Good News! Arsenal defender joins Middlesborough

Chambers set for Middlesborough move!

With Arsenal set to sign Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia in a £35 million deal, it means that one current defender on Arsenal’s books is going to find his place in the first team squad drop down the pecking order. With Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Chambers and Holding to choose from as considered first team centre backs, it is Chambers who is reportedly set to make the transfer away, following on from Mustafi’s signing. It is understood that Wenger would prefer for the youngster to get some time away from the club on loan, rather than sit in the reserves.

According to Sky Sports, it is understood that Calum Chambers is set to join Premier League newcomers Middlesborough on loan for the season. Chambers will join Boro in a move that I think will be very beneficial for the Englishman, given that the defender has shown that he needs to gather more experience from regular playing time if he is to be in with a chance of success at Arsenal. Middlesborough could be the perfect fit for Chambers given that although they could be relegation candidates at the end of the season and it’ll be a tough fight, that Chambers will have it in his hands to ensure that they don’t slip down the bottom half of the table.

At Boro’ Chambers will get regular playing time for the season, whilst also picking up plenty of experience playing up against the league’s most competitive strikers in a defence where he could be a key man. At Arsenal Chambers would very much be a stop gap for a game or two whilst a leader of Koscielny or Mertesacker takes charge, but at Middlesborough Chambers could be set to be commanding himself.

I think the move is positive for all parties, my only concern is that with Mertesacker and Gabriel currently out injured for a few months at least, one more injury in defence could see Arsenal struggle for centre backs once again. It is highly important therefore that Arsenal include a condition where Chambers can return to North London, should the Gunners need him.

  1. Wilshere going on loan would be the best thing for him and the club,he’s just way to injury prone, over hyped, way behind Xhaka,Cazorla,Ramsey in quality at another club he can stay fit,get game time and come back a much improved player who doesn’t just run into players aimlessly in the middle of the park!

    1. I agree with you on the injury prone part but wilshire definitely possessed more quality than ramsey.. Ramsey would probably do well in a team like Leicester city but he just doesn’t cut it in a possession based team ours where superior technical ability and intelligence is a must have.

  2. This is what I’ve wanted to see for a while… No sentimentality with players, if you’re not good enough now? Play somewhere else and prove you are and in the mean time we’ll bring in someone for here and now..
Elneny, Mustafi, Cech, Perez and Xhaka are all fighters who will put in a shift and work their socks off for the team. Wenger could have easily extended Flamini, crossed his fingers Wilshere would have stayed fit, but instead we’ve got rid of one, looking like loaning the other out and brought in some fresh, hard-workers. I like it a lot!!

    1. There’s lots of sentimentality at Arsenal that’s why Giroud is still here, there’s no way a striker who only scores 16 goals in an EPL 38 game season would still be at any of the other clubs that want to fight for trophies

        1. Do you mean Wayne Rooney who’s now a midfielder but scored over 200 goals for Man United and won many league titles or do you mean Diego Costa who won Chelsea the league in the 14/15 season with his 20 league goals that Giroud has never done for Arsenal?

  3. I hope he got the promise of first team football and playing through the centre. Watching Jenkinson eventually being resigned to the bench and then Pulis mugging Gnabry off was very poor form. Didn’t like seeing that at all, hopefully Chambers will be treated well and get exactly what he needs right now. Felt sorry for him a little with him having to watch someone of a similar age walk straight in and win everyone over so quickly. It would’ve been difficult for him but hopefully he’ll take it the right way by throwing down his own marker.

  4. I dont see Gnabry playing for Arsenal in the future to be honest, he is already 21 and he hasnt featured in many of the first team appearances. I’ll get alot of hate for sure, but lets be realistic, Eisfield, Gnabry, Merida, Campbell are not up to Arsenal standard. Sure they could be a star one day, but It’s not going to happen at Arsenal.

Can’t blame the club, if you follow Barcelona, Madrid and Bayern, this teams offload a bunch of talented youngsters because there is no way they would have progress or have career it they did not move to another club.

  5. The only issue I see is, and forgive me if I am wrong about any of this.

Chambers was bought as a RB as far as I’m aware, after a few games it became pretty clear he was a better CB.

Our RB currently is Bellerin, assuming he got injured who can replace him? The way I see it you have Debuchy who seemingly wants to be anywhere but Arsenal, Jenkinson who I believe is injured for quite a while, and Chambers who is now going on loan.

Am I missing someone? I think the move would be great for him to get game time but that’s my only concern about it, I’m just not sure many people have fully considered what happens if Bellerin gets injured.

    1. Jenkinson is currently injured though, but will be back soon. Holding and Mustafi can play at RB too.

      1. Actually Jenkinson is already in training. Arsenal uploaded pictures of him on Facebook like a week ago..

  6. I think this move will be good for his development, Chambers needs to play more games and I hope he gets this at Middlesborough.

  7. With Chambers, hopefully he finds his best position in the field. Played for RB in Saints team, CDM in our youth team, CB in our senior team, A lad can only take that much.Wishing him good luck. COYG!
