Giroud warns Arsenal not to take Monaco lightly

Why Arsenal Cannot Take Monaco Lightly! by AT

The majority of Arsenal fans will be very happy with the Champions League round of 16 draw after drawing AS Monaco and will also be quietly confident of the Gunners beating the Ligue 1 outfit to progress into the Quarter-Finals of Europe’s elite competition. While it is comparatively a much better draw considering we could have drawn Real Madrid or Bayern Munich like the past two seasons, the Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has reminded us that Monaco will not be pushovers.

Speaking to L’Equipe, the French international said: “I’m not relieved, no. But it’s true that we had not been spoiled by the draw in recent seasons. Since I arrived at Arsenal, we have come up against Bayern twice in the last 16. That was a very tough draw.

He continued: “I have a friend who called me and said: ‘Oh, it’s good, a French team, you’re lucky!’. Meaning, ‘it’s going to be easy’. Well, we’ll have to see after the game. I think it’s 50/50. Monaco are a good team, even if they don’t have a lot of Champions League experience. They are a young team with very good players.”

Personally, I completely agree with Ollie. Whilst we Arsenal fans can be glad that we avoided the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, it has to be remembered that our path into the next round of the Champions League is not assured just because we drew Monaco. Even without Radamel Falcao, the French giants still pack a punch and are more than capable of ‘upsetting’ Arsene Wenger’s side.

While I am certainly not implying that Monaco are favourites, I will say that Arsenal fans cannot be too confident of beating Leonardo Jardim’s side. Monaco have a very talented bunch of players who will certainly take the fight to Arsenal when the two sides meet in February. Hopefully, Arsene Wenger will strengthen the Gunners squad by then to beat the French money bags and progress into the next round of the competition.

  1. And so king Henry dreams to manage arsenal in the future. Should warn him before it’s too late, he’ll be hated by the fans, and turns from hero to zero…

    1. This is usually the problem with em….Arsenal players gotta stop talking every now and then……they’d come out and face the media before a game then (it may) end in a 90mins of woeful showing…. Love sanchez, gibbs, kos etc …. Hardly ever talks and they are just too good

    2. I am not exited with this Monaco stuff. Even Henry wants to manage Arsenal one day in the future to finaly guide them to the UCL trophy. He said that. He must be so convinced n sure Wenger won’t n will never do it 🙁 🙁
that’s why he wants to come back n help Arsenal win it 🙁 🙁 🙁

      #short live Wenger’s reign

  3. Andre Santos’s spot-kick sailed over the bar. First time he did something good for me.
Because of him Atheletico De Kolakat won against Kerala Blasters in ISL to reach the final.
    LOL.

Coming to the topic. Yes it would be difficult but if we have all the players fit by that time, then we are the favorites to go through after long long time.

It is a must win tie for us

  4. If Arsenal beat Monaco could we
face the winner of Porto/Basel ?
    Then meet Athletico or Dortmund
    in the semi?

  5. Ha! moneybags????? Monaco are no moneybags cos their owner is no longer interested in pumping in money. I wish abrahmovic would do d same at chelski and just bail out.

  6. Monaco have a very solid team, especially in the defensive part. I expect two games of playing against a brick wall and I hope it won’t have the same consquences as the Stoke game. But Arsenal has plenty of qualty to qualify and everyone expects them to.
