Does this mean Oxlade-Chamberlain will sign a new Arsenal contract?

There has been acres of newsprint dedicated to the contract positions of Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, but hardly any on the fact that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract is set to run out at the same time.

But today the Ox was asked about his future, in the light of a few rumours about a possible bid from Liverpool this summer, and he seems to confirm that he still sees his future at the Emirates. ‘My personal ambitions are always to play as well as I can and be as professional as I can for Arsenal and obviously stay in and around the England squad as well.” he said in the Metro.

‘That’s no easy feat, we’ve got a lot of good, young players coming through at the moment and competition for places is high, and with the World Cup coming up next year that’ll be in the back of everyone’s mind.

‘For me as an attacker it’s scoring and creating goals and helping the team to win, so I’ll just be focused on doing that as well as I can for my club.”

So does that mean he is staying with Arsenal? Arsene Wenger has already stated that he is determined to keep our British Core at the club, and said that the Ox leaving would cause ‘big damage’ to the team. ‘I like his mentality and he has a good football brain.” Wenger said. “It would be a big damage for us to lose this kind of player.’

So it would seem that the Ox agrees with Le Prof, so why hasn’t he already signed a new contract?

  1. ox is overated, as for the papers, why would they print a story about ox when they can print about Ozil and Sanchez.

  2. It sounds if The Ox will run down his contract and leave for free and get a Bumper wage packet at his next destination lol

  3. Although he’s FINALLY made some progression this season, it’s still not enough to keep him on, and on a big wage. He’s had five poor seasons, and one, half decent season. Not good enough, although that HAS been good enough for Wenger in regards to so many of our deadwood. Just look at the likes of Diaby, Wilshere, Walcott, Ramsey, Jenkinson, Sanago, etc.

    1. Of the big group of poor Wenger buys, he’s so much better.. think the likes of Ramsey and Walcott should be shifted first before this guy

  4. if he sees himself as an attacker then he should be scoring more than ten goals and assisting more than 5 each season.
And tbf this player wouldn’t be a starter at any top 5 teams as players at his position post better numbers than him

  5. The Ox is the only one of our British core that has the potential and is worth investing in. The rest need to be sold on…pronto!

  6. We need the ox maybe as far as am concerned to fight out for alexis’ place when he’ll have gone unreplaced’Mesut should stay but Arsene should not get a second chance’It’s high time things changed at Arsenal..
