Have Arsenal decided to sell Bellerin or has he demanded a transfer?

The latest Arsenal transfer news is that the Gunners have decided to sell Hector Bellerin this summer to give a big boost to their transfer funds which are desperately needed to upgrade our defence certainly and hopefully bring in a top notch Defensive Midfielder.

The reports make it sound like Arsenal have made the executive decision unilaterally but if we remember back to last summer, it was reported by the BBC’s David Ornstein that the Spaniard had actually asked Wenger to sell him back to Barcelona. Responding to a Q&A on Twitter, he said: “Arsenal encountered problems with some of those they did not want to lose. For example, Hector Bellerin returned from the U21 Euros to tell Wenger he wanted to leave amid interest from Barcelona.”.

It was also reported that his old team-mate Denis Suarez who claimed that the Gunners’ right-back is torn over moving back to Barcelona. Speaking to Catalunya Radio, Suarez said: “I have spoken with him, and on the one hand he’s keen to come and on the other he feels tied to Arsenal – I hope he can come.”

Now with the end of the season approaching quickly and Arsenal looking very unlikely to be in next season’s Champions League, perhaps Bellerin has reiterated that he wants out and he has been linked with many other big clubs other than Barcelona including Juventus and Man City, where he would be guaranteed to be in the major competition. Also the way that wages have suddenly exploded the 22 year old would be keen to be given a way out of his 6 year contract that he reportedly signed last year.

So I am leaning towards Bellerin wanting to leave rather than Arsenal ‘deciding’ to sell him. What do you think?

    1. Not as good even as average. Good start at club but way overhyped and has never learned even the basics of proper defending. Worst positional defensive play I can ever remember in any regular Arsenal right back. And I go back to 1958. If any club is daft enough to offer big bucks for this immature young man, I say bite their hand off and use the money to buy a full back who CAN defend.

      1. I actually agree with Jon(maybe the first time and hopefully many more times) and from his recent comments he does not value us the fans, that little success he has achieved has altered his ego which is showing on and off the pitch.Good riddance

  1. 2-3 years ago Bellerin was probably one of the best defender prospects in Europe. Already a very good player and looking like destined to become a great player and linked with Barcelona and other top clubs.
He certainly seems to have gone backwards, and it is easy to criticise him.
However, it seems to the same for almost every player, we have. At first they are very good or at least very promising, but after a while they stop developing and many even go backwards.
At the same time, there is not one single player in the last few years, that have gone the other way in their development; growing from average/good to very good/great.
So, it is wrong to blame the players for lack of development and for wanting to go somewhere else. With the current manager and coaching, they simply don’t progress. Not even one of them. It really is quite obvious.

  2. Definitely get rid of him. He wants to leave, and even if he didn’t, he’s not good enough anyway. Enough opportunities have been given to him to succeed, but like so many others at Arsenal, they initially look good, before they plateau. Bellerin has even publicly admitted he hasn’t got a winning mentality to be a top level sports person, and that should ring enough alarm bells more than anything.

Some of our other under performers I think could be salvaged with the help of new manager, but I don’t think Bellerin is one of them. Apart from pace, and stamina, I don’t see what else he offers?

    1. “What else does he offer”? The silliest hairstyle in football; the worst positional play in the Prem, weediness ; inability to jump when attempting to head the ball; immature personality; the dubious honour of being the most regressed Arsenal player in just two seasons; most importantly of all, the large sale fee, even he would fetch, being still young. Sell ASAP!

  3. When Bellerin first came into the side he not only defended well but was always so dangerous going forward. His pace and ability to go outside his marker gave us an attacking outlet that allowed us to play without a recognised right sided attacker which coincided with Walcott getting less and less game time.We all thought this boy was going to turn into someone very special and so obviously did the management who apparently renewed his contract on a reputed £100k per week. What have we seen since then?A player that seems as indecisive and under coached as the rest of the defenders at the club.A player that has rarely delivered a performance that reflected his initial early form.A player whose body language seems to display his displeasure at being at our club when Barcelona reputedly offered £40m for him in the close season.
He could become a great player but for me there are sure to be far better options available who would jump at the chance to play at Arsenal.
If Juve or whoever offer £50m I would grab the money and ship him out.

  4. I think Bellerin playing form for Arsenal since this season began has dipped to such an average level defensively and in right wing back assult in games for Arsenal in all competitions. Save, the goal he scored at the Ems in one of Arsenal ELC games and also in one League outings for the Gunners this season. I can’t say I have seen any special performance produced for Arsenal this season by Bellerin. Maybe his loss of top form for Arsenal this season has some thing to do with the naggling injury he has been carrying that refused to go away. I think since he has shown the potential to be a top quality right back for Arsenal in a back four and a top right wing back in a back three for Arsenal, I think he should be given sufficient time to rest to recover fully from his naggling injury which is currently sidelining him and he could miss out in the Arsenal ELC return leg match against AC Milan on Thursday night at the Ems.

  5. would take anything north of 20m … i think we were so desperate when he came in after debuchey`s injury fans were just happy the guy could stand up … but all a bit of a distraction til the fossilised one goes

  6. If teams are interested in him, then we need to make sure use him to get our self also a new player in return from them. Bellerin is overrated. I would go as far and say that we should avoid catalonian players from now on as those h#$ are no loyal to beginn with.

Juventus do have players who could be usefull to us, same goes with madrid.

  7. 50 mill for a RB who we deem not good enough is good money, I personally think he has been mismanaged, when he first came on to the scene, we all loved him and thought he was the best RB in the prem, for most of his career he has little to n support and has been asked to defend and attack all by himself. I admit a lot of his actions haven’t done him any praises but under the right management he will get better, I put him in the bracket of a lot of our players who have been mismanaged but if he wants to leave, sell to the highest bidder.

  8. When your best rb is convert to wb, and failed to adept
    Whos wrong…
    The player or the formation…

  9. Bellerin is very good. All Arsenal players are bad at times. But if he wants out, then sell him.

  10. If a player sulks then drop him.

If he says he wants away then get rid asap.

Why mess around when you are paying someone top dollar and they don’t want to stay?

I’d rather see Arsenal take a chance on one or two players from the lower divisions – it worked well for George Graham.

    1. Ingleby, good point. It doesn’t appear that Arsenal scouts pay enough attention to potential gems in the lower divisions. By the way how much would George Graham’s coaching benefit Bellerin?

      1. I reckon he would have given him a short time to prove he actually possessed defensive skills – and then booted him out!

Probably have made him get a haircut first!

  11. Not too bothered if he is sold for £50 million or more.

Personally Ainsley Maitland-Niles much better defender, works harder, better technique and passing.

AMN starting RB, sell bellerin use funds for
    CB FFS!

£50 million could get us GK Lafont (he’s Arsenal fan)
And good CB. With Sven scouting prowess and Raul getting signatures, its a good chance to take.
