Giroud still hoping to be Arsenal’s first-choice striker next season

Olivier Giroud has been linked with a move away from Arsenal if, as expected, a top class striker comes to the Emirates this summer. He is keen to keep his place in the France national team as well, with competition from younger strikers like Lacazette and Mbappe but to do that he must be playing regular first team football with his parent club.

Oli was not happy at the amount of game time last season, and surely if Arsenal bring in even more competition then he is likely to be sidelined even further. With that in mind, it would appear that Lyon are keen on bringing him back to France to allow them to sell Lacazette, and the Lyon boss Jean-Michel Aulas has spoken to him personally about the possibility.

“There has been an approach, at some point, for Giroud,” Aulas was quoted as saying. “He is a boy that we like, who scores lots of goals and who has a lot of ambition for Russia [the 2018 World Cup].

“He told me personally that he wanted to take his time, that things were not completely defined with Arsenal, that he had a secret hope that he would be the number one striker next season.

“The key is Arsene Wenger. We are watching. We will try to very quickly sign a top European attacker.”

Obviously the only way Giroud will be Number One at Arsenal next season is if Alexis leaves, Danny Welbeck gets injured again, and Wenger fails to bring in a new striker. That is a lot of hope for Giroud to hold! But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen does it?

  1. Wenger please let giroud leave if he isnt willing to be a super sub he brings more this way if he isnt i urge you to sell him since we need a clearout what have we done to deserve no RVP replacement cant wenger see we need a world class striker to take us to another level with sanchez staying and a top striker we could run the show

  2. Better OG should stay as a Sub.
Looking at injury and how Wenger might make shift players…

  3. This all crap again!. If Wenger really wanted a striker or any player. make the proper offer get the deal done. But no, stalling tactics yet again, oh it’s to late now but we had a go. Bollocks same old. I’ll be surprised if we get any of the names being mentioned. Matic from
Manu might be a good replacement for carzola.??

    1. Arsenal show no signs of change. Want a player, just pay the asking price, but more of what has happened every year….zzzz. Not going follow this Lacazette stuff anymore. If it happens it happens, if not then that’s just normal Arsenal.

  4. Looks like Mbappe is off to Madrid… Again ?? this is now getting boring?? Wenger missed the boat last year in signing this kid for peanuts, he best stop wasting more time and just add him to his nearly signeds & go get the Lacazette deal over the line, before he finds a way of messing that up too.

At this moment in time, we have more rumours of players being sold than players being bought ?? and that’s not including our so called deadwood.

  5. In the season where Giroud played less games, We finished out of the top four… ?? let that sink in ??

    1. In all the games Giroud played we never won the premier league or champions league. Giroud proven time and again he’s best super sub in premier league. He’s also proven after several years he’s not the first choice striker we need to reach the next level.
Like him to stay as second choice, but him pouting if he doesn’t get given starting spot is a joke. Too much of that at our club

      1. More like when Wenger took Alexis out of CF role and put Giroud back in we crumbled altogether. Or now that Wenger is not facing one or two big name managers, instead facing four/five/six, we are no longer better than everyone bar the top 2/3.

        1. Gironde is one of best goal scores why not have him on the pitch with our other top goal scorer.

  6. He can go if he wants to.He was never the right man for Arsenal. He’s an example of why a player shouldn’t be signed only because of stats. You need to actually look at the player’s quality. There are many players in the world who are scoring lots of goals but of low quality and we also have many who are misfiring but are quality.Quality is not necessary about stats but its just talent.Olivier Giroud was the never the right man and to me he’s not the kind of player that will succeed in any top team.He just needs to go because he’s doing himself more harm than good in staying.

  7. would turn deadly and fulfil his talent at Arsenal. He’s got same talent as Mbape, and is more mature in experience and physically. Mourinho killed his game by demanding excessive defending and showing no confidence in him. Guy can replace Saznchez in the long term.

On Aguero, I have suggested a swap deal with Sanchez before. Getting Aguero would help Wenger manage what would have been a backlash from the fans since we get a deadly striker and club icon. Besides, Aguero was born same 1988 as Sanchez. Even with his injuries, Aguero guarantees you up to 25 leauge games and over 20 goals a season and would be out to prove a point to Guardiola. Get him, Martial and Monaco’s Lemar and we won’t remember that Sanchez ever played for us.

  9. It has been reported in the media that AS Monaco have offered Kylian Mbappe a pay rise of £145m per week to keep him at Monaco next season. That’s a part of the astronomical over £100m transfer fee they are demanding for his transfer to any top club side who wants to get him transferred this summer according to reports. And the media is now reporting that Leon FC is now asking for £57m from any top club side who wants Lacasette before they’ll let him go.

Realistically thinking, I can’t see Arsenal meeting any of the two transfer valuations quoted by Monaco and Leon for their two strikers transfer this summer. Therefore, let’s the Gooners be prepared for a none world class striker signing this summer and managed with the two specialist strikers of Giroud and Perez we have on ground who should be ably assisted in goals striking by Sanchez, Walcott and Welbeck with Welbeck mostly providing assists to score than him scoring many goals in their tenths for Arsenal in a single season as he yet to do that since he came to Arsenal.

One other hidden issue many have seemed to be overlooking is, Arsenal might just have their own Mbappe in Eddie Nkethia in their backyard who the Gunners boss seems not to be applauding. He could just be the answer to our marquee striker signing find this summer. So, I suggest Le Prof should include him in his squad for the Arsenal preseason games and the Charity Shield match and play him extensively in these games to test if he has the Premier League games strong spring in his system despite his dwarf like size that can make him stand the long stress that is the Premier League campaign.

And since the marque striker signing this window is gradually looking will fail to materialise due the over hyped transfer fee occasioned in the transfer market to do a marquee striker signing this current summer window which Arsenal cannot afford to meet. A top deep lying midfielder signing of the immediate replacement to the injured Santi Cazorla has become imperative for Arsenal to do this summer. And they should find a way to do it.

  10. Alexis gets CF role and starts rocketing towards the 20 goal mark. We gave this lad all the time anyone should need, if he had owned up to that and welcomed more competition, I’d have thought more of him. I think he’s trying to play on Arsene’s heart strings, if he did tell Lyon that he would have told Arsene also. If Lyon Marseille Wham are the teams chasing him, no offence but that says allot. He doesn’t deserve to be Arsenals starting forward, he never did.
