Giroud back on the bench for Arsenal v Tottenham?

I do not want to be too hard on the Arsenal and France international star, especially as I have been a champion of Olivier Giroud against his many critics and doubters pretty much ever since he joined the club from Montpellier a few years ago.

I also still feel that the big centre forward has a lot to offer the Gunners and will probably play quite a big part as the current season goes on, but having said all that I think that Arsene Wenger needs to put him back on the Arsenal bench for the game against local rivals Tottenham at the weekend.

Giroud did come on and score two great goals last weekend when we needed him and his goal against Ludogorets was also vital and a very well taken header. The problem is that with Giroud in the middle we did not see the same brilliance from Alexis Sanchez that has been so prevalent over the last two months.

Against the spuds, who have the meanest defence in the Premier League so far, and in the fast and furious atmosphere of a north London derby, Arsenal want the best from our best players and that means the Chilean through the middle. The other bonus to this is that we have the Frenchman ready to come on and do his super sub act again if we need him.

This is assuming that Theo Walcott is fit to play again on the right, but if he is would you drop Giroud back to the bench on Sunday?

Bob.

  1. Yes. Spurs are low on confidence right now. So we need to go full throttle and attack from the start with full speed and score a couple in the first half. Like we did to Chelsea. Then we can bring on Giroud to slow down the tempo and consolidate the game. His strength and hold up play can play a big role in seeing the game out. If we start with Giroud, our game will be slow and this might give the Spurs a chance to take their time and grow into the game. This can prove disastrous.

  2. If we have a corner or set piece and Olivier Giroud is not in the mix then we have decreased our percentage of scoring. I for one want to increase our percentage of scoring.

    1. If we play counter attack football and Olivier Giroud is in the mix then we have decreased our percentage of scoring. I for one want to increase our percentage of scoring.

  3. Definitely should be on the bench, as long as he comes on the pitch hungry and not angry like he was against PSG!

    1. Yea I prefer him coming off the bench. All Arsene needs do is make him feel HUNGRY coming on, and we are through with our three points in the bag!

  4. In order to utilize Giroud efficiently and effectively, he has to play from the bench at the right time. The same is true for OX. We have seen both players being effective when they play from the bench and doing the reverse one when they play from the start of the match.

  5. Could we try Ozil on the wingvandvmove sanchez to No 10 as 2nd striker to OG. Sanchez has been dictating our midf since Cazola left. Hr drops deep, get the ball and pass forward incmost of his games. Ozil can drift to another false 9 for counter as he does always. This means we have 4 potential goalscorers with Theo on the right. Justcmy thought and only for spuds

  6. why is this a topic? Giroud’s place is on the bench.
Alexis starting upfront is not just key to beating spurs it’s key to our entire season
