How Evans spit ban could really help Arsenal

One thing that the Arsenal fans will not have to worry about at Old Trafford in the FA cup is being spat at by the Manchester United defender Jonny Evans. Because despite denying the FA charge, Evans has been banned for six games and the first of those will be the quarter-final against Arsenal. He would also miss the replay if we draw tomorrow and have to play again at the Emirates.

While you may not think that makes a great deal of difference to the GunnersĀ“chances of success, the fact that he started the last two games under Louis van Gaal with Man United having all their defenders fit, tells you that Evans is currently first choice under the Dutchman. And United have been shaky at the back all season so anything that weakens them further has to be good news for us. Smalling and Jones do not exactly strike fear into the heart of many strikers after all.

It is not just in the FA cup where this ban could work in our favour though, as the Northern Ireland international is also set to miss some big Premier League games, including Tottenham, Villa and Man City at Old Trafford and Liverpool and Chelsea away.

With Man United looking like one of the clubs most likely to challenge Arsenal for a top four finish, every little helps. Now letĀ“s make it count in the FA cup as well.

  1. Looking at the players United have, how on earth it’s the defence that is solid and the attack that’s struggling is beyond me..

    1. That’s a really good point

With Falcao, Rooney, Mata, RVP, Di Maria, Fellaini, Herrera. You would think United would not struggle to find goals

Then you look at defense. Alright, de Gea is WC. But the defense Shaw LB, Rafael RB, CB = Smalling, Evans, jones, Rojo, it’s not Scary at all. I think it’s a very average defensive line

      Debuchy/Bellerin, Koscielny, Mertsacker/Gabriel, Gibbs/Monreal > >>>>>>>>>>
      Rafael, Evans/Jones/Rojo/Smalling, Shaw

Daley Blind is a very good DM although I personally think Coquelin is better.

So, I think De Gea and Blind make up for any deficiencies in the defensive line. I think Blind can break up play, intercept balls, etc in front of defense and De Gea can make great saves.

In terms of attack, Rooney, Falcao, RVP, Di Maria and Mata are obviously quality players but for some reason either they don’t play their best together or need more time to gel.

  2. In a nutshell de gea has been a revelation and saviour for man u this season! If it wasnt for de gea man u would be mid table!

  3. I do think evans is considered one of the weakest of all other defender, so dont know the positives of him getting banned.

If I am not wrong carrick is back for them so he will be another vital cog for them. Very underrated yet effective player to have.

  4. I don’t get why so many hate on and dismiss smalling. I might be the only one, but I actually rate the guy and think he’s there best CB.

But this Evans ban shouldn’t affect the way we approach the game, we need our entire team to fire on all cylinders if we want to win at OT. I hope wenger doesn’t make to many changes but I can see him doing that since top 4 is priority.

  5. DAILY MAIL supports Man U and I have proof…….
How does a break in at your affect form???????
They are quick to hev a go at Arsenal players (Not that um sayin they should not be criticized), but the way they protect Man U players beats me…. Remember Arsenal was ravaged with injuries in January 2014, and NOONE, I MEAN NOONE ever mentioned that as affecting our good run at that time… Now this……. And to think they can’t even giv Ozil a break…. GOOD JOB…
HATERS….. Hope they are prooved wrong tonight… COYG……
