Did Walcott and Arsenal learn lesson from last season?

There have been some Arsenal transfer rumours in the last few days linking Theo Walcott with a possible move to our Premier League rivals Everton this summer, but we do not know if they are true or if the England international or Arsene Wenger would be willing to consider the offer.

It certainly did not sound as though Walcott was thinking about leaving Arsenal as he have an interview in Sydney last week that the Daily Mail has reported. In fact it sounded like the complete opposite as the flying forward spoke about the need for the Gunners to step up this season after missing out on the Champions League last time.

Theo was one of the few players who addressed the questions of Arsenal fans about the players’ commitment, attitude and desire to win but he was widely criticised for his comments after we lost weakly against a more up for it Crystal Palace and he only started one more game after that.

It might not have been good to hear Walcott say that they wanted it more but it seemed pretty obvious watching on and the most i8mportant thing is to learn from that and ensure it does not happen again, something the striker seems to be doing.

He said, ‘I was the captain for the day – no-one else was going to come out and I felt like I had to say something. It’s out there and it doesn’t really matter. The team went on to do considerably quite well after all those games. There was a reaction and that’s what we wanted.

‘I was disappointed with the way it ended. But I was happy for the team, winning the FA Cup, when you’re trying to get back into the team, the team’s winning, then it’s always going to be difficult because there’s so much competition and will continue to be like that.

‘This season there has to be more. It has to be this season, there’s no holding back now and there’s going to be a lot more pressure but I think we can deal with it.’

I understand why the boss was unhappy with the Palace game comments but I think he has had to accept the truth and learn from it as well, so will we see a different Arsenal this season?

  1. I have more faith in Perez and Welbeck than Theo at the moment. If true, the 30 million Everton is offering could be tempting…

    1. Scoring 100+ goals in his 10yrs averaging 10 goals playing as a winger is something not many wing players can do. We also need to remember that during his 10years he has played with awful players like Sendoros, Bertner, Silvester, Squalashi, Giroud, Djorou, to name few,. He has passed through some dangerous injuries which kept him out of the pitch for at least 3years in total. Through his playing time, while Arsenal failed to win big matches with the likes of Chelsea, Man City, United beaten us for fan, Theo gave us the goals we needed to console during those games. He is the only player who scores hat tricks in regular bases after Thiery and Robin.

My simple study revealed that, those who hate Walcot are those who like hold up play, THE GIROUD FANS

    2. I for one am still waiting to see a different arsenal since 2007.

less talk please arsene wenger and the players.

  2. He was right. Crystal Palace were facing relegation and ultimately wanted it more. That’s why they won 3-0

    1. @Arsenal_Girl
You think Eibar FC would beat Barcelona 3-0, who want to qualify for champions league, but because they (Eibar) are fighting relegation battle ??

      1. Arsenal: 500 mil Crystal Palace: 160 mil
Barcelona: 660 mil Eibar: 50 mil

Yeah, it’s only team value, which isn’t a great measure; but the comparison is just silly.

    2. Was it not the same Crystal Palace which beat Chelsea who wanted to win the EPL than anything else? What he said told me we had still not changed.Season after season we see those kind of performances from Arsenal against smaller teams. They were also better than us on that day.Character and strong mentality is one area where Arsenal have failed over and over again. We find it hard to win when we’re not playing well or a man down.Liverpool don’t even have many world class players yet they play their hearts out to the extent that you think they’re very good.If Arsenal overcome this barrier we will win the league this season and would’ve won the league some seasons back.

  4. If its true that Crystal Palace want Chambers £20 million and Walcott for £30 million to Everton, we should consider it.

I don’t want either to go but the fees and salaries could be used for players coming in.

    1. Same here. I like both players, but if rumored prices are true, then I think we should consider it. I mean, what’s the point of keeping them if both are likely to sit on the bench most of the time.

    2. Those numbers mean nothing in today’s times. If we want to get rid of them, then maybe, but alot of players costing that money but nowhere near their levels are exchanging hands.

  5. i’ll be the 1st one to admit that walcott had a good season both in goalscored and defensive duties which he greatly improved. but in this new formation he simply has no place, cannot play striker and does not have to technical skills to play alexis and oz role behind the striker and his game leans toward taking defenders by surprise rather than taking them on which is not possible in 3-4-3. so he has to go to free up space and wages although i would not mind he plays the supersub like giroud last season.

i know some people will whine about a 140k week player on the bench but its not your freaking money so who cares how much a bench player is paid as long as he delivers. i could have 7 200k player on bench as long as it helps arsenal compete and win tiltes.

    1. I love Theo but this is a pretty good summary of where he is in the new formation. I would be gutted to see him go but equally gutted to see him sitting on the bench for Arsenal.

      1. Walcott is making 110k a week. No idea why everyone thinks he makes same amount as Sanchez

  6. This is interesting. Walcott said yesterday that he spoke to Wenger about playing a new position within the 343 formation

“I’ve spoken to the manager. Maybe I will change my role in this formation slightly, we’ll see how it goes, if it works…..“I can’t really say what the role is. Playing right wing back? No, I can’t really say.”

  7. Sign Lemar, let Sanchez run out his contract, when he leaves next season, Lemar wud HV been acclimatized with the rigors of the premier league, Sanchez will be 30, Lemar will be 22 and approaching his peak while Sanchez will be on the decline.

  8. Sign Lemar, let Sanchez run out his contract, when he leaves next season, Lemar wud HV been acclimatized with the rigors of the premier league, Sanchez will be 30, Lemar will be 22 and approaching his peak while Sanchez will be on the decline.

    1. Remember Lemar is left handed and he is not quick, so I don’t see him reach half of Sanchez quality at his 30s

        1. Ozil type, I didn’t see the electric in his feet, plus he can’t dribble past please go to clips and compare him with players like Sanchez and or even Mahrez and just let us know how long will he reach to their levels

          1. While I’m not defending some of Ozil’s performances – on his day their isn’t a player faster than him. He doesn’t need raw speed because he sees it whether it’s where he needs to pass to or where he needs to be. This dude doesn’t even run when he is on form – he just glides across the pitch like a click bait and saying let’s watch a ghost turn up in this picture.

Lemar is nothing like that. The qualities are completely different.

            1. I agree with you, but the question here is, does Lamer reach the level of Sanchez one day?. Do we really need him him today or its because we need just new signing?. If we want midfielder why not Vidal?, Why not that Everton man called Gueye?, why not the ACRroma man called I don’t remember his name but Vidal like?, why not Isco?,

If we want wing player why didn’t we go for Costa Deoglas? Why not Mahrez?. Some people, has an age concerned they always think young players are what needed during transfer window, my friend this is BIG NO, what Arsenal need just now is to have players who can deliver and win us mojor trophies even in just a season, we don’t care of their ages

  9. It would be the highest form of injustice to sell Walcott and keep Welbeck and Giroud. What an overrated bunch of players we have in our team.No wonder 95% of Arsenal players always fade away in other teams when they leave. If we are selling Walcott then why aren’t we doing the same to Giroud and Welbeck.Someone should tell me why Walcott leaves but they should stay.I know many fans feel Walcott hasn’t yet turned out to be world class and all that but looking at his goals it’s fair to say he’s done his bit.If you sell a player in the same scenario as Walcott you sell him because he failed. But have Giroud and Welbeck not failed at what they were supposed to do?Arsenal is such a stubborn club.It looks like the stories of Eduardo and Van Persie have taught us nothing really.Their injuries denied us the trophies as we had no capable back ups.If Laca gets injured we are doomed mark my words.

    1. exactly what i think, welbeck has qualities like pressing opponent, making runs and running all match but while it just suited the wide forward role in 4-3-2-1, we dont need him in 3-4-3. 3-4-3 has less specialised forward positions; left & right AM(oz and alexis) and ST( lacazette). these 3 roles need qualities like vision, finishing and a high football IQ which isn’t welbeck best attribute.

giroud and walcott can stay as supersub bench player and some first team appearance when rotation is required or to unlock park the bus teams.

  10. For me it’s easy to spot whether a player has the killer instinct and high IQ. Walcott definitely is on the lower tier for those. He can score 1000 goals but the link up play and basic football sense is forever lacking. Now i see Iwobi showing signs of the Walcott syndrome, talks too much, instead of going for the kill in games. Eddie Nketiah is a fine example of someone who keeps head down, do the job first. Oxlade also have matured, but Walcott has stagnated.

  11. Someone is trying to rate theo ahead of OG12, I doubt if that person watch our games at all. Welbeck n Giroud has better work rate than him, but Theo scores better than welbek but not Giroud.

Anoda point, pls let Laca play first b4 we make him look like messi

  12. Hopefullt the lesson learnt is to do your talking on the field!
