Does Wenger need pre-season to see what Arsenal REALLY need?

Not counting the teenage Nigerian sensation Kelechi Nwakali and the young Japanese international forward Takuma Asano, because they will almost certainly not be featuring for the Arsenal first team next season, Arsene Wenger has signed just two new players so far during this summer transfer window.

The second of those Rob Holding, whose transfer was announced yesterday, has not exactly set Arsenal fans’ pulses racing either as he is young and was extremely cheap, but at the end of last season the Frenchman admitted that he needed to make a few signings to fix the problems of recent years and give us a good chance of the title, so what is happening?

Could it be that our manager is waiting to see just which positions are really in need of help? Wenger has a long established reputation for giving chances to and bringing through young players and our current squad has quite a few potential stars of the future in it.

The likes of Alex Iwobi, Chuba Akpom, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Gedion Zelalem are all potentially very good squad players and the pre-season matches will give them a chance to show what they can do for the first team. Is that what the prof is waiting for?

Bob.

    1. wow what?!

higuain agreed to join, as did suarez as did countless others.
ffs learn it doesnt mean sh**

  1. What does he need pre season for?
Is he that dumb to not know that the players he sees each day in training and others which cannot evenake tge england bench arent enough for our title push.
He managed players like henry bergkamp and vieira.
He is very well aware that a minute part of our squad can be able to match the level of these players.
He has squeezed the cash into the bank which has caused so much frustration and annoyance to us fans

  2. No. Wenger knows the
    quality of his players
    and certainly will not learn
    anything more in preseason
games like Lens which was less intense
than an over 60’s Sunday morning kick about.
    Wenger encourages youth? Does he?
    Cech Ospina Mertesacker Koscielney Gabriel
Monreal Debuchy Santos Xhaka Cazorla Rosicky
Arteta Flamini Elneny Kalstrom Sanchez Ozil Giroud Wellbeck
Chamakh Park Arshavin Squilacci were all mid twenties when signed.
The youngsters he signed e.g. Walcott Wilshere Chamberlain
Chambers Gibbs Sanogo Gnabry Campbell Wellington Jenkinson
are loaned or are bench quota players.
The recent crop of youth signings e.g. Bielik Adelaide Vlad
Keleechi Holding + Asano is about saving money because Wenger has
    1. Spent so badly these past 5 years on transfers.
    2. Has an aging squad requiring many replacements.
3 Is hamstrung by unsaleable expensive deadwood like Walcott Wilshere + Wellbeck.

    1. Very true. Its hard with Walcott and the Ox. Walcott was great against Bayern when we counter. He can’t play well with his back to the goal or on the wing from what I’ve seen. Ox is terrible and then scores an amazing goal against Lens? Wilshere and Debuchy need to leave. Still on the fence about Chambers. I think he needs a loan. Willock, zelalem, Gnabry, and reine-Adeaide all look better than Iwobi. Bielek and Macee looked good. We have good players, but need to know when and where to play. We still need a good striker and winger. I’m excited to see the new signings you mentioned, Holding, Asano, Kelechi, and of course Xhaka.

  3. surely walcott sold for 25-30 mill and 140k a week freed in wages can get us someone better

honestly hes not worse player on team, but i actually dislike him, i would kick his muller corner out of his hands, given us one good season an talked himself up for the rest of the time
ian wrights report on theo was so on point, an he has had TEN YEARS

ffs are we frozen in time …let it go (see what i did there…disney i see you 😉 )

  4. Higuain has agreed to join Juve for €94 and 7.5 m a year . And the rumour is and I stress rumour, we are after Marhez as Sanchez wants out

    1. if higuain really goes to jove we could try for dybala, maybe he doesnt want to be a back-up player

      1. not a hope in hell.

would need to be a nutty offer .
        we dont do nuts krish

        nutellla do nuts

  5. Higuain to Juve is bad news for us. Not because there was any chance of us actually paying that much for him in the first place, but because it now means that Napoli need a striker and have £80m to buy one with. That makes buying a striker a lot more expensive for us…

    1. But in good news. Juve blowing their cash on Higuain means they won’t be able to afford Alexis Sanchez anymore.

  6. With Mahrez, Alexis and Ozil behind him, Giroud should score 20 goals
He was only 4 short this season, but if we get Mahrez (IF), I still hope we get a striker

Mahrez 17 goals and 11 assists plus PL Champion
IF this signing happens it will get me into a good mood

Just need a CB and striker

But not keeping my hopes high

  7. Based on game yesterday vs Lens, I don’t think the youngsters are ready to reinforce Arsenal 1st team yet. Jeff looks to be getting closer, but maybe toward end of season he will be ready to step up. Iwobi, needs more time also. rest of youngsters need to go out on loan. Chambers needs to go out on loan, maybe thats why Holding is signed. Positive is that Ox looks hungry and fit, Debuchy was actually pretty positive and will provide a good backup to Bellerin. like of striker firepower was obvious. We have no credible backup to Giroud in sight. Walcott is , well, Theo. When Santi, Ozil, Alexis, Ramsey, come back , along with Coq, El, Xhaka, I think midfield will be OK, Wilshire needs to step it up this year. Still glaring weakness is striker and strong CB. Still question about what to do with Joel. He is a pretty good player but in crowded pack. I still believe he will be sold.
