Is £60 Million a fair asking price for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal have supposedly slapped an asking price on Alexis Sanchez’s head, but is it realistic?

The Chilean has proven to be one of the best players in the English league this term, playing out of his skin in either a centre forward role or out on the wing, and is attracting interest from a number of clubs.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Man City, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are some of the names being linked with a possible bid for his signature, and with Alexis having so far failed to agree terms with our club over an extension, we may have to seriously consider his sale.

Arsenal are now claimed to have slapped a £60 Million asking price on his head, but I struggle to believe that we could actually fetch that amount considering he would be able to leave on a free transfer 12 months later, although he is easily worth that amount.

Arsene Wenger has said previously that the contract complications are simply financial, and due to his superstar performances, I don’t blame him for wanting a better wage, nor would any other Gunners fans.

He could easily fetch a £300,000 per week deal should he join United, City or one of these Chinese sides, and although we cant stretch our budget that far, we do need to push the boat out somewhat.

There are plenty of reports claiming Alexis looks unhappy in recent weeks, and the longer the contract negotiations fail to be sorted out, the more stressful the issue is going to become for our club as well as our fans.

If we have to sell, could we really get £60 Million for a player with only 12 months left on his contract? What would be an acceptable fee?

  1. Aguero seems to be at the fringes at City. Maybe we could exchange Sanchez for Aguero? What do you say? 😉

    1. it’s like having a car with 3 bad tires and one good tire, but you replace the good tire with another good one, leaving the bad 3 intact

  2. We will never get £60 million for him in his final year. I would say, £40 million is probably the best we could do. Might be a crazy summer, if Wenger, Ozil, and Sanchez all leave.

    1. Wenger leaving will bring us soooo much joy! We can actually be more realistically looking forward to challenging for honours.

  3. I will be soooooo pissed is Sanchez is sold. I’m not overly worried if ozil leaves or not. Heres what arsenal need to do…
1.) Get rid of wenger (give him a nice party)
2.) Bring in a top manager EARLY
3.) Give him a nice sum of money to play with
4.) Give Alexis whatever he wants, IMO he’s worth every penny.
5.) Hire a shrink to give these players some bloody bottle!

    1. No one want Sanchez to leave, but we might not have a choice.

Is better to sell him for 50M and use the money to get a replacement (which is difficult even at his price).

      1. that’s the problem, the team is full of average lazy footballers, why not replacing those ones? you know that will make Alexis even more happy coz he is the only ambitious player we have in the team. but people are already putting a price tag on his head, you don’t remember how we reached at this stage? it’s because of similar stuffs, selling the best players and hug the average ones coz they have not shown any problem like demanding for trophies

  4. The real problem is how can this club that is “so well run” with so much analytics & financial gurus allow so many players to have 18 months left on there contracts: Özil, Sanchez, Ox, Gibbs, Wilshere. That is a lot a talent that have been afforded financial power to negotiate on there terms. 2 of them could leave for a lack of ambition, recurring problems unresolved that lead to the same outcome: No major trophies.
The other 3 could leave for a new challenge, lack of playing or whatever the case is. Simply wrong.
Sanchez is worth 65m but him being in his final year at best we’re getting 45-50m.

  5. we always sell our best players, has been a norm at Arsenal, leaving behind the “yes boss” ones that don’t question a single thing as long the account gets full at the end of the week no matter if they played or not, or if they played well or not, they don’t care.. and we keep wondering why we keep finishing 4th every single season

  6. He would fit Bayern Munich nicely, but I wouldn’t be talking about it below 75 million.
Then again, I’d rather have him stay at the club and sell Ozil so we can make up for his requested huge salary .

  7. If we lose Alexis then we will only be able to replace his position at best. We won’t improve the team. because we will need two top forwards to do that.

    same thing year after year

This could have been avoided last summer and summer before that and summer before that if we had signed another Top forward and a Top DM. We got Lucas, Welbeck, Eleney who are decent but far from Alexis standard and Eleney isn’t even Coquelin standard.

You can’t win the PL with only one Top forward and just one average to decent DM

Chelsea have both Costa and Hazard. Also, fabregas is not just assists but goals too. They have a top dm too

    1. Perhaps it is time to throw Kate in there as well. He is becoming more and more a giant in midfield, not surprisingly. We don’t really have a giant like that. Patrick was our last one as far as I’m concerned.

  8. Ignoring Chelsea for one moment-

Would we really want to swap places with any other team in EPL?

Man City bought arguably best manager alive, and look at them.
I’m a big Klopp fan- but Liverpool aren’t performing. Spurs are playing well, and looking strong – but let’s not go there

So look I get it- unless we win EPL life sucks-

But let’s not pretend we have a bad team we don’t. We have lots of depth to our squad for first time. Sanchez, Giroud, Walcott, even Wellbeck can score goals

    – Actually I though Wellbeck was outstanding when he came on

We lack a little mental toughness (but still better than recent previous seasons), and perhaps a natural captain leader on the pitch now Mertesacker not getting played (that was best asset).

Even if you put Barcelona, Real Madrid, or Bayern in EPL – no guarantees they would could win EPL. This hardest league in the world, in perhaps most competitive sport in the world-

We came 2nd last season, and currently second-

So let’s get some perspective. We’re awesome, we just have room to improve, and currently one better team than us to surpass

    COYG!

    1. we are currently 4th our normal position, and as long as we have wenger we will never improve we will always struggle against the top 6 teams, get knocked out of UCL, get a buckedload of injuries and blame refs next season we rinse sun dry it and repeat

    2. in don’t you mate..youre way off..how long are we gonna compare ourselves with teams that have tested the ucl…teams that shown improvements to win..arsenal is a stagnant team…by and by

  9. In the final analysis, what matters more for our chances next season is not which players we will have, sell or buy, but who is our manager.

We all know we could buy Suarez and wold still be in 4th or worse.

We need a new manager with a new vision to really make the composition of our squad matter.

I would hate to see Sanchez go but if WEnger stays Sanchez won’t carry us to. PL title. And if we fetch 100 million from a sale of Sanchez we still won’t win the PL with Wenger in charge.

Have said that I would be surprised if Sanchez get’s sold if we were to receive more then 30 million for him. Having only one year left on his contract is a killer with respect to value.

Sign Simeone, keep Sanchez, buy Aubamayang and sell the dead wood.

  10. The one that needs selling urgently is Wenger himself and probably the board. They all are the same from where I stand.Money talks to them, not the fans and yet they are the providers of the same money.Something gotta give, somehow now!

  11. Obviously £60 million would be a fair price a couple of years ago, but not in his final year-ish.

Sanchez is a great player, but if we bemoan the clubs lack of ambition then I imagine he does too, given his competitive spirit.

Now if we had 5 or 6 players with his determination, maybe we would be true challengers, but then Wenger wouldn’t have bought them as they don’t fit his mould.

Which basically means Wenger must go so that we can build a team of talented winners..

  12. Many may say the manager this and that, which i actually agree with, but Sanchez has not been the world class player in several games recently, his attitude and demeanour has changed. The manager is to blame also, because if players are not committed to the team they should not play, ozil and sanchez

    1. Ruelando, with due respect dude and for those now giving stic to Alexis (15 EPL goals scored when played as CF and 13 assist all competitions the most in europe so far ) cannot have One bad game or two ? Are you kidding me? A guy that even if he lose the ball then make an effort to regain it unlike others? Put yourself in his place and tell me if you wouldn’t be passed being the only one showing guts? Come on. If arsenal have at least 5 players with the same commitment and guts displaying game in and game out believe me we were toppling chelski right now but we don’t. It’s frustrating to go right and looking where to pass when THEO IS MILES AWAY OR DOESNT UNDERSTAND THE BASIS OF MOVEMENT ADDED TO HIS PACE. IF the guy goes, not even Europa league to fight for. Good luck those wishing to get 50 millions for that guy. Bring someone who give us more than him? I doubt it. Look Liverpool after Suarez gone.

  13. It’s hard to know what Sanchez is worth, judging by his last few weeks performances certainly not in the region of 60 mill. Whether this is because of the other players not performing or Wenger’s tactics I don’t know but he is a world class player and although he started the season on fire has definitely gone off the boil lately.
