Is Arsenal’s ‘Wenger situation’ being handled badly, dishonestly, or what?

Bad or dishonest management at Arsenal? by AndersS

It is, of course, very difficult to find out, what actually goes on inside the management of Arsenal. By management I mean not only Arsene Wenger, but also the executive management and the board and owners.

But it seems fair to sum up Arsene Wenger’s situation to 2 different possibilities. Either his future with the club is still unresolved, or, as some suggest, he has in fact already agreed a new contract to stay on as manager.

If the latter is the case, we are witnessing a manager, who is blatantly lying to fans and to the press, which I would find not only very difficult to believe, but also totally unacceptable. As a fan I would feel cheated, and I also think it is a disgrace for the club with a manager lying openly and it would also mean, that several other persons inside the club are “part of the plot”. In itself a big problem, if our club is managed by persons with so little integrity. So I really hope, this is not the case.

But if the situation is, that Arsene Wenger’s future still isn’t decided, then it is just as bad, only in a different way. It is unbelievable, that we should have a management, which have allowed the club to end in a situation, where the uncertainty of the manager’s future and several top player’s futures are allowed to go on and on. The manager himself would clearly be thinking more on his own interests than those of the club, if he actually sees it as a possibility, that he can walk out in a month’s time, leaving the club without a manager. And the rest of the management certainly aren’t doing their job, if they have allowed this to be the situation.

So either way, it seems like we have a really bad management or a dishonest management. I wish neither were the case.

But if there should be another scenario, which would actually redeem not only Arsene Wenger but also the management, it should be something like this. They are actually working on a new plan, which could include a new manager, but as he is still in another job, it can’t be revealed.

This, I would accept, and I would readily apologize for the points above.

Unfortunately, I have my doubts.

  1. For me, this situation is a combination of a manager who lies to the fans as well as a mismanaged situation by the board and club.

Many experienced football folks including those who respect Wenger and the club (like Keown) have come out and said that the uncertainty surrounding Wenger’s future is hurting the performances. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that this is true. Even so, the club and Wenger allow this situation to become farcical. Do you remember Wenger saying we would soon find out about his future in late February/March? Well, we still don’t know.

The way I see it, thanks to an owner who does not care, a chief executive who doesn’t understand and a manager who doesn’t want to face the facts, we are in a ridiculously incompetent situation.

I am firmly in the camp that believes Wenger has nothing more to offer this club but I also recognized that if he were to stay that the removal of the uncertainty about his future by him announcing the signing of a new contract, would have benefited the club on the pitch this season.

Arsenal is losing the battle everywhere from manager to board to the owner we are left in the dust by our competitors.

    1. He was waiting to clinch the last top 4 spot in order to announce he is staying and avoid a fan backlash..that is why the announcement date has kept on getting delayed week in week out. The way it looks though he will announce he has signed at the end of the season..he is already going about transfers and making some ominous quotes about the top 4 qualification not being relevant to his tenure. Finally, even if he does stay against our wishes, who will protest? Last time I checked it was only 3 guys who turned up for the protest at the training ground.

      1. “Finally, even if he does stay against our wishes, who will protest? Last time I checked it was only 3 guys who turned up for the protest at the training ground.”

        Fact.

    2. There’s a saying that ”he who fails to plan, plans to fail.” This is true of Arsenal. How can a man whose ideal of modern football is faulty be leading a club as big as Arsenal? The board and Wenger are damned clueless.

      1. On the contrary my fellow Gooner, it’s we the fans who are clueless, simply because the information we seek is classified as Top secret, (need to know basis) and the powers that be don’t deem the fans as being worthy. It’s as simple as that so don’t stress or worry they know exactly what they are doing.

    1. Is that a ‘Wengers’ valuation of soon? ?? if so.. That could be anything up to another decade or two. ?

  2. The whole managerial system is faulty: nevertheless, one with strong influence has the answer to the whole team failure. It’s useless to blame the whole system for no one would stand to correct the root cause that’s why the manager has it all to bear. It I in the Human nature to always fetch for scapegoats; wenger has been blame

  3. Like you say, either way it’s no good.
Like you I ‘choose’ to believe it’s taking this long as Wenger is in negotiations with another club as are Arsenal with an incoming manager so nothing at this point can be revealed.

I don’t think Kroenke would be that bothered about announcing the continuation of Wengers reign as the money is still rolling in (ticket fans won’t just rip up their investment).
If Wenger was to get a new contract you can bet it would have a clause in it that stated if the fan disenchantment reached fever pitch his position would be no longer tenable. Maybe that’s what Wenger is taking so long to sign it at present if in fact there was a contract on the table???

The mind boggles. Basically everything is possible (especially with our owner and board) and we are completely in the dark until something happens.

Oh to be a gooner! Pfff

  4. accept your fate. arsenal belong to arsene for now and though you do not like it and him, he would have loved to concede to what you want but he has nowhere going. no place like home.

  5. Performance being effected cuz of managerial situation is Bull! Everyone is worried about something,.. these are paid professions they are not doing charity work here!
Well Im worried abt Job, Living expenses, and chaos around the world; no one gives an F. I don’t want to be worried abt my Club on top of all that!!!

And Wenger has to go for creating most of the chaos,.. ! Divided fan base, fights, PERFORMANCES, and constant failures.

  6. The problem at Arsenal is Wenger has too much power at Arsenal. He and Kroenke doesn’t care about winning trophies but making profit. We also don’t have DOF who would push manager to win trophies because Wenger doesnt like DOF and has zero ambition. I’m certain he gets big bonus from the profit we make plus the 8 M salary he gets. We always allow top player to through last year on their contract because our management team is pathetic. I hope we see new manager and new DOF who have ambition of winning trophies.

  7. Hey, what’s up with you Sheeple? ? ? don’t act like you already don’t know the answers. ?? man, them aluminium chemtrails must be effecting you guys good ?? looks like you all got a severe case of Goldfish syndrome, a whooping two seconds of memory banks and then it’s back to zero again……………………………. ? …………… ?………….. ? …….. ??Oh, Fork my.. I forgot what I was going to say ?? God damn it

  8. As much as it would be nice to believe that a new manager may be hired, and the negotiations are not concluded so they can’t announce it yet, that seems unlikely to me.

The only problem from the manager, owner, and board’s perspective is that we are likely to miss-out on top-four. If it’s only by one or two points, then things will carry on as before, until we miss the Wenger trophy by a significant margin.

“Badly handled” and “Dishonest” sounds about right.
