Gnabry’s goal to earn him Arsenal place for Sunderland?

The Arsenal under-21 side were in action last night at the Emirates, and they put in an impressive performance to beat a strong West Brom side by 1 – 0. The goal was a stunning volley from the young German player Serge Gnabry, and it may just have booked him a seat on the coach going up to Sunderland for the Premier League game tomorrow.

The other young players that will be hoping for a place on the Arsenal bench tomorrow are Emmanuel Frimpong, Ryo Miyaichi and Chuba Akpom. All four played last night, and only Akpom completed the match, suggesting that Ryo, Gnabry and Frimpong are being considered. Obviously they wouldn’t be expected to start a Premier League game so soon after playing for around an hour last night, but we all know that Arsene Wenger’s options are severely restricted due to various players being injured.

There are seven substitutes available for Wenger. Three of these places will be taken up by the keeper and full backs. There is also a chance that Thomas Vermaelen could be named in the squad. The versatility of Sagna comes in handy here, with him being able to replace one of the centre backs if necessary. Now we also have Flamini, who I expect to start tomorrow. He can always drop into the left or right back position, so I would think the last three or four substitute positions will be filled with more attacking options.

Gnabty’s ability to play on the left or right of the forward three makes him favourite for one of the places, in my opinion. Wilshere will be there if he doesn’t start, so then it becomes a choice between Frimpong or Ryo. I would have taken the out and out striker Akpom, but him playing the whole game yesterday tells me that is not going to happen. What do you think Gooners?

I don’t know, but I feel like we don’t really take a close look to our youth and young players.

The likes of Eisfeld, Gnabry, Akpom, Crowley and a lot more. We have a decent future squad, this gives me chills towards the future :D

Can’t wait for tomorrow, I want to see Frimpong, it has been ages since he played in the starting eleven, youth players should get their chance too, but we should not risk it too much.

      @Nawras
This is what I’m talking about. Our young players deserve to thrown in and blooded at the highest level, “Right Now”
We’re too preoccupied with signings that might come in Jan. or the summer. These “Young Guns” need to be plying and gaining experience because they are the future of Arsenal.

Instead of relying on someone who plays for some other team, lets start relying on the ones who play for us…

I don’t think fabianski will be dropped off the bench, he has done excellently well when called upon in recent times! Would be a bit cruel..

You mean Sagna, and jenkinson will go to RB.

Why would wengy risk Verm after months out?

haha, bloody arsenal and injuries, we have 10 injured to semi-injured players right now:

Ozil, Merte, Verm, Walcott, Diaby, Arteta, Ox, Podolski, Ryo, Rosicky

BBC reporting Mertesacker and Possibly Ozil out with illness. For me that means Sagna in at CB, Jenkinson RB, and Flamini in to give the defence more cover. Maybe that means Gnabry does come in on the wing or Carloza stays there and Jack plays as the CAM.

Can’t wait for the game when Wenger’s has a full squad to chose from.

We’re a team cursed with injury and illness. Its been like that for several years. I dunno, we’re just not a very lucky team. :/

OT: I think Sagna will transition to CB like Sergio Ramos did which is actually great because he does well there and that will eliminate the need for another CB right away, so a new younger RB it is to challenge Jenks and I think the defense will be set. Think we’re good at DM for at least a couple of years with Arteta and Flamini switching in and out. So my opinion along with a RB would be a Striker and maybe another winger and we’re in good shape…

Mertasacker has played with both Sagna and Koscielny as defensive partners this season. But who complements him better?

I haven’t seen Sagna put a foot wrong as CB but there isn’t enough to go by to put him over Kos

Lineup if Mert and Ozil are out should be

    Szczesny
    Jenk-Sagna-Kos-Gibbs
    Ramsey-Flamini
    Walcott-Cazorla-Gnabry
    Giroud

Jack should be subbed in for Flamini later. Jack just hasn’t impressed me at all yet this season. Sure he’ll get back in it though

Rosicky is injured, Mertesacker has not travelled up to Sunderland, Ozil did travel but missed training today because of illness, so who knows

    SZCZESNY
    SAGNA MERTESACKER KOSCIELNY GIBS
    ARTETA RAMSEY
    OZIL
    WALCOTT PODOLSKI

I like Podolski but no way he gets into the best starting eleven ahead of Carzola.

Gnabry is a great player for the future, I can’t see him starting tomorrow but if we are winning comfortably we could see him being brought on towards the end, but the capital one cup is where I think we will see the best of him he should play plenty of games then, got a lot of exciting youngsters at arsenal, futures bright

I was at the U21 game yesterday and if I’m honest, Miyaichi and Gnabry were quite ineffective both had quiet games although Gnabry did score a great goal. Miyaichi didn’t beat the full back once and Gnabry seemed reluctant to take the full back on down the outside.. Frimpong also looked really unfit, struggled to get back at times and looks to be carrying a little extra weight although he showed some good touches.. Eisfeld showed quality but seems low on confidence I don’t think he realises how good he could be, the most impressive performers for me were Hector Bellerin who was playing like Daniel Alves, Olson who had a solid game and Chuba Akpom looked really exciting I didn’t realise he had such great feet. But Ryo and Serge do not look ready.

Gnabry and many other young players are very good but not enough for main squad considering it as a title contender.

previous years we gave young players too much chances but now I think the best option is to loan them till the age of 21-22 to gain experience then use them as substitutes unless they show excellent level of skills like wilshere and fabregas.

this is a new era of Arsenal that I hope it depends on high talented and very experienced players :)
