alone.

  6. The clear fan concensus, with which I agree, is that Jack should be allowed to leave, not that we can or should prevent it anyway. He has clearly lost, forever now, that teenage surging pace and brilliance he showed so clearly. He is now merely a decent Prem midfielder who would not make any other top five team for sure and still injury prone and lacking physical power and stature. He goals and assists are woefully brief and though we are all sad, I warrant, he is just NOT, any longer, the quality we need to regain the ground steadily lost to our rivals these last few years. He will not exactly be turfed out of his home and on the streets, so sure, SOME sympathy only for a good but unlucky but at times unwise player. We support the club, not primarily ANY one player or MANAGER, however brililant they once were. Our duty and role is to always look forward. Never backwards, save only to learn from past mistakes.

    1. Very well said!

Now, lets stop discussing Wilshere’s contract plsssssss, we have had enough!

By the way, how is Takuma Asana fairing over there in Germany?

    2. The only performance he put in is when we beat Barcelona at hole few season ago and Arshavin score a winning goal. Wilshere was brilliant !

    3. fan consensus is much more split actually. On here, it’s mostly no deal for Jack, but he’s a huge fan favorite, and even if it doesnt make sense a lot of fans want him to stay.

  7. We might be getting Meyer on a free so that would easily cover Jack’s departure. We also have AMN who should play a more prominent role next year. All we need is a World Class DM, I am sure Sven is scouring the world for one but having watched him more than a few times I really like Fabinho from Monaco although he would cost a bundle. But a midfield with Ramsey, Fabinho, Meyer, AMN, Elneny (sell Xhaka and let Jack go) is not a bad prospect.

    1. Look, we just have a lot of these midfielders, and they are just there… The likes of Wilshere, Ramsey, Xhaka, Elneny, Iwobi and now Maitland Niles, thats 6 CMs of which maximum of three will play at once depending on the formation.

What am saying is, right now, there really is no stand out performer among these ones but we can still pick the best out of this bunch which in my opinion is still Ramsey and Xhaka cos i believe these two are far more productive than the rest.

The major problem for these two is fitness and consistency respectively.
So my question is, why are people allowing sentiments cloud their judgement on Wilshere?
If Cazorla had been fit, he wont even near the first team, what does he really do?

In fact, if we must get our much needed DM, one or more players has to make way in that midfield, even a blind man can we are overloaded there and for me Wilshere is the first player i will release alongside Elneny.

      Swap Elneny for Ndidi
      Release Wilshere amd get Meyer

      OR

Just sell Elneny and buy Fabinho
And then replace Wilshere with Fabinho…

      Fabinho…..Xhaka

      . Xhaka….Meyer

Fabinho…..Ramsey. and so on, just allow Wilshere to go!

  8. Right now Arsenal does not need more squad players. Most of our current starters are squad players. We need world class addition:
GK: All out for Oblak, failure to, get Alison
CB: I think Manolas would be a good addition, and another one who might not be popular with fans but would be a good addition is Smalling.
DM: Go all out for Doucore from Watford. Imagine how influential he is with average players, now with a strong attacking team like Arsenal, he would be a steal, deputised by Elneny.
Winger: Martial fits the Arsenal system better than Man Utd and thats why he has looked like an average player at Man Utd. Lemar is technically also still available but i dont think its ever foing to happen after last summer.

Manager: Im not sure because a lot of Managers have been floated, with good merits and of course their shortcomings. I just want whoever to be relatively young but proved. Honestly even if they bring an unknown, i will support because we need different and i am going to be optimistic enough.
