England snub and Wenger vow to get best from Arsenal’s Wilshere?

Every Arsenal fan would love to see Jack Wilshere back in our first team on a regular basis, because the 25-year old midfield star can bring something to our play that very few others in the current squad or anywhere in football for that matter can offer.

The problem for Arsene Wenger is how to get that sort of thing out of Wilshere on a regular basis. While the boss has been giving Jack a fair few minutes on the pitch this season as he continues on the road to redemption after form and fitness deserted him for last few years, all five of his starts this year have been in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

Wilshere has made two Premier League appearances from the bench and it would have been three but for the late injury to Koscielny at Watford that forced Wenger to change his last sub, but we still need a lot more from Jack before we can say he is really back.

Two things should help Arsenal to see the best of him once again, though, with the England boss Gareth Southgate’s decision not to call him up for England being one. That should urge Wilshere on to prove the England boss wrong but he can only do that on the pitch for the Gunners.

So the news reported by The Sun this week that Wenger has promised him playing time in EPL games is another reason why Gooners should be confident that we are going to have our academy graduate doing what he does best again before too long.

Jack said, “I’ve got a great relationship with the boss, I’ve heard him speak in press conferences he’s ensured me I will get some playing time.

“I want to stay at this club, I’ve said that many times.

“I left last year to get some football, I’ve done that and I’m back now and I’m fit and ready to play.

“The future will take care of itself. All I have got to do is stay fit and play my football.

“I’m a proud Englishman and I want to be playing whenever I can.

“Unfortunately it’s down to the manager who didn’t select me and said I need more football and that’s what I’ve got to do.”

So will the England snub and Wenger’s promise of playing time mean that Arsenal will soon be seeing Wilshere back to his best?

  1. Jack needs regular starts for Arsenal before he can be considered for England. I am not sure I believe Wenger will play him much in the coming weeks. To do so he would have to drop one of Ozil, Ramsey or Xhaka. I would give Jack a chance ahead of any of them however they are all Wenger favourites and he has a habit of just saying anything these days and I just don’t trust him therefore I just don’t see it happening..
