Is Cazorla’s injury the reason Arsenal can’t beat Big Teams? Really?

Despite spending 100m in the summer, Arsenal’s record against the top Premiership teams have been just as bad as usual if not worse, especially away from home where we haven’t beaten any of the Top 7 teams.

For some strange reason, Arsene thinks that if Cazorla had been able to play the results against the big teams would have been better. He said today on Arsenal.com: “Away from home, we’ve faded in big games. We didn’t take enough points and that’s very difficult to explain because it was the reverse last season. We made many teams against all the big teams away from home.

“It was a turning point at Everton and Manchester City where we lost two games on the trot just after a Champions League game. It took our confidence away from us a little bit. Away from home, maybe even more than home, Cazorla was a very important player for us. He contributed a lot last season but this season we lost him very early.”

Could it really just be because we didn’t have Cazorla? He says that Santi contributed a lot last season, but the fact is that Santi only started 15 games in the whole campaign and was in the treatment for the rest of the season. if the Spaniard was really that important why didn’t Wenger plan for the same thing to happen this year? He is 32 years old after all and was unlikely to suddenly reverse to the form he was in a few years ago.

And the thing that really worries me is that Wenger has already given Cazorla another years contract, so do we actually have room in the squad for someone to replace him, because the chances of him making a big impact on next season is looking very unlikely…

Is he that important to Arsenal’s success?

  1. A match fit Cazorla is important to Arsenal, because he is one of the few players in Arsenal that can possess and pass the ball well. Most of the other players cannot possess the ball more than two touches and always panicking when get pressurized by the opponents. Whereas Cazorla and players like him are always trying to possess the ball longer to wait for a better chance and doing this consistently, due to their technical abilities.

If there are more players like him, especially in the defensive line, Arsenal can build the attack from the back and play more fluid passing game, like the other top European teams do. Without players like him, Arsenal usually have to play direct ball to the tall target man, either from goal kicks or from crosses.

He is getting older and plagued with injuries, so Arsenal should buy new players with technical abilities like him.

  2. I can’t believe that there seems so many fans who are willing to turn a blind eye to such an obvious massive deficiency in our play without Caz. Personally don’t think many of Spurs’ players are technically inferior to ours. Unfair to beat Wenger with that stick. Their whole backline and goalkeeper are miles ahead of ours. Mostly because they are all at their peak and been at spurs for a number of years. For example, it used to be a case of Kos over Vertonghen but Kos is past it and Vert is reaching his peak. Same with Walker and Bellerin, Monreal and Rose. Mustafi will never be as good as Toby A. What a dogshit defender he is. Xhaka can’t tackle and has never been able to, so technically he doesn’t belong on a football pitch. The people who prefer someone like Xhaka to Wanyama are part of the problem. Wanyama was a beast in the NLD. His role is break up play and start counters at rapid pace. He was involved in their key chances (including the second goal, as well as starting the move which Eriksen missed the tap in and the pass to Kane which he mis-controlled). Dembele doesn’t score anywhere near enough but aside from Cazorla, there really isn’t anyone at his technical level in Arsenal’s midfield. Ozil is probably technically superior to Eriksen as is Alexis to Alli. Up front, Kane is miles ahead of Giroud. Should Wenger being better than he is? Yes, but spurs are a strong team and if they weren’t a rival, getting beat their 2-0 would have been no disgrace. They’ve beaten Chelsea and City by the same score.

It does make laugh to see the hypocrisy of some fans where they criticize players and the manager for lacking fight and passion yet are so snobbish as to prefer someone like Xhaka to Wanyama. For what purpose? The guy spreads the occasional long pass but did he make as many key passes as Wanyama on Sunday? Has he scored more goals than him this year? Does he protect the back four in ANY WAY? They’ve even given this guy some kind of hipster term, ‘regista’. Makes me cringe. What does that even mean? Someone whom instructions fail to register? Seriously. Conte has two holding players with limited technical ability. Their job is to break up play and give it quickly to players who are then free to do what they do best. If you can’t tackle and have the positional awareness of a drunken fool, you have no place in a holding role. His passing is not even that great. He’s like an overpaid Tom Huddlestone. As I said, Wenger is to blame for constructing a poorly balanced squad but to say it’s technically better than Tottenham’s is rubbish.

  3. YAH IDO THINK CAZORA WAS MORE THAN ACREATIVE MIDFIELDER CHECK THE LAST MATCHES HE PLAYED AT THE BEGINING OF THE SEASON HE PLAYS TOTAL FOOTBAL FIRST OF TIC TAC WHEN HE GATES ABALL HE THINKS HE ATTACKS WHICH IS DIFFERENT WITH THE NEW SIGNINGS LIKE XAKA HE DOES LONG PASSES BIG TYM PASSES IT BACK ARSENAL THIS TYM AROUND LOST BALL POSSISION THEY HAD AFANTASTIC COMBO WITH COUQERI COZ HES COULD NOT CRSS THE MIDDLE LINE WHICH COULD GIVE CAZORA SPACE TO THINK AND MOVE FOWARD HOW IWISH HE GETS YOUNG AGAIN WE MISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SANTI EN WISH HIM AQUICK RECOVERY WE NEED HIM IN THE COMMING SEASONS

    1. I WILL SEND YOU A NEW KEYBOARD IF YOUR CAPS LOCK IS BROKEN.

      GOT ANY ADDRESS?

  4. ANOTHER THINK WHEN IS FIT NO DIFFERANCE BTWN PLAYERS COZ HE USES THEM THE SAME WAY WITH OUT OZIL FIT CAZORA WAS THE BEST ACTUALLY HE SHOULD BE ALEGEND COZ HE WAS NOT LOOKING FOR MONEY HE HAD THE TEAM ON HIS HEART

  5. Wenger is the reason we can’t beat big team (or most teams in 2017)

    1. You’re the reason for our players being under heavy pressure that’s not necessary from moaning fans like you that suppose to support the team through thick and thin.

  6. Ozil going missing along with this injury has been a big blow to our creativity. Ozil is the no10, without Cazorla we really needed him to step up. He did last season for a good spell but this season he’s been really poor on the creative side. Someone might give stats to try prove otherwise but I know what my eyes tell me. They could say chances created but if a player gets a shot off with five bodies and a GK in front of him that would read chance created. The team as a whole has had too many players putting in bad performances over the course of season.

The reason why we usually don’t beat the big teams, has to be tactics, I’d say that’s the no1 reason. Then injuries never seem to help us, I know some don’t like blaming injuries but look at Che, Tott, Lei and almost every winner of the league, they all have that in common. But who’s to blame for the injuries, whether they are injury prone players, whippets, over worked players, or playing on bad training surfaces, it is all beside the point. I’d say these two reasons cost us most of our suffering allot of the time. A third reason would be having too many players that don’t dig deep and never give it their all.

  7. Cazorla is old and injury prone, when fit and in form he can be one of our best players but if not then there isn’t much point in him being at the club. Weather or not he would have helped improve results against the top teams is not worth worrying about because simply put, he didn’t.

  8. why are people pretending Cazorla hasn’t been with us for years already. And still no UCL, still no EPL title, not even close. Cazorla is a great player, but it just doesn’t matter what players you have when you have such an incompetent manager.
