Is Arsenal’s Petr Cech the best Number 1 in England?

Mark Schwarzer hailed Petr Cech as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League after his display yesterday, but is he the best?

The Czech international has been incredible since making the switch to the Emirates from Chelsea 14 months ago, and was highly impressive prior to his switch also.

Mark Schwarzer battled and lost in the race to play regular football with the Blues previously, but feels no shame in hailing his former team-mate as the best in the country.

He said: ‘The one goalkeeper you expected to have a quieter game was the busier of the two,’ Schwarzer said.

‘For me Petr Cech is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League and probably has been for the last few years.’

David De Gea is the most highly rated goalkeeper in the Premier League, but Cech’s ability and importance cannot be underplayed, highlighted by the records he holds, as well as trophies he has won.

Hugo Lloris is among those top shot-stoppers at present, having the best record in the league this season, but does have the protection of a well-drilled back-line helping him out.

Schwarzer moved to state that Cech had kept Arsenal in the game this week, much to the surprise of many who had written of Boro’s chances.

Schwarzer added: ‘I’ve had the privilege to work with him, I class him as a good mate and he’s an incredible professional.

‘He stands big and he really kept Arsenal in the match which was quite strange considering nobody gave Middlesbrough a chance.’

  1. He was the best for some few seasons ago, as mentioned and probably he still is, but David De gea stand a chance too.

  2. I think DeGea is a bit overrated, last season he was voted in the Team of the season but Cech had better stats all round than him. . from cleansheets to saves to saves-per game, punches name it.
same thing this season: DeGea howler cost United against Stoke but a week later he makes a save to deny Coutinho and some fans, start saying he is d best in world.

  3. Yes and I think he is still one of the Top 5 GKs in the world

Honourable mentions to De Gea, Bravo, Lloris (gritting my teeth), Courtois and Hart
Valdes played extremely well yesterday in addition to Cech
    Cech saved our behinds yesterday
Also Ospina is an excellent GK and arguably the best backup GK in the league

But again I genuinely believe Cech is currently the best GK in the PL

    1. Either De Gea or Cech. It’s ridiculous the amount of times De Gea has bailed out United these past 2-3 seasons.
