Former Arsenal star calls for Vieira-type to be signed

David Seaman has revealed what he thinks Arsene Wenger should be doing in the transfer market for Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have so far signed Granit Xhaka and Takuma Asano to their ranks, to cover for the loss of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, who all left at the end of their contracts this summer.

They have also been actively trying to sign a top striker also, but have so far failed to bring in any of their targets.

David Seamen has now claimed that they need three more signings, and one of which needs to be somebody who will excite the fans.

“We still need a dominant centre-half,” the 52-year-old told talkSPORT.

“We’ll see what Granit [Xhaka]’s like in midfield, but ideally we need someone like Patrick Vieira.

“And a striker as well.

“He needs to buy someone to give the club a lift and give the fans a lift.

“Ideally a striker would be great, but either a centre-half or midfielder would do for me.”

We all know how necessary it is to sign a striker, and with news that Per Mertesacker could be promoted to captain for the new season, pretty much rules out his exit, and could well see us stick with our current domestic options.

Wenger has previously hinted that he wanted to sign only three players, although the Japanese striker may not be given an immediate role within the first-team, and we could still expect two more signings, one of which is bound to be a forward.

Should we now expect a midfield and attacking addition this summer? Is Seaman right to call for a Vieira type addition? Is there any on the market?

  1. Every post, every comments is the same in this site. can we get a refreshing article? maybe like stats of our current players, analysing fixtures, new youngsters, new backroom staff, what our former players are up to?

Come on, you guys are capable of better articles. Plus I don’t see any other Arsenal fan sites doing this, not even arseblog

  2. Apparently Bolton have accepted Arsenal’s second offer for Rob Holding and the player has had a medical at the Emirates. Personal terms still to be agreed…. And still no sign of a ?ing striker! ? ? Don’t tell me that Wenger’s long lost son Asano, is it? ? He Probably cost wenger 5 dollars, back in the day! ? Meee love you long time Johnny ?

  3. We have a lot of central midfielders: Cazorla, Xhaka, Ramsey, Wilshere, Coquelin, Ozil
Wenger will never spend big on a DM (he could have signed Kondogbia, Schneidelin, Krychowiak, Carvahlo)

Coquelin will fill that role as usual
    Xhaka DM and B2B
Cazorla and Wilshere will fill B2B and Cam
    Ramsey B2B and RW
    Ozil CAM and LW

We need a top CB, top striker and top winger IMHO
My hope is for Koulibaly or Murillo, Higuain or Lacazette, Draxler or Mahrez

  4. I am just going to wait and see majority of Arsenal fans come out and say we need another midfielder because someone of figure says so. It is quite simple, we don’t. We could field 3 different pairs of players to play our deep midfield position. Jack and Elneny, Coquelin and Ramsey, Xhaka and Cazorla. That’s good enough for me.

What we do need is a Striker (top priority) and if we should bring in another player then let it be a Sanchez type winger (Julian).

As for defense, Gabriel is capable of doing the job. He was not a first team player at Villareal for nothing. Mertesacker is not passed his best either so I don’t get the hype about the need for another defender. Yes having an upgrade is always welcome but getting a defender is not 1st and 2nd on my list.

  5. Ideally we should take a Henry-type striker, a Vieira-type midfielder, a Adams-type defender and a Bendtner-type bench warmer… Wenger should also take a David Seaman-type adviser to build the team…
