Is Arsenal’s Oxlade-Chamberlain hinting at Liverpool move?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently being linked with the exit door this summer, and he may have just hinted at a move from Arsenal. The 23 year-old has enjoyed his best season since joining the club, impressing in a number of positions this term including at full-back, wing-back, central midfield, as well as in advanced roles.

Despite his regular outings this year, he may well still be keen on leaving the club in the close-season with the intention to play in a consistent role, and Liverpool are believed to be keen on his signature.

The Ox has only one year remaining on his contract, and unless Arsenal could agree terms over a new deal, they may be forced to consider his exit.

The England international has now revealed that he wants to play in a central role in the future, and whilst he doesn’t see that as an immediate option in North-London currently, he has always wanted to be the new Steven Gerrard.

“Playing for a team like Arsenal, it ends up being more of a right-wing job,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said.

“I get the ball from deeper and the plays into my hands more.

“At the end of the day, it’s given me minutes and I’m not one to complain.

“But, the centre-mid role… I’ve always wanted to be Steven Gerrard, so I’ve still got a hope of that!”

Does his ‘Gerrard’ comment worry you about our chances of keeping the Ox beyond the summer? Could he opt for a switch to Liverpool if we fail to guarantee him regular minutes centrally? Does the Ox deserve to be ahead of Ramsey or Xhaka?

  1. nobody leaves the kgb
    what? usmanov doesnt run arsenal??

alex dont leave me, perry loves london. please my beige fave dont leave

    1. U should be they beat us twice this season
      And will spend big

  2. If Liverpool guarantees him the central role, we can all safely wave bye bye to the lad.

  3. I think Ox knows himself that he didn’t deserve a CM spot when Diaby Rosicky Arteta Fabregas etc were there, too inconsistent, but now I think he should get a chance to play alongside either of Xhaka Cazorla. But he is a must for wing back, even over Bellerin, Oxlade understands his responsibilities better and goes in harder.

About that new formation, when we come up against a good team that goes 442 or 4411, I think we need to switch straight back to our old formation as that is the one that made 442 almost obsolete. Spu is the only game we lost with the new formation and they ruined us out wide with four wide players, and had two forwards up against three CBs. The 442 seems to be a good formation versus a 343, and the 451 we know is good against a 442. I hope Arsene becomes flexible/interchangeable during games.

  4. After Pool’s reaction to Suarez bid, I say no business. Just to have a piss at them Arsenal should demand for either Countinho or Mane.

Now the story is different for Theo, let them offer us 35mil and they can take him. Will through in Sanogo as a sweetener too.

  5. arsenal can never be a top club not with these delusional fan all of a sudden Ramsey is a start now we worried about the ox leaving this season is the best so far what did he do how many goals an assist compare to misplace pass there are many players out better than him who can improve our team thomas lemar for example

  6. He only mentioned Gerrard as he was standing next to him at the time of doing the interview.

  7. Ox is a very useful player to have
He is still only 23 and improving
    I’d prefer to keep him

I still think we could use another talented CM who can cover Cazorla in back and Ozil in CAM like Isco though

  8. lets be honest here, right now liverpool would be a move up for the ox. he will be guaranteed european football .

    1. Just look at the article posted after this with his comments on next season. Surely someone whos leaving wouldnt say those words?

  9. I remember not long after Ox first joined Arsenal he did an interview where he was asked which position he prefers, and I recall him saying “Central Midfield”.

With Xhaka, Cazorla, Ramsey, Elneny, Le Coq, and possibly a new signing all more likely to play in Central Midfield than him, this article definitely has a point. And the Ox looks likely to mostly end-up playing right-wing-back with the new formation, which maybe he’s not too happy about?

Personally I would hate to see him leave. I think Bellerin is perfect for the right-wing-back role, and The Ox could be used more in Central Midfield. He could definitely be better than Ramsey, but would have to show maturity and consistency to nail-down a place.

    1. Bellerin has been getting kind of lazy without any real direct competition. I say let them battle it out, Ox is also perfectly suited to RWB/RM. He prefers his current position then playing on the wing he said cause its more of a midfield role.

  10. “Arsene Wenger will attend an Arsenal board meeting designed to resolve his future on Tuesday having already agreed the terms of a new two-year contract at the club as long ago as November, sources have told ESPN FC”

Done Guys! Let’s stop bickering over what we felt was going to happen and hope that we Alexis. Ozil stays, couple more world class players are signed and we can challenge for the title next season.

  11. At this moment in time, if I could take Liverpool or Arsenal, I would definitely say the Arsenal squad are better. The only place in which Liverpool are definitely better than us are definitely the owner – they do run a self sustaining model, but the owner doesn’t put his own business ventures ahead of the club, and possibly Klopp is more tactically aware than AW, although they are very different, and it is difficult to know how Klopp would react to what is going on at Arsenal.

  12. Never fulfilled his promise..let him go but best of luck alex displacing one of henderson, llanna, courtinho, can, wiljneldum, paulinho or lucas if he stays…out of the frying pan methinks matey boy
