Is Arsenal’s Alexis really as good as Messi and Ronaldo?

Arsenal fans are certainly used to our players being a little bit overconfident, as our loyalty to Nicholas Bendtner over the years proves!

Also we had Mesut Ozil a couple of years ago saying that he was aiming to win the Balon D’Or one day, but at least he followed that up by breaking records all the following season, and now we have our other superstar, Alexis Sanchez, stating that he is up there with the best two players in the world.

This is what he was quoted as saying: “I have reached a level where I can compete with great players.

“I do not feel inferior to anybody.

“I liken [my qualities] to Messi and Ronaldo. I have the same abilities as them.”

Well he has won the Spanish Cup and La Liga with Barcelona, and an FA Cup with Arsenal, and perhaps he his highly aware that he is now the Chile captain, with whom he has beaten Messi’s Argentina team in two successive Copa America Finals, which giveshim a nice edge.

But if he really believes he is that good, then he needs to take Arsenal’s attack by the scruff of the neck and lead them to win every game this season. Bring us back the treble Alexis, and then I’ll agree you are good as those two upstarts okay?

  1. Poor old Sanchez, he is clearly showing the side- effects of to many long haul flights! ✈✈✈
The signs were there last month, when he set up Instagram for his ‘DOG’s’ ?

  2. Sanchez is nowhere near the level of Messi or Ronaldo.

He is my favorite Arsenal player because of his fighting spirit and attacking mentality. He is also head and shoulders ahead of any other Arsenal forward in terms of goal threat. Having said that he does not have the consistency of Messi or Ronaldo in terms of his abilities to influence games. For my taste, there are a few too many games where he doesn’t seem to be able to put his stamp.

From that of point of view Ozil has been more consistent in the level of his performances IMO.

  3. People say that Suarez replaced Alexis. Suarez got the CF slot, Neymar is the wide forward, so is it not he who replaced him. Suarez is no good unless he’s deployed a box player, even Messi moved aside because Messi can pick the ball up from anywhere and be a danger. Alexis has this over Suarez, he’s a danger from far out. But unlike what we all thought, Alexis is no good at biding his time in the box waiting for service. Suarez has this over Alexis. Ronaldo and Messi, maybe he does have allot in common, throughout the years though, those two were just better at executing it than everybody else. It’s great that Alexis is saying this, we need him to be supremely confident. Look at the confidence Chile have in Alexis, not one Chillean will have doubted him. We still get some fans pundits and stuff nit picking over Alexis. A player could score and assist in one game but there’ll usually be someone who’d rather pick at something the player didn’t do so well. Ozil and Alexis have looked good together lately, Alexis finding Ozil and vice versa. I think there is still another gear to go with Alexis and Ozil. I think more could be squeezed out of them. He is a winner, that mentality, we’re very fortunate to have him. If we can keep ourselves in the running towards the last bunch of games. I think Alexis could drag us over the finishing line.

  4. Messi is unique, Ronaldo is unique, Sanchez is unique.

They are all unique with their own style. Messi and Ronaldo are currently the two most successful players in recent years but Sanchez fighting spirit and attitude in and out of the pitch is commendable…

Samchez seem to be an encourager. That player that lift others. Someone that will tell you come on bro, don’t give up. You can make it.. .

    1. Hahaha ? The delusional world of Lord Bendtner! You see, That’s what happens when you let him come and train with the likes of Sanchez. ? It was probably Bendtner who put this belief into Sanchez’s peanut! ?

A player has to win at least one “Balon D’or” before making such statements! LOL ? And the fact that Barcelona sold him to us for 30 odd million, speaks volumes! ?

  5. Anybody here who understands how FFP works ?? I can’t get my head around the fact that even without any UCL football United have spent 526 mill Euros in the last 3 years. How is this even possible ??

    1. They are one of the three top earners in the world so they are technically just spending their own money. FFP was mainly put in place to stop rich owners (billionaires) injecting their own funds into teams and unfairly inflating the market.

    2. I am not sure where your figures come from and whether you have included the sale of players. The actual spend per annum on transfers is difficult to determine as often the payments are made in stages, in other words spread over several years. Manu income is between £70m and £100m more than us per annum.

The glaziers purchased manu by borrowing money and using the club as security for the loan. So there are big debts which have to be repaid and interest to be paid on the loan. I think that they must be borrowing money to make all these purchases but how this fits in with FFP I do not know. I expect we will find out in due course.

  6. It didn’t take this fella long, to get his two bobs worth in. ?

He’s not, which is why Barcelona let him go.

“I never regret my decisions,” the Chilean said, per the Mirror.
“It wasn’t easy to leave Barcelona. I fulfilled a dream when I moved there – to play in Spain and for the champions – but very few players stay in the same club all their life. To leave is normal.”

“The directors told me clubs were interested. So I think it was a good choice to go to Arsenal, the best choice. It has been a positive move and I love it at Arsenal.”

“I wanted a new project, a new experience. And with so many attacking players at Barca it was a good choice to go.”

No doubts that Sanchez is a very good player and just because he stands out even more at a club like Arsenal than he did at Barcelona! There is no way that he is on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo.

    1. @Twig
He would and could if our team was set up to play through him, as RM and Barca are for Ronaldo and Messi.

  7. it’s depends what ur “as good as Messi and Ronaldo” is.
If u see Griezmann as good as M n R cos he scored over 20goals and his club got to UCL final and he “took” France to the Eurofinal then Alexis is.
forget team success, Alexis is way better than Griezmann on the ball.
but to me I don’t think any1 is in the league of Messi and Ronaldo,Not even Suarez or Neymar
