Injury boost: Arsenal defender fit to take on Watford

Arsenal make the short trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford in Saturday’s evening match-up, and we have some doubts coming into the game.

We are set to take on the Hornets without senior defenders Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Per Mertesacker, and this match will be no guaranteed win. If a guarantee is what you need you should try out Team Profit who provide Match Betting solutions.

Watford are not the team you want to be taking on without your key defensive options, with the Hertfordshire club having lost only once so far this term, scoring 11 times in their seven outings so far.

The Italian-owned side are seriously impressing this season, and will pose a tough task for our boys, despite our top form coming into the match. Arsenal have won six of their last seven in all competitions since the start of September, including a hard-fought 0-0 draw with champions Chelsea, and will be keen to continue that run.

Our lack of defensive experience could well pose as a problem however, with Calum Chambers, Rob Holding, Nacho Monreal, Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasinac and Mo Elneny our only available stars for the three central roles and left-sided wing-back role.

Kolasinac has boosted our side with his inclusion in the squad, having been forced to end his outing for Bosnia-Herzegovina in midweek with fitness issues, but ‘nothing severe’ has been officially announced and he will be available.

There has been talk that a possible switch to a back four could be implemented for Saturday’s encounter, although I believe that Arsene Wenger would see that as a negative despite his lack of senior options,

Could Kolasinac and Monreal both line-up in a back-three with either Holding or Chambers, allowing Maitland-Niles to fill in at wing-back? Will Chambers and Holding both be trusted in such a tough encounter?

According to the injury room, Per Mertesacker is fit. If so I would play Holding or Chambers, Mertesacker and Monreal as our back three.
I’m confident that we have enough going forward to get the 3 points at Watford. COYG.

One thing I don’t understand, there was no press conference yet (probably is late today) where the manager can give the squad fitness assessment. Koscielny, Chambers, Welbeck and Ozil may be very well deemed fit for the game. Not sure why Mertesacker is added to the injury list though. I see absolutely nothing on Koscielny is still assesed while Ozil and Welbeck resumed full training.
I guess we just have to wait for the press conference.

Injury report shows that we may very well be with all of them (bar Mustafi) any day now.

Holding / Mertesacker / Monreal – I don’t see any problem playing those three in the back. Or we can revert to 4-2-3-1, and have Bellerin / Mertesacker / Monreal / Kolasinac as back four.

This is exactly type of game we often slip-up in. Watford have been having a good season, and their manager is very highly rated. I hope we put in a good performance and get all 3 points.
