Does Aubameyang need move more than Arsenal need signing?

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks to be closing in on a move to Arsenal this month, and the player is in need of change almost as much as his new club needs his arrival.

The Gunners are believed to be lining up the Gabon international as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who is firmly keen to leave the club, and looks very close to agreeing a deal with Manchester United at present.

Alexis’ departure will leave a hole in our attacking threat, and his goals would need to be replaced, and our target from Dortmund is remarkably consistent at doing just that, having bagged 21 goals in his 23 appearances in all competitions.

The craziest thing about his form is that it comes amongst the player being deeply unhappy in his current situation, and barely even turns up to training as he looks to leave his current club.

Former professional footballer Alejandro Moreno is insisting that the deal is perfect for all the parties involved.

“He’s been going for a while now,” Alejandro Moreno said.

“The truth of the matter is he doesn’t show up on time to training, if he shows up at all.

“He’s been suspended, he wants to go, Borussia Dortmund want to move away from Aubameyang as well. He scores goals and that’s why you hang onto him.

“If you’re Arsenal at this point you’re seeing your talent going away. You’re seeing your season also going away.

“So it feels that it is perhaps a necessary move for Arsenal, in some ways a desperate move for Arsenal.

“But it is what you need to do, you go after Aubameyang simply because he is available and you’re going to pay what you have to pay in this transfer market.

“I think they both need it. Arsenal need it and Aubameyang needs a change as well.”

Are we a match made in heaven? Do we need him more than he needs the move?

  1. Aubameyang to Arsenal makes zero sense unless we’re getting rid of Lacazette either now, or in the summer.

    1. Selection headache glooming on the horizon, and there is no way we can play 442 no one dose anymore waste of a player waiting around for a pass

Yea don’t know how that will play out unless AW thinks Lacazette could play central defence or Aubameyang in goal, nothing new for players playing out of position at Arsenal

      1. Aubameyang can play down the middle or wide left and will score goals wherever he plays. Anyway, what’s wrong with options, Man City have them in every position

        1. @Kenny Rolfe

But that’s just adding to our problems though. Wenger is already playing enough players in the wrong positions, do we seriously need another? He could play in the positions you’ve mentioned, but his best position is as a striker, which we have in Lacazette (who definitely cannot play wide to accommodate Auba). Auba doesn’t create anywhere near as many chances as Alexis does, so he is better suited to playing as a striker.

It is good to have options, but you cannot rotate Laca, and Auba, and keep them happy, especially when you’re battling for 6th, and not the league. They both need to start every game.

We do need a replacement for Alexis, Auba isn’t it in my opinion, but more importantly, we need defensive players!!! I’d prefer a DM more than anything.

          1. I see your point ThirdMan but to me it could be the most exciting signing since Bergkamp, and how can you not sign a player of this calibre if you get the chance, Even Real Madrid can’t believe we’ve nipped in front of them on this one. If we’re going to get back to the top this is exactly the kind of player we need. I’m sure with the new people in at Arsenal Wengers days are numbered. I don’t think his running things anymore and there’s more signings to come.

          2. Wrong. Both used to be good wingers.

            from the internet:

“Klopp still attempted to use Aubameyang as a right-winger whenever he could”

“Starting out as a winger, Lacazette, who was capped at every youth level for France, graduated to a central position…”

      2. This season 442 formation is having revival, diamond in the middle. Just take a look at Barca with Messi and Suares, Iniesta in the hole + Rakitić and Paulinho with Busquets as holding DM. Real as well with CR and Benzema/Bale upfront, Isco as no.10, Modrić and Kroos as CM’s and Casemiro DM. Atletico Madrid is playing it for years, Leicester won title with 4411. A variation of 4312 might be perfect for us with Auba, since we don’t have a holding DM. That might be addressed with Nzonzi but probably won’t, so I think the best we can hope for is
        Cech
        Bellerin Kosc Mustafi Kolašinac
        Ramsey Xhaka Wilshere
        Ozil
        Auba, Laca

    2. We no longer have wingers. Theo, Ox and Sanchez are gone and Iwobi is not good enough. So we can not play with wingers anymore and need to play with wing-backs. Bellerin and Sead are good in that position. Since we dont have a DM either we can not play with a DM so the formation pretty much writes itself.
3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 if we sell Mesut as well this January then for me the best formation would be 3-5-2 as we wont have a pure AM like Mesut to play that number 10 slot behind the strikers, if we get Mhiki then maybe he can fill that slot.
In any case I think in most cases we can play the two strikers together.

  2. Any team would be pleased to have Aubameyang, his one of the best goalscorers in Europe and to answer your question, yes of course we need him. He’ll score twice as many goals as Alexis and personally, I couldn’t be happier if he signs. As I’ve said on many occasions, the nearest I’ve seen to the great Thierry Henry.

    1. I like your intelligence Kenny when you analyze what really Arsenal need! Aub is one of the best strikers in Europe and technically better than Sánchez ten times

  3. Aubameyang and Lacazette are the type of options top clubs have at CF in their side. Hearing we fought off Madrid if we manage to get it over the line. It comes across as ambition, it really does. Just a pity that it’s all happening at the same time as us losing a gem of a player. I don’t see Auba replacing Alexis position, he’s not a creator he’s a finisher. If we can get the right midfielders and these are our two forward options, like I said that’s the type of business the biggest clubs look to do. Unless Arsene intends to go with some out and out type strikers in the front three ..it would be difficult for Arsenal to keep those two CF’s happy, city can do it, but can we. We’d need allot more creativity from the CM area if Arsene does intend on playing Auba and Laca together in same line up.

  4. I believe we are in a position where us signing Abuja works well for all parties. Wenger will claim it’s a player he has had his eye on and tried to sign previously on many occasions.Abua gets a move away from a club he no longer wishes to play for in addition to a nice financial package and bigger wages. The fans get a top top replacement for Sanchez.Laca gets a strike partner. The team gets rid of someone who has reportedly left a nasty smell and atmosphere in the dressing room. The Board get a ( temporary) get out of jail card.We as fans lose Walcott as a bonus.Mika to sign as an added bonus.WOW the garden is full of roses. Will probably get stuffed by Palace on Saturday.

  5. WE NEED HIM!! quality striker who can basically walk into any top team. Hin and lacca upfront and ozil behind. If not lacca im sorry but hit the wings. And back to 4231. If we get mkhitaryian as well then arsenal are back in business I would say l. Very good transfer deals. We still need some steel in the middle and at back ofc

  6. LOL This Question/Title is sooooo ?funny innit?

We are 6th place (actually i don’t know for sure as i try to ignore looking at the ⚽Table.). Aubemeyang will never be as desperate as an Arsenal fan and unfortunately as long as the board is making its cash?? they aren’t desperate either. But the lower we go the less cash they get. Arsenal as a club with fans are in a very desperate position as we are no longer a top 4 club. We need Aubemeyang’s goals ⚽

Sadly i believe Wenger?isnt desperate yet either because i believe that even Wenger ?thinks his job is secure for another season (i could be wrong. Maybe the board and Kroenke ?? have had enough). But Wenger ?? must be feeling anxiety and stress at least if not desperation

Aubemeyang is still an excellent player. He scores goals ⚽. Who doesn’t want that? Even if he is desperate at some level, he isn’t as desperate as Arsenal fans are

  7. Auba is a proven goal scorer and
his fee will be paid off
    by gaining CL qualification
from the Europa or the PL.
Arsenal is a game away from a Wembly final too.
Abameyang should be number one for the next 2 seasons
Lacazette + Wellbeck fight over the number 2 spot
Giroud and Perez need to be sold now to help finance purchases
and their salaries given to new arrivals.
    We’re gonna do this 🙂

  8. what arsenal needs now is creativity in the midfield like, d Silva,b Silva,de brne and pact wingers, get rid of xhaka, iwobi, and bellerin they are on free salaries, they are public servants not footballers wat a waste

  9. 3,5 years ago, I would take Aubameyang instead of Alexis.
Alexis is a childish and selfish. Aubameyang is extravagant but a team player.
I hope that will happen, also that will be the 1st sign that Sven is taking over Arsenal s recruitment policy from Wenger!
    Hell Yeaaah

    1. mislintat is the chief scout and hes suppose to recommend quality players to the team….

the manager listens to the recommendation of the chief scouts and scouts and the Ceo approves the finance

      1. In our new infrastructure in place Sven is Head of Recruitment probably Wenger’s Boss and might not like it but that’s the only way to push him out

  10. Please don’t even suggest that Alexandre Lacazette who just arrived will go! Lazazette is a great striker.

Simple, Aubamayang will replace Theo Walcott in the team playing from the right side of the attack maximizing his pace while Henrikh Mkhitaryan operates from the left side of the attack and Lacazette in the middle; Ozil the number 10 role, the play maker.

    Please!!!

  11. he would have been perfect in the summer a fantastic finisher with amazing pace but we went for laca so might as well stick with our man. i don’t get all the hate on giroud i personally beleive he’s underrated and unappreciated by some fans he’s one of the best target man out there, if we deliver a good cross giroud will challenge for that no matter what, with a flick or shot he will put in the effort and he will score you goals, many of his goals got us points too if you want to think about how he contributes to the team but we are not playing to his strengths. So I’m glad to have him in the squad and would be the only player i would be disapointed to see leave this window. but content that we are doing something about the deadwood a few more to go and hopefully some rebuilding.

  12. we dnt hv deadwood players at arsenal.all i see is deadwood manager and poorly managed players.just look at sterling at city n comment.

  13. He sounds like a risk for a lower priority position –

Suggests to me that Giroud leaving, that’s a bad idea, but if true then he would be great buy

    And worth the risk

  14. He’s consistently one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorer. His only problem is his bad disciplinary record… but that is actually the main reason why Arsenal is having the chance to buy him now besides being a french speaker makes him much easier to communicate with the manager.
A big risk with his disciplinary record but with the current poor form & situation we are now.. with players left & still more to leave, hell yea it’s worth the risk..

  15. Disciplinary concerns about Aubameyang?…….sounds familiar?…….it was rumored that Alexis was the problem in The Arsenal dressing room……it seems any top player who wants to leave his club has issues……….I’m just excited we got a quick replacement or two for the departed Alexis……time to get behind this team…….the new and exciting Arsenal team and cheer them to at least fourth place

  16. he will play striker.
    Laca left wing
    Malcolm right wing
    Mikterian playmaker, Ozil sold
    Nelson first sub

  17. OxInTheBox I hope you are right for all the good reasons given by others above. Then all Arsenal have to do is upgrade the midfield (replacement for Viera/Gilberto) and the central defense and obviously replace Wenger with a manager who can coach defense.

  18. Getting Auba mikt will make me so happy, Auba name alone gives us good value. It Is not important we replace Sanchez with Sanchez type of player, a player can be replaced through new formation with different player.
