As usual, the whole world knows about an Arsenal transfer deal long before it is officially announced by the club itself. According to the rumours, Arsenal’s deal with Basel for Mohamed Elneny was done and dusted before the transfer window even opened, but it has been left to his old team-mate Albian Ajeti to confirm that the Egyptian international has finally completed his move to Arsenal. In a post (with a pic of both players together) on his official Facebook page, Ajeti said: “I’m happy for you Mohamed El Nenny success in Arsenal.”
Despite the whole world and his dog knowing that everything is complete, Wenger himself refused to confirm or deny it on Saturday. “I don’t give much away because I don’t know [what’s happening with transfers],” he said, “I want to talk about them and hopefully we are capable of doing something in the next 10 days.”
Wenger also hinted that Elneny could be his only signing of January, but if needed he could bring in one more. “It’s more about quality than quantity because our players will not stay out injured forever. Francis Coquelin is starting to run, Santi Cazorla will be back in mid-February, and Mikel Arteta is back now so, hopefully, if we can add one and, if needed, two maximum.”
Surely he can’t be serious? Two players are the absolute minimum we need. Not only as cover for our injuries, but also to prepare for the aging stars that will surely be leaving in the summer, like Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini….
