Frustrated Arsenal striker offers backing to Arsene Wenger

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has offered his backing to Arsene Wenger, acknowledging him as a key reason for joining, whilst admitting his frustration with his Europa League exclusion.

The Gabon international joined the club this January in a club record transfer from Borussia Dortmund, and his transfer has brought a bright light of excitement to the club, but the team has still struggled since his arrival.

Aubameyang has bagged himself three goals in his six outings since his move, continuing his fine goalscoring record for his previous side, but that has not helped Arsenal to avoid defeat in four of those matches, but he is confident that the tide is turning.

The striker is also happy to be able to work alongside under-fire boss Arsene Wenger in North London, Citing him as the reason for joining.

“I am really happy because I am here because of him,” Aubameyang told reporters.

“He had the interest in me so I am happy to play for him.”

“I’m feeling really better; in January I didn’t play a lot so it was difficult when I came here, but I’m feeling better and I try to do my best of course for the team and for the club,”

“I think the team did very well and we are all happy, we are feeling better of course. We feel the confidence is back.”

The 29 year-old also admitted his frustration at having to sit out the Europa League campaign, which could well be his best shot at qualification for the Champions League next term, and with Alexandre Lacazette also out with injury their chances of winning the competition remain strongly in doubt.

Would we have been amongst the favourites for EL glory with Aubameyang available? Are our team turning the corner confidence-wise?

  1. That rule is stupid but does he become available if dortmund crash out. Lacazette as our EL striker is depth we didnt have the years before. it was either a top striker/average backup or 2 good but not great strikers.
LMAO at Manu and alexis he was a black cat and they give us mkhi in return.
Mkhi 2 goals 5 assists in 9 match
alexis 1 goal 1 assist in 10 match and breaking records in possession losts hahaha

      1. Godswill,
He did look like a little lost boy didn’t he?
Wonderfull to hear the Old Trafford crowd showing their frustrations.
As I said last week, after tonight it could be that the only place to watch european football is at the Emirates!!

  2. I do not believe for one minute that Auba was a Wenger target and signing.Wenger would rather have kept Giroud till the end of the season and do not fall for that “World Cup Place under threat”rubbish. If Giroud was not deemed good enough to start for Arsenal then he would not be good enough for France. Its as simple as that.
Sven obviously brokered this deal with Ivan G.I expect Wenger still wanted to keep OG but Giroud pushed for the move because he would have been even further down the pecking order.
Auba would have been given a very clear indication from Ivan and Sven of the Management of Arsenal in the immediate future and been told Wenger would NOT be here from the start of next season. He would not have signed without a clear understanding of the clubs ambitions and would likely have been told of the Calibre of Managers in line to take over.
Auba could hardly then start saying this so he just gave a straight and polite reply.

      1. Really? So Wenger appointed him did he?This from a manager who demanded absolute control?
I think you will find Sven and Raul are the first steps in the “Catylist For Change” that Ivan G insisted would take place.Wenger leaving (or hopefully sacked for crimes against the Mis-Management of Arsenal Football Club) is part of the process.Wenger knows this and so does everyone else.

      2. People will believe what they want to believe. Auba to me looks 100 percent a player Wenger would admire. I don’t think he’s 100 percent sold on Lacazette though, but options were limited and we probably stretched as far as we would go on both of them. I could be wrong and we are chuffed with having both players at our disposal. I think if Sven is gonna cut Arsene out of the loop, or he gets the final say, I think it could be with CB’s and a holding player. I think Gazidas listens to the fans, but when it comes to players or management decisions am not sure that that is a good thing.

      3. Pires,
Not all appointments made are from their immediate manager, in fact, in my experience, it’s normal to involve up to and including board level.
Surely this is the way that any recruitment is done?
I haven’t read one article that says Sven, Raul or Huss appointments were contested by Wenger, but would be glad to read any that do catagorically state this.
These great appointments will take some of the enormous pressure of Wengers shoulders. While it’s good to see a player supporting his manager, I have no doubt Abu will also support the next manager, whoever that may be.
It’s about time the board acted to fill the void left since David Dein went and I hope we see more of this kind of involvement from this largely inept board.
Their involvement, along with Kronke, in our present plight must not be ignored.
Just wish that we were able to congratulate Sven for signing a DM and CB as I thought it was agreed these were the most important areas that Wenger has failed to address. Strange one that!
Pires, off subject, but following your remarks regarding gooner’s english fans, can I ask where your based? It good to know how far the Arsenal fan base stretch in the world.

    1. obviously you are making things up again…

      giroud offer us plan B…

when things are down…giroud could have play centre and auba would have move to the left or right…

we can either cross the ball or giroud can lay the ball for auba…juz like the French national team

but chelsea wants giroud and wouldnt allow batis to move to dormunt ….hence the 3 way movement

      1. Giroud is not and never was a goal scorer. He was never going to lead us to a title or European Title was he?Lets get serious here.He scored less than 100 goals in 5 seasons.Thats in ALL competitions.I can recall a hatrick in Olypiakos when we needed to win 3-0 to go through.A good headed equaliser at Old Trafford at the death, avheader at Citeh from a free kick in a great 2-0 win plus one ( I think) at home to the Spuds.A Fourth in the last minute against Villa in the cup final after coming on as sub. After that I struggle to recall anything special from him.Oh yeah the fluke against Palace.Be honest here.Who would you prefer.Auba or Giroud.
Also we don’t do Plan B as we only have ever had a plan A under Wenger

      1. For when we finally oust Wenger, Wenger has long won that battle. Performances and or age will likely be the sharpening tool. Fourth place is all that needed to be achieved with promises of summer acquisitions and the fans will hang on to hope, last season we didn’t have that but the cup win made up for it. So performance still plays the key role.

    1. sven was brought in to replace crowley as chief scout….

there isnt much break through in the scouting department

and sven is one of the most sought after scout at present

  3. We will not be favourites to win anything with Wenger in charge. No matter if you could Auba, Messi, Ronaldo and all the best players in the world.
We will still be too disorganized.
As some say: “We are worse than a league one team without the ball”. And that will not win you anything significant.

  4. It is a real shame about Auba, we have a fair chance in this cup because we’re used to playing at a higher level. The best we can face in Europa are teams we got past in group the stage at one time or another. Auba could have had a chance to go into the history books pretty early, and he’s looking good as already he has that one in two ratio, he had it before the weekend. Mkhit I like the look of, I like that he can play the pass or he can make the run, I think we’ve been missing those abilities in any one player for far too long. Hopefully Lacazette will rise to the challenge, and show the footballing world that Arsenal now have the strikers to hurt anyone and everyone.

    1. Break-on-Through,
When Sven and Raul deliver the promised goods during the summer the skys the limit.
Let’s just hope it’s not a WHU situation regarding broken promises for world class players.
I don’t think it will be, because of the January signings.
We don’t want anymore fan division, it would be great to be singing from the same hymn sheet.
