If an Arsenal defeat means Wenger goes, then bring it on!

If defeat means the end of Wenger then so be it! by Konstantin Mitov

Pain is often a visitor at the Emirates of late and it’s been toxic, but albeit the troublesome times, there is something good in all this. All the defeats and all the negativity around the club mean we might be getting closer to the solution of the one true problem at this football club.

They say sometimes you need to take a step back in order to start moving forwards and losing against Man City for the second time in the week, could just be the kind of medicine we need. This game is practically meaningless. Even if we get points out City, we’re still miles behind the top 4 and the top 4 definitely means more Wenger.

The board will use any excuse to give Wenger more time, but right now things are shaky for him. He may talk about respecting contracts and so on, but he’ll be on the wire if we do not win the Europa league as it’s the only possible way to get back to the Champions league. Will there be change if we finish 6th trophyless?

You can never say it’s certain with Arsenal but look, Ivan talked of a “mature conversation” at the end of the season and with Sven Mislintat and Raul Sanllehi it does looke like Wengers factor of importance is slightly being reduced. He still has the owner by his side, but I feel that with the team being built around him, Wenger will very soon realise he’s the odd one out.

The talks about new and exciting young managers are the best thing about Arsenal right now. The latest name mentioned is Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann who is just 30 years old! I love it! It sounds new, fresh and so different from what we know all too well.

Finally if you wonder, why Guardiola is giving Wenger “support”, it’s quite easy. If Wenger stays, we continue to be the worst top 6 club. If he leaves, with the resources, fan base and even players we have, although some need to be replaced immediately, we will become a force once again!

  1. We are the worst top 6 club by a mile ☹
As much as I want Arsene to leave, I can’t bring myself to want them to lose every game…. at the end of the day I love Arsenal not Arsene

    1. If in the long run, we get better days, I’m more than happy to endure some bad months. We already put up with it anyways, right? We can’t have it both ways though. There is no situation where Wenger get’s positive results and then leaves at the end of the season. This only ends ugly.

      1. We have endured some bad months that’s for sure! I think it will be sooner rather than later (Arsene departing) so I’ll just have to ride it out.. like every other gooner!

    2. Well said Sue, I said recently you’re a true Gooner and you are. I’m also desperate to get Wenger out but what am I supposed to do, cheer a last minute winner for City. Never, and I’m 68 years old but still fit and I’ll be cold, probably freezing, but I’ll be over there regardless of the weather.

      1. Trouble is if we win he will argue we can compete with the likes of City.
We can compete – just not with him at the helm.
I hate to bet against Arsenal but if it results in a new regime and direction then bring it on. They will also have more motivation than us…

      2. Kenny , You are a true fan and we all understand the dilemma you and all true fans have but surely you need to put the clubs short and long term future above one , however good, result? It makes no sense to want anything that might help keep Wenger. You know that in your heart. Sometimes fans have to use their heads more than our hearts, for the greater good!

          1. Declan, I respect you too but have you ever asked yourself why your head rules your heart? In most successful acivities in any walk of life, successful and wise decisions are made by the head , not the heart. Just arguing that football is different shows an inability to grasp the harm that decisions based on pure emotion, ONLY, can do. Ultimately the club, run by business people will make a business based decision . I am certain he will be sacked by May , UNLESS we win the Europa, which my HEAD tells me , we won’t! Any properly run and successful club MUST be run by those using their heads. Maybe this is exactly why fans are shunned from being in a decision making capacity. Depends how deeply you wish to, or can be bothered to think about this subject and that willingness , itself, depends on how desperately you want the club to win top honours, not merely meaningless games, like tonight.

      3. Kenny… thank you!! ☺ I hope you enjoy the match & don’t freeze… hopefully you’ll be out of your seat cheering, so that’ll warm you up. I’m watching on the tv, next match I’ll be at is Watford (to boo Deeney & his cojones ???) COYG

          1. Thank you Declan, GB, Sue and also Jon because I know he means well, I’ve just got back and thawing out, no drink tonight because my five mates didn’t turn up (fair weather fans, don’t worry ,I’ll give to ’em when I see ’em) but they weren’t the only one’s. The Emirates was empty, never seen it like this before but that’s a good thing because if anything can help to rid of this dinosaur of a manager, an empty stadium will, once the greedy owner see’s he taking no money at the bars and restaurants then he’ll realise the man in charge has got to go, and the sooner the better. As usual I was out of my seat hurtling a tirade of abuse at Wenger and Bould for just sitting there letting the game drift away without any input and getting strange looks from the tourists around me, funny place that Emirates stadium, so corporate and touristy, I just don’t if I take anymore.

              1. Sue, I’ve never ever left a game before the final whistle but I was so cold, freezing in fact, sitting there with empty seats either side of me and thought at half time 0-3 down “I think I’ll go home” but I didn’t, just couldn’t do it, and stayed to the end.

  2. I guess Arsenal have to endure a few embarassments until the end of this season, because they might need to respect Wenger for the trophies he brought. Replacing manager will give Arsenal a fresh start, but I don’t think Nagelsmann would be a good choice. I prefer to gamble with Jardim, Sarri, Enrique, Arteta or Pellegrini

  3. I never WANT Arsenal to lose. I always want them to win every match.

Same tonight. I hope we win even though the win would be next to meaningless

    I want Wenger OUT!!!!
Being 6th place with no trophies (i want us to win Europa League and finish top 4 but I’m afraid that with our weak defense, there is little chance) should be enough. But Wenger will not go willingly. Its up to the board

    1. Why would a win be meaningless that’s just plain stupid, a win means we get three points whitens more significant than the caravan cup , sometimes some fans don’t use their loaf tonight is more important than last Sunday by a long jot

      1. Mr pat, A win tonight is not meaningless ,since it that it would lessen the pressure on the club to sack Wenger . And that lessening would be harmful to our future prospects. So you are right but for the wrong reason to say it is not meaningless. If you seriously still think this team with this manager can actually make top four, I SUGGEST YOU ARE NOT ENGAGING YOUR HEAD.

        1. Jon, do you really think a win would give him a stay of execution? He’s toast mate, he’ll give into the majority opinion and resign or be sacked. Lots of rumours today the board are actively looking at replacements. A win gives us fans a reason to be happy, albeit short lived, but helps get our last loss out of the system. I know it doesnt solve the bigger problems but hey, let’s have a little bit of hope eh?

          1. No GB, I think he is already toast and even , possibly this week. More likely the week we are out of Europa and at worst by May at latest. I have had substantial bets on his sacking this summer, some of them by May. I am the most convinced of all Gooners that he is toast and have been saying so for some time now.

  4. Even if we were to loose 5-0, Wenger wouldn’t lave by himself. I wish he would to save some dignity and respect, but he seems to put his own interest above the interest of the club.
    Sad, really.

    1. Very true……… I knw he won’t leave or even give up the rest of his salary for the year, if we were to receive another 8 – 2 drubbing…….. ‘he will honour his contract’…… in my opinion the only honour he can do to his contract is to terminate it….. the pains of the loss is for only the fans (and any of our players that has any sense of pride in them) to bear…. so, I still want us to win

  5. It shows me, you and others have never learnt anything from what had happened in the past defeats and humiliations. Especially you with only God knows how many article you have put out for us to read each time arsenal lose and the man still has his job. Neither Ostersunds nor Man City defeat and the outcome of today’s match will not decide the future of Wenger. It has been decided in May by Stan and only him can “re-decide” it.

  6. Sorry but I can not help myself… I hope we will win!
…and I dnt think Wenger will be sacked. I hope he will be sent away after this season.

  7. Do I believe the club needs some new impetus and direction? Yes, and I also believe that this will come from a change of manager, but do I want a man I respect and admire greatly to be ignominiously sacked? Certainly not.
Unlike some of the loudmouths who masquerade as supporters of Arsenal, I accept that before change comes we must experience some pain, and that doesn’t mean the club’s so-called supporters calling for us to lose games; it comes from a natural tailing-off in fortunes and a natural and orderly transition.
I admire and respect Arsene Wenger and am grateful for so many wonderful memories under his guidance. He knows the time is coming for him to step down; he doesn’t need a bunch of rabid loudmouths to shame him and our great club, and our great club certainly doesn’t need mindless idiots calling for us to lose. . . shame on you and them.

    1. MikeB,
Your sentiments are mine and I admire you coming on and saying what you feel and believe.
We are a divided fan base, but the true gooner always come through.
If we win tonight, which I really hope we do, that doesn’t diminish the terrible performance on Sunday.
We obviously believe our own views are right and there are fans on here who differ completely with each other…but we should be able to have a decent debate, with no name calling and personal attacks.
A small minority, from both sides, are very confrontational in their posts (I hold my hands up with some of my own), but in the end if Arsenal win that should be what counts, Wenger or no Wenger.
I do wonder how the fanbase will come back as one again with all the mudslinging that’s gone on.

      1. The fanbase will soon unite once we again have a team that is determined to win and under a manager who is also so determined and who therefore motivates , instead of demotivating players. Our views are academic, since buslnessmen will make the decision, to sack or not, not us. Businessmen most value money, and that money is much threatened with another year missing out on CL now almost certain. That is why I am more than 90% sure Wenger will be sacked by May. Your views and mine are irrelevant to them , since they use heads , rather than hearts when deciding. I do wish you would understand that our passion is so vital to us fans, not the club , that passionate language is the only weapon we wield in our attempts to galvanise support for our point of view. I respect the decency behind those, very much including you, who prefer to use diplomatic language and were we not so driven to despair by this manager and the club which has, thus far, failed to sack him, I would act as you do . But as a true fan yourself, you understand very well the depth of passion all fans feel. This passion leads to divisiveness, which will only be put right when all fans can unite behind a new man. Too many of us now loathe this manager with all out hearts and whatever you believe, you surely cannot expect that to change now. He has gone too far down in our opinions already and things will surely only get worse , until the club acts. Either you see that truth or you don’t, Ken.

        1. So suddenly qualification for the champions league is shown to be of great importance to the club?
That is what wenger has been saying every season his team did just that.
He was belittled by a section of fans and the media as that wasn’t winning a trophy. The first season in twenty the club failed to qualify but won the FA cup, he was once again belittled.
In fact it was said that we needed to win a trophy rather than qualify for C.L. by those who were against the man.
This site has seen many more fans coming on and defending Wenger. Not because we want him to stay on forever, but because we respect the man as a human being and what he has achieved for the club.
When I read that the man is a “cancerous growth” and that the wish he is “injured or dead” or that we lose every game for the rest of the season, I cringe that this is coming from an “Arsenal fan”. That is not passionate language.
I lose respect for that kind of fan and loathe him with all my heart.
Would I be able to “unite” with this kind of supporter? Never.
When Wenger goes, I will support the new manager, board and owner just as I have under Wenger etc.
But something has changed for me and it has left a nasty taste in my mouth.
I had to return home in the early hours of this morning as I couldn’t even get out onto the main road due to snow up here in the Cairngorms.
I am gutted but will be back at the Emirates supporting my CLUB.
Either you see that or you don’t, I don’t really care.

  8. I never want to see Arsenal lose! You’re not a fan Konstantin, surely?

I always say (and as I said before the final last week), if the performance is at the required level (Nothing short of every thing that can be given for a win) then, the rest is down to the manager!

Fact is, this team keep failing to put that level in, in terms of effort, attitude, pride, passion and determination! It’s a failure that keeps repeating like “Ground Hog day”. These players are in a job that demands they perform for the club that pays them. If they fail to perform they should, under normal circumstances, be taken out of the team and replaced by an perfectly adequate player, yes? But this is Wenger and there is NO accountability for making said failures on a regular basis!

To this point, I agree, Arsene Wenger has to go. Not because of the losses acquired this season but, because the team is dysfunctional under a manager that fails to mentally and tactically repair his squad. It’s stale. The way we lose is the problem. The football is suffering because the attitude is suffering and losing will only make it worse!

We need to go on a winning run and “hope” to win the EL cup with passage to the CL next year. Then, we can attract better players under new management next year!

  9. Bravo Konstantin! There will be thousands of us thinking EXACTLY as you have bravely written. I say “bravely” because it is difficult and goes against all natural instincts to wish a defeat on our team , at any time. But basic common sense leads me and many, many others, I feel sure, to the same conclusion. As you say, we are almost certain to finish 6th whatever happens tonight and a win would only lessen the pressure on Wenger to be sacked, which would be a catastrophe for our beloved club. I have been regularly writing posts on here for some time now to this effect AND I feel certain, that unless Wenger can conjure a trophy in the Europa, he is toast by May. With Welbeck as our Europa striker against ACMilan and such as Iwobi, Xhaka , Mustafi and Bellerin that chance has effectively already disappeared. Indeed, I have wagered several sizeable bets at fast shortening odds, on his sacking . I placed the first, at the longest odds, the moment I heard that Josh Kroenke was staying in London for a three month spell. He is not here as a tourist for sure, so it doesn’t take much brain power to see which way the wind is blowing. The 0-3 loss to City will be seen as a great day for us, when we have some hindsight, further down the track. Another embarrassing performance tonight will be a help but I believe the decision has, privately, already been made to sack him the minute we fail to qualify for next seasons CL, by either route.

When I remember back to his start in 1996, to when he got rid of all the existing deadwood in double quick time and compare to now, when he actively COLLECTS deadwood(eg Walcott for 12 lazy years), I see Jekkyl and Hyde in existence. Goodbye, Mr Hyde , and good riddance!

  10. I want Wenger out as much as much as most fans on here but do I want to see my team lose another game, no I dont, you want your team to win every match, even tho that’s not possible you still want to see them put in an effort and try to perform. Wenger is not going anywhere at least until the end of the season, I still want to win the Europa but that shouldn’t mean that Wenger retains his position or I want him to, I just want the team not the manager to win.

  11. Ok then for a team to win you need a new manager, new manager means new ideas, new players fresh beginning and get rid of someone who knows how to manipulate/entertain press conference we need to be at Barcelona/Madrid calibre even Seville did way better then arsenal in europe

  12. Just the name wenger sounds like an insult to me now. He has made us believe finishing 4th is as good as lifting the EPL. worse still he now wants us to believe 6th is fair enough after spending that much in the past transfer windows. if it means losing to throw him out, we better start losing with a passion….
    Wenger out

  13. I want him gone whatever
Will he be gone this summer I don’t know, howeve I’m 100% sure he won’t leave of his own free will
He is sucking the club dry of competition, his legacy is gone

From here on I would like players to play for the club who a) want to play for the club, b) who are the future

    So NO
    Eleneny
    Xhaka
    Mustafi
    Czech
    Ospina
    Welbeck
    Iwobi

    1. John, Surely it is a far different list that is relevant. A list of those who a new, proper manager could usefully use, when he takes over. On such a list to keep, I offer, in no particular order: PEA, OZIL, LACAZETTE, MYKHITARYAN, and at a stretch, Ramsey and Wilshere. We should keep all the very young fringe players who have come through the club too, Nelson, Maitland-Niles, Nketiah etc but NOT Iwobi. We have no defender or keeper good enough, not remotely, and apart from those I list , no midfielders either. Of course we cannot move out all the remainder at once, but the new man should make a quick start in shedding deadwood ,as the early Wenger also did; before he began collecting deadwood himself.

      1. I agree that we are so far off the top 4 it’s disgusting although I do think a new decent manager will get the best out of some

        1. For sure many of those who have badly regesses under Wenger will sharply improve under a proper coach. But ENOUGH? Bellerin , had he been coached properly from the start could have been special. But I think he is now too far gone, too many basic mistakes riddle his every game that he will not make the player he promised to be and should have been , had we had a manager who had even a scintilla of defensive knowhow. But sadly, we haven’t, as we both know.

    2. You are definitely spot on, it’s only poor results which will push Arsene off the club as it will put more pressure on him, any win will consolidate his stay. So if it means losing heavily today as well as Europa so be it, we have so much put up with him for over a decade now but we keep regressing by the year. It really pains wishing the club you so much love to lose. We are fed up of having heartaches always supporting a team then end up losing due to same mistakes.

  14. I will under any circumstances want arsenal to loose a game all those who wish that on arsenal are not true fans of arsenal they are worse than judas, don’t care who the manager is as long as the team get a result, even if arsene leaves tomorrow arsenal will in the future loose one or two games, lol real Madrid was humbled two days ago the world still carry on

    1. But Real Madrid dont get humbled on a regular basis. In 2018 arsenal have lost 6 out of 12 games, lost eight games in the league to Swansea, Bournemouth etc etc. If your wife, girlfriend or boyfriend is cheating on you consistently are you gonna stand for it ? we are being cheated at The Arsenal, most expensive tickets in the whole world and you fail to see the grivience Arsenal fans have re Wenger. We the true fans want success not shambolic football. We have lost close to 10 games already, sixth in the league, if we lose one more so be it.
Questioning our loyalty because we are not emotional about wenger, you got a cheek

      1. Victor, the real question is do we use our heads OR our hearts. I just remind people , but no need in your case, thankfully, that all successful businesses , enterprises, governments, businesses and homes are happier and more successful when brain rules heart. This is of course a good reason why boards do not usually include fans; though I know there are always exceptions but my point stands. Of course there are people everywhere, and indeed on this site who can use brains AND heart. But brain is always most important.

  15. If you want Arsenal to win tonight, you are being emotional without foresight. Of course we all love The Arsenal to win but come on guys put your emotions to one side cause i have regarding wenger. In the cold light of day we have to be brutally honest, no where else in world football would such shambolic management of top players be allowed to go on to such a degree where the players are clueless, not organised, seem to regress under wenger, no fire in their belly and are literally playing the worst football of any team i have seen at Highbury and the Emirtaes.
A team normally reflects the character and passion of their mangers and relay his ideas in the way it plays. if this is true, then this team of good individual players are a reflection of a tired, docile, uninventive, soft and arrogant manager.
I gave up the world to respect my contract “i quote Wenger”, what utter tosh his sorry arse would have been sacked long time ago anywhere else if his team continually produce inept uninspiring performances for the last four years.
Dear sue of course i want Arsenal to win games, who doesnt but not under this manager anymore. Woe betide us if Arsenal win today, he`s gonna come out and spout a load of rubbish about how we are going to win the league next season, how the defeat at Wembley was an abberration and blah blah blah.
Guys wenger is 68 and he aint changing. what we need is a fresh dynamic, passionate manager to take us forward. Win tonight no chance i hope, stuffed more like. The heat needs to be turned up till it burns.
No place for emotions in the world of football where dog eats dog. it has its part to play but not where failure on a consistent basis is concerned

  16. I don’t understand why this guy writes for this site. You see this guy like clockwork, saying the same thing. Over and over. Bringing neither a fresh take, humour or a new conversation to the mix. I really use to like this site. Maybe bring in some new contributors? It’s getting stale.

  17. This is a game of cash. Before the former board members decided to sell off their shares, they labeled Stan a money driven person who has no love for the club and game but is interested only for the sake of the money.

Those in charge later changed their tune in favour of Stan bec Stan made a deal with them. As long as the cash was coming, he would no interfere at all in the club.

As long as Wenger and those who are with him make cash Stan will remain silent.

The moment Wengers fails to get money in, He will make contact.

Is Arsenal losing money? No exactly. Would Stan fire Wenger regardles his status in the club if he would lose money? Yes.

Stan has no idea of football and therefore Wenger is around. Things are changing a bit only know bec Wenger made mistakes and those mistakes have cost Arsenal some money. Thats why the new guys are about to get busy.

So we can lose as much as we want. As long as Fans fill the stadium and continue being the tools they are and have always been. Things will never change.

Fans are at faul here. They should watch the germans how a fanbase should act. Wiser fan base. Clubs gets more carefull with their actions. Its not rocket science.

  18. Wenger is just one of many pillars who make this Arsenal be miserable. He is the main one but yet him being gone will not garantuee success.

  19. I think the arrival of Sven and Raul are promising and a one step closer to the ultimate target that is a new manager with players with heart and soul. As I always said offload Wilshere, Ramsey, Elneny, Bellerin, Welbeck because none of them can lead us to be champions. So replace them with Jean Michael Seri, Max Meyer, Thomas Lemar, Fabinho and Nebil Fekir. Being in a new defender for Per and goalkeeper for Ospina. Jardim or Enrique can bring back the glorious days and trophies to Emirates. Also don’t sack Wenger promote him to the board without any power and let him enjoy the winning days and trophies with his beloved club.

      1. “How can Wenger join the board of directors yet have no powers?

For one Wenger isn’t on the board. The board consists of Gazidis,Keswick,Friar,Harris,Kroenke and Kroenke’s son. Secondly even if Wenger had a stake in the club how much power did Usmanov have? Kroenke has the largest percentage of the club’s ownership. I’d say that the power ultimately lies with him which is partly why wenger has been managing the club for so long. If Wenger left on his own accord you would still have Kroenke. The problem needs to be cut at the root not the drooping branch. Even when Stan departs from this world he would probably have groomed his son to take over where he left off. Our best hope is to get a better manager who has better tactics and is able to motivate the squad but I still feel Arsenal will struggle to get that quality manager and be contenders until the attitudes of the board change.

        1. We actually have a guy called Friar, jeesh. Robbing hood and his bandits of merry men.

    1. you hit a nail on coffin mate, those new players just mentioned are also my dream signings we been end up with mediocrity like Wilshire, Ramsey they will play one match and five out

  20. Konstantin, you’re more deluded than Wenger if you believe that Arsenal loosing will result in Wenger being sacked. Dude, you’re wishing for Arsenal to lose for nothing. Win or lose Wenger will still be at the club. No fan should ever want their club to lose.

  21. Welbeck starting lol

    Cech..Bell..kosc..mustf…kols..Xhaka…ramsey…Ozil…mikh…Welbeck…Aub

  22. City look very vulnerable with no DM
    (Fernandinho) is injured.
    Kompany is a liability.
    Arsenal has it’s strongest possible
    team and is at home.
I am picking a 6-3 win to the Gunners
and a 3 year extension for Le Prof.

  23. Wenger has been trying to get players for free or avarage ones with hopes they will be world class and try to prove to everyone else is genuise

  24. Will an orange ball be used
    if it snows?
If the conditions are bad surely hoofing
the ball down field is the safest tactic?
Just shoot on site and win the second ball
    Is VAR in use tonight?

  25. If Wenger staying means K. Mitov at last stops pretending he’s an Arsenal fan, then bring it on!

  26. Wenger and his cry babies ……………doesnt have a clue to win a game ………just whinning all the time……………
